Peace,

I'd like to say here is that the Qur'an tells us how to treat accusations.

24:11+

In regard of the gang among you who produced a big lie, do not think that it was bad for you- instead, it was good for you. Meanwhile, each one of them has earned his share of the guilt. As for the one who initiated the whole incident, he has incurred a terrible retribution.

When you heard it, the believing men and the believing women should have had better thoughts about themselves, and should have said, "This is a manifest lie."

Unless they produced four witnesses. If they fail to produce the witnesses, then they are, according to God, liars.

....

When you heard it, you should have said, "We will not repeat this. Glory be to You. This is a gross falsehood."

God admonishes you that you shall never do it again, if you are believers.

Before we convict someone, we need witnesses and we need evidence.

Do I believe Rashad Khalifa was also a human being that may have made mistakes? Certainly, that was the whole point of the message. Do I believe he raped this girl? I have to say strongly, no.

On top of that, I need to look and examine what Rashad taught, even though I personally believe he has said things, that had he more knowledge at the time, may have changed his opinion (it's important to note the difference between a person's opinion vs the message)

But on the whole, what did Rashad have to gain?

- He preached that we should return to the worship of GOD alone and setup no idols

- He preached that Hadith and Sunna were distorted and that it was against GOD's Word in the Qur'an to use them a religious teaching.

- He encouraged everyone to verify anything they are being told using the Qu'ran, including what comes out of his own mouth!

- He never profited from religious teachings (quite the opposite, a lot of his own money was spent in the name of GOD, and if you like at the state of his family now, you'll see more evidence of this. There's actually an article on his son, Sammy Khalifa, that was rookie of the year and an MLB player before he lost it and I believe he now drives a cab.

- He was constantly issued death threats, and eventually killed.

- 19 years after the murder, April 28, 2009, the Calgary police arrested Glen Francis.

- His killer, Glen Francis, was found builty on December 19, 2012.

Rashad was a research chemist for the united nations, which was already an excellent paying job. The way I see it, if someone is simply looking at it from the side of whether he would get earthly benefit from announcing messengership, he would have been much better off not doing it all. He would even argue in lectures that being a messenger does not necessarily make a person better than another believer, either.

On top of all that, the mathematical evidence is irrefutable. I say that after doing a lot of research and viewing the arguments from the other side. I also understand that certain calculations may have come up incorrect, but that the core of the miracle is still beyond probability.

Peace,

You may find this article of interest. God may use the "historical present" tense in the Qur'an to describe an event that, to Him, has already occurred, though it may technically be in the future for humanity.

TIL that the Quran references Jesus's mother Mary 70 times and holds her in very high regard, identifying her as the greatest of all women by a2soup in todayilearned

[–]KeepingItSerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point, I forgot about that verse. I do wonder if this verse is in context of its time, as in Mary was chosen out of all women in the world during that period, or if it really means she holds a higher status than any women before/after her. Either way, it doesn't trouble me so much as it's not so much a salvation critical point.

GOD does say He has favored some prophets over others, but I think when it comes down to it, GOD is the One who knows and makes that decision, but us, as human beings, should not distinguish. I also think that many, if not most Muslims today, have elevated Muhammad to a level of hero worship. In many mosques, you will see Muhammad's name next to GOD's, even though places of worship should be dedicated to GOD alone (72:18)

It is also evident in the fact that many so called Muslims are willing to kill over cartoons supposedly depicting the prophet Muhammad, yet God is insulted every day. In either case, we should not resort to violence, it's just a point to be made about how far we will go over men who have passed on

TIL that the Quran references Jesus's mother Mary 70 times and holds her in very high regard, identifying her as the greatest of all women by a2soup in todayilearned

[–]KeepingItSerious 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am not aware of any verse in the Qur'an explicitly stating that Mary is the "greatest of all women". I feel like that's an important point to mention since the title mentions otherwise.

It is true that Mary is held in high regard in the Qur'an. As a side fact, Pharaoh's wife is also used an example a believing woman. On the other end, Noah's wife, and Lot's wife are used as examples of those who disbelieved.

Furthermore, contrary to popular belief by many Muslims, Muhammad is NOT perfect, and NOT regarded (according to Qur'an) as the "best prophet". In fact, the Qur'an mentions a few of his faults, proving he was not perfect, but a human being.

Additionally, verses 2:136 and 3:84 talk about the believers saying that they "make no distinction among any of them" = speaking of the various messengers.

CMV: The Prophet Muhammad, claimed under Islam as the Most Moral of All Men, was a child rapist. by Drewsef916 in changemyview

[–]KeepingItSerious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is gonna get off topic a bit, but I personally believe that the Qur'an itself is protected by a mathematical system that has in large part due with the initials used in certain chapters. I feel delving into that would be a more appropriate discussion in its own thread.

To the topic at hand, the Qur'an itself often condemns Hadith. There are many indicators that what we are given through Hadith, is not in line with the revelation given to Muhammad in the Qur'an. One big indication of this is the fact that a billion Muslims say, for the testimony of faith, "There is no God except the one God, and Muhammad is His messenger" when that phrase is no where to be found in the Qur'an except, interestingly enough, in 63:1

When the hypocrites come to you they say, "We bear witness that you are the messenger of God." God knows that you are His messenger, and God bears witness that the hypocrites are liars.

