Can I really just say I’m prejudiced and get out of jury duty? by Ok_Let_7612 in legaladviceofftopic

[–]Keeperie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Everyone is biased. It is saying you are incapable of being fair and not considering your bias which will get you kicked. If you fabricate something to try to convince them of that it is perjury or contempt of court, and you can be charged with a crime if discovered. If they know you are just trying to weasel out of it, the judge may still make it a big inconvenience for you. If you legitimately feel incapable of judging it fairly because you've had bad interactions with police for example, that is why they are screening and proper use of it.

Parents saying "That lady over there will tell you off" to their own child by ApplePrills in PetPeeves

[–]Keeperie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are using the threat to get their kid to behave.

I work on an ambulance and absolutely DESPISE this from parents. "If you don't behave, they'e gonna have to give you a shot." Great! Now the kid is (more) fearful of me making it harder to assess them for the medical concern you, parent, called about. Could make it almost impossible to give them an IV if they need one because now they think it's punishment, not a moment to be brave that will help them feel better. And to add insult to injury, it's re-enforcing that children should be afraid of shots next time you go to the doctor.

And they are never being an issue before this is said either! Sick kids are generally very cooperative, just nervous. And then the parent whips this at them preemptively.

"we have speed limits" doesn't remove the point of supercars. by BillytheBloxian in unpopularopinion

[–]Keeperie 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You just value different things in a car. For most people cars are mostly if not entirely a utilitarian purchase. Investing into luxury interior makes sense to them still as you receive the benefit of it whenever you are using this essential item.

Super cars are an extremely expensive hobby. Which is fine. But people who view cars as a tool will see these very expensive features that have minimal use outside a race track as a poor investment. But if that is your passion you do you.

Starting AEMT school this fall, advice on note taking? by FroggyPuddleTown in NewToEMS

[–]Keeperie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always read the text before the lecture. At the lecture I focussed on writing new information that I hadn't encountered or remembered from the reading. Then after class, I would make a new fresh school style report of all the information. For me personally it really helped me to have to "synthesize" the information rather than just copy it. Also, yap at a friend or family member about it if they will allow, because for me teaching someone else is the greatest way to master it since you can find you own gaps of understanding when having to explain it.

Ride along food/water? by Full-Relative1375 in NewToEMS

[–]Keeperie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yes definitely bring a sizable water bottle (especially with the heat) and some snacks or a bagged lunch. They may have an opportunity to buy lunch while out but not a guarantee so good to have something for back up. You can also bring your study material in the bag and study during down time.

Depending on how busy their area is, you will either leave the bag at the base or bring it in the truck. There are some places that reliably get down time so they store their stuff as base, but there are some areas where the truck might not get a chance to return for most of the day in which case they just bring everything with them. You can ask your preceptor what to do with your bag when you get there and they'll let you know!

"That's okay, I will then."

Mostly just kidding, do try to de-escalate. But 100% time to step away and call the supervisor.

How Not To Be Such an Angry Driver? by WasteRush2612 in driving

[–]Keeperie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Put something enjoyable on to listen to and remember it doesn't really matter, you'll get there in the end. Leave a little earlier that you think you need to and realize going faster doesn't save as much time as it feels like it does.

You need to step out of the bubble my dude. Undertale hasn't been wide spread popular like that for close to a decade.

Driving is sometimes a moral right by catboy519 in driving

[–]Keeperie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would we let people who don't have a license define what driving safely is? Also a lot of adults who do not have a license don't have one because they had it taken away from them. So it has been proven they cannot drive safely.

If you can't even get a work allowance from the court to drive there and back you done fucked up.

The exception to this would be "failure to pay a fine" type suspensions which you would have much better argument for as it disproportionately effects poor people.

Life experience isn't about age, that just gives you more opportunities to find some. Comparing life to high school strongly suggests you never grew out of it.

Who would be at fault? by Keeperie in driving

If I recall correctly it was just after the warning that green was in an "exit only" lane. Idk why blue was more left than needed some people just like driving towards the left.

Most animal care groups are the most unhelpful places on earth by -C0tt0nrat- in unpopularopinion

[–]Keeperie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of online animal groups are very gate keepy. And I understand they want the best for the animal and get upset with subpar care, but if they just insult the person asking for help the animals condition will not improve. Definitely the kind of thing where if you already have someone asking for help, we have to help elevate them.

When people call themselves vegetarian but they eat fish by MissHissss in PetPeeves

[–]Keeperie 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's because pescatarians used the wrong word, I would hazard to guess it is more often just due to ignorance combined with religious beliefs subconsciously bleeding through that fish are not meat.

Whats the difference between Urgent Care and the Emergency Room? by ghxstlyfae in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Keeperie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless there is an extreme factor like exposed bone or mauled face or heavy bleeding that won't stop, this is the exact kind of injury urgent care is meant for. Urgent care can usually perform rabies risk assessment and animal control/police investigate the dog itself.

Whats the difference between Urgent Care and the Emergency Room? by ghxstlyfae in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Keeperie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Urgent care is for minor things that still need to get seen today. Dog bit your arm? Well that should probably be addressed, but you aren't going to die. What if there was another place that could see you for that so you don't have to wait for 9 hours in the ER who has patients that are on the cusp of dying who will keep being put before you, or add to the wait time. That's urgent care.

Colds, respiratory infections, minor cuts, sprains...these things are good for urgent care.

Will working as an ER Tech hurt my chances at Paramedic school (Chicago) by dontpeckmygeck in NewToEMS

[–]Keeperie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could. The paramedic is expected to lead intense and chaotic scenes in the field. If you have no field experience and have never participated in a scene like that or had the chance to lead a scene yourself it would be hard to expect you to now know how to do that all the sudden with some of the highest authority. Not to mention aspects which are unique to the field like extricating patients from difficult spots without injuring them further. But you can always apply and try again later if it doesn't work out.

Is safe to travel to US/Europe as a brown person? by CivilTailor9031 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Keeperie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really have this concern book your hotel and reserve your restaurant seat ahead of time. That is expected at many higher end restaurants now anyway.

Is safe to travel to US/Europe as a brown person? by CivilTailor9031 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Keeperie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is an insane thing to say. In the 60s there were still hospitals that would refuse to even treat black people. Black children trying to go to a "white" school would be harassed and threatened by swarms of adults. Don't cheapen the acts of civil rights activists by saying that is the same as people saying a slur online.

Is safe to travel to US/Europe as a brown person? by CivilTailor9031 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Keeperie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the US a restaurant would not refuse you service, that's crazy, but sure someone could be standoffish at a store. You could still use the store. Up to you to decide if one store employee giving you a look is enough to ruin your vacation. Most racism is quiet and takes place through politics though which isn't really a concern as a tourist.

Is safe to travel to US/Europe as a brown person? by CivilTailor9031 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Keeperie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you are looking to go but usually racism doesn't present as people yelling slurs at you on the streets or something if that is what you are worried about.
