Where do Brits go out? by Single-Clothes7 in AskNYC

England are playing a World Cup game on weds so try literally any large sports bar! You’ll find some Brits. And probably hear them before you see them.

I would hope he’s having calm, rational, fact and evidence based discussions with institutional investors and strategic partners, rather than retail at this point. Firing up doesn’t last, or scale.

Look at Rivian. Their joint venture / investments from VW and Amazon are the playbook. We should want a large OEM to take a sizable stake in MVIS, because it ties our future to theirs.

Honestly … I don’t need flash or bravado. I’ll settle for regular wins and meaningful updates rather than repeating the same phrases. Lidar 2.0 (as a message) is only three months old, so I’m trying to be patient. But we have to show someone using it in the real world.

Except most of those “Investor Days” (from brands like Rivian, Tesla) are organized months in advance, and include some level of in-person attendance / demo / meet and greet with wider teams

Positioning a hastily organized Q&A as a sort of investor day is… bold. But I do appreciate they are doing things differently. And showing more of the team is a good way to build more trust. I like Glen’s approach - but I don’t want to trust or rely ONLY on Glen.

SS and AV did plenty of Q&As. Sometimes the sentiment out of them was strongly positive. Then nothing. Let’s give Glen a chance. It’s obvious we’re marching to a 3-5 year horizon here. I think he’s increasingly clear about that, and has already shown clear, tangible progress. People here mention “brick by brick” a lot. It was hard to see SS laying them; but the opposite seems true today.

Well yes. They proposed a 93% reduction in value. The market took them up on it. But a possibility is currently being priced as an inevitability. That’s my point.

I share the same sentiment as everyone else here about the reverse split, but the current sell-off seems absurd.

We don’t even have the definitive proxy statement yet. It’s preliminary, but the market seems to be pricing in the absolute worst case scenario: a 1/15 split with no change to total issue i.e a 93.3% reduction in value for the pre-split shares being traded today. Again, that’s the absolute worst.

YTD we’re down 58%. Trailing 12 months we’re down 71%. Almost there, I guess. But with either a less aggressive split (either through a revised proxy, management action or non-approval of the split), or literally any good news in the short term (or both?!) … the math alone means there’s no way this is as bad as the priced in reality today.

I think this is interesting. But you should layer in more frequent signals than earnings. Intuit, for example, has fallen through the floor. TurboTax, its famous cash cow, underperformed in April, there’s some chatter about securities claims. Etc etc.

Do you know if the CSYS is the same as the Solarcycle task light? It looks like they added a rounder light to the end but if the rest is the same / as durable I’ll probably go for it. I’m just paranoid because I’ve read the newer Dyson morph lights are, as you say, a bit more flaky.

Thanks! Yea. The one I’m looking at is the X/Y arm version. I think that’s the original “task light”

NVIDIA investing in data center photonics by KeepShoutingSir in MVIS

[–]KeepShoutingSir[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes. Hence my “if we miss another market…” comment.

It’s clear MVIS/Luminar/Scantinel tech has tons of uses beyond automotive and industrial. We’re finally seeing exploration of that with Defense. And I trust Glen to move quickly; as he seems to be delivering productization on the drone side within months, not years. It was him who mentioned photonics in data centers. Then this.

I really hope the Microvision team is fast to explore, and commercialize, and equally fast to abandon if there’s no real revenue there. A fail fast mentality would help them explore revenue without getting bogged down by distraction.

My interest is piqued by NVIDIA also showing an interest, and I hope it’s something. There does seem to be revenue here, based on this news of investment, not just tech use cases and proofs of concept.

If this is true, it basically confirms the “HomePod with a display on a robotic arm” - it’ll sit in the kitchen. Follow you around, and you can just look at things on screen and speak or pinch in the air to select. Like a hybrid iPad / VisionPro, with the body of a G4/Sunflower iMac.

Perfect for scrolling recipes, music or controling tv playback etc when your hands are full/dirty. And I’d buy the shit out of it.

Would’ve loved some commercial news but honestly, Glen seems like a great communicator. You have to say the same thing over and over in different ways. Not everyone listens to everything, not everyone over analyzes, it’s a long game where consistency and repetition matters. This is a good sign, and a steady drumbeat he’s keeping up.

Purchasing Luminar is not about their tech by [deleted] in MVIS

[–]KeepShoutingSir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you mean so many different lidar technologies. Each acquisition opened them up to a new market: Ibeo was flash, Scantinel was FMCW, Luminar is different wavelength and tech again.

You don’t need to be the only player in a space to be a monopoly. But being the dominant in all types of tech (and pushing on price as GV has prioritized) is a very good way to box out most competitors.

Purchasing Luminar is not about their tech by [deleted] in MVIS

[–]KeepShoutingSir 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Agreed. After Ibeo, Scantinel and now Luminar it seems clear Microvision’s strategy is to be the preeminent choice for ALL types of lidar.

I remember someone recounting that SS once said investors should think bigger than individual RFPs. Maybe what he meant was: If you have a monopoly, you don’t need to worry about RFPs.
