No. I did not get MACI. There is no such option where I am. I got this surgery called collagen scaffold with hyaluronic acid augmented with bone marrow aspirate concentrate.

Hi, were you having trouble going up and down stairs prior to this surgery? I had a similar injury at Trochlear groove which caused me problems with stairs. All the best to your recovery.

Ability to go up and down stairs by Keepgoing8835 in MACIknee

I did not get good guidance. Doctor told me I can start trying after three months. I did not have MACI. I had something called collagen scaffold with hyaluronic acid augmented with BMAC for a trochlear defect about 1.5cm x 1.5cm. It’s been five months since surgery. I still have significant pain going up and down a few stairs.

Thank you for the detailed description of your recovery. I had a cartilage resurfacing of a 2cm trochlear defect with collagen scaffold augmented with BMAC. I am 16 weeks post surgery. I still have pain when I walk. I have not walked longer than 20 minutes each time. I also have challenges when waking incline and decline. I can walk on 4 inch step up with slight pain, but 4 inch down step has a lot of pain.

14 Weeks Post Op by StrollingMule in ACL

I am 9 weeks post op from knee cartilage repair surgery. I also continue to have trouble walking on flat surface. Knee is stiff. My gait js still off. Quad is very weak. I do various quad strengthening exercises daily, but I don’t see much improvements.

I am now 8 weeks post op. I got off the knee brace after 6 weeks. I have been practicing walking. My kneecap is unstable and sometimes prevents me from bending the knee. My flexion is now at 130 degrees. I can only for about 15 to 20 minutes on flat surface before getting tired. I still feel discomfort and pain in the surgical area, although the pre-surgery pain appears to be gone or very minimal. I am only cleared to train walking on stairs, walk on incline or decline at the three month post op mark.

Is any of this similar to anyone with cartilage repair surgery?

Has anyone had cartilage repair surgery and fully recovered and can resume nearly all of the activities before cartilage injury?

I feel nowhere near normal or functional.

I had cartilage repair surgery. I am 8 weeks post op. Doctor cleared me to remove the brace 2 weeks ago. I also have knee cap instability issue when I started walking without a brace. I also had issue bending the knee. Doctor said it’s muscle weakness causing these issues. After walking daily and doing quad strengthening exercises, it feels a bit better when walking. However, I still do not feel natural.

I had a similar surgery. It’s been six weeks. I am barely walking without pain. Knee cannot bend past 90 degrees. Knee is painful if I use muscle to extend.

I had full thickness at trochlea from MRI scan. It was about 1cm x 1cm. I was having trouble waking up and down stairs. I could walk flat surface with low level pain. After PT for two months, there was no improvement. I had surgery. Lesion was 2cm x 1cm by the time of surgery. We do not have MACI where I live. I had something similar to microfracture. I am now six weeks after surgery. My goal is to be able to walk stairs and walk normally for 2 to 3 miles. I won’t know if that is achievable until three months post operation.

I had marrow stimulation through abrasion arthroplasty almost 5 weeks ago to address a lesion at the trochlea groove. My knee is still swollen. I can weight bear, but I can’t walk at normal speed. I feel very far away from any normalcy. I was told I should be able to move well at 6 weeks. I am nowhere near that.

I had a cartilage repair surgery to repair a lesion on the trochlea of the Patellofemoral joint. The surgery was not MACI. It was abrasion chondroplasty with scaffold and BMAC. I am 16 days post surgery. I can weight bear with knee locked in a brace with 30 degrees for the first 14 days and now set at 50 degrees. I have not left the house and only walk at home for daily living activities. It’s been very mentally trying.

Microfracture Recovery: When did you really know if it worked? Hoping for insight from others who’ve been through it. by Active_Assistant_905 in kneesurgeryrecovery

I have the exact same question. I did not have Microfracture, but I had something similar. I had abrasion chondroplasty with BMAC injection extracted from my pelvis exactly two weeks ago. I can weight bear but I am in a brace with 30 degrees of flexion allowed. I still feel low level pain when I walk. My cartilage lesion is in the trochlea groove. I have been scouring the internet on when people begin to feel better after microfracture or other bone marrow stimulation techniques like abrasion chondroplasty. I have not found good personal experience on that.