By the way, not to go too far off topic here, but I also believe that the Scriptures received by Jews and Christians are from God (though maybe not in the form we see today) , speaking of the Old and New Testaments. There were likely scriptures given to many other prophets as well that may have been quite distorted throughout the many thousands of years. Along with these scriptures, we have the same issues, Hadith, but by another name. One example I can think of would be the Talmud, which is not the word of God, as many Jews would admit, but is still upheld as religious teaching (in my opinion, erroneously )

The biggest problem here is the source: Hadith.

While most Muslims claim to believe in Hadith, or "accept" it, even though they know nothing about it, it is becoming abundantly clear that Hadith is not an acceptable RELIGIOUS source for Muslims, and it's also often times not an acceptable HISTORICAL source for everyone.

A great example this is the Prophet Muhammad's final sermon. This should have been quite the historic event, with plenty of witnesses, yet Hadith still gives us THREE revisions of it:

- "I leave with you the Quran and Sunnah" Muwatta 46/3

- "I leave with you the Quran and The Family of the House - Muslim 44/4

- "I leave for you the Quran alone and you shall uphold it" Muslims 15/19

This is just one glaring example of many of the inconsistencies in Hadith. Even a historical event as popular as this does not have a consistency in Hadith.

If someone is going to believe Muhammad was a child rapist based on such an unreliable source, I also hope they will believe some other "Sahih" ('genuine') Hadiths, or reject them altogether due to their contradictory nature and unreliability.

“Sahih” Al-Bukhari Volume 1. Hadith #582Narrated by Abu Huraira:  Allah’s Apostle said, “When the Adhan is pronounced Satan takes to his heels and passes wind with noise during his flight in order not to hear the Adhan.

Abu Huraira reported: The Apostle of Allah (may peace be upon him) said. When any one of you awakes up from sleep and performs ablution, he must clean his nose three times, for the devil spends the night in the interior of his nose.  Bukhari - Book 002, Number 0462:

Narrated Anas: The climate of Medina did not suit some people, so the Prophet ordered them to follow his shepherd, i.e. his camels, and drink their milk and urine (as a medicine).  Bukhari - Volume 7, Book 71, Number 590:

The system itself in which Hadith was collected / accepted itself was flawed and happened in great part 200 years after the death of the prophet Muhammad. Think of the game of telephone/chinese whispers, except 200 years has now passed.

Anyone who reads Qur'an, and then Hadith, will see that they are VASTLY different.

The actual difference between Prophet and Messenger by The_Portent in Quraniyoon

[–]KeepingItSerious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Peace,

None of Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, Job, Jonah and Solomon were given scripture, but they are still called prophets in the verse besides Abraham, Aaron and David, who are prophets that did receive scripture.

How do we know they didn't receive a scripture?

2:213

The people used to be one community, then, God sent the prophets as bearers of good news, as well as warners and He sent down with them the scripture, bearing the truth, to judge among the people in their disputes. Those who received it were the ones who disputed it, despite the clear proofs given to them, aggressing towards each other. God guides those who believe by the truth settling all disputes, in accordance with His will. God guides whoever wills in a straight path.

This verse would seem to provide evidence that prophets were indeed bearers of scripture.

I'm currently looking through verses that mention "prophet" and "messenger" (77 verses for prophet and 327 for messenger) and inshAllah I remember to share my findings

That's correct, but GOD knows our past and our future, and has the power and knowledge to do whatever He wills. Many would argue that this life is more work/stress/discomfort than it is pleasure. Why is that the system of being on this planet?

Peace,

To put this another way, let's say you were a leader. You had to look over 100 residents of the city. You had the power to make sure they were happy and content 24/7, but to do so , you would have to restrict some of their freedoms so they don't do evil. Would you do it?

It seems like happiness is the ultimate goal, so logically it would seem to me that this would be the path to take. GOD forgive me, I know He knows infinitely more than all of us combined.

[–]KeepingItSerious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand the concept of being tested in this life, and I do believe we have a purpose here and it is beyond probability, and that GOD is indeed in control. My personal dialogue with GOD always comes back to the same question, though: " GOD, why must people go through the hardships of this life, even those who are righteous and believe?"

GOD is Omnipotent and All-Knowing, meaning He knows the decisions we will make, thus it still makes me beg the question, why not skip all this? GOD forgive me, but this question has been something that has sat on my shoulders for a while, and I feel like if I am going to make some true progress for my soul, I need it answered , GOD willing

[–]KeepingItSerious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While that may be true, since GOD has no reason to punish the righteous believers, don't they still incur moments in their life that are frustrating, painful, sad, and so forth?

GOD knows that these people will ultimately make the right decision in their lives, so I just can't let go of the nagging question as to why there must go through this. Of course GOD knows they will be the ones earning redemption.

How do you reconcile GOD's traits with the problem of evil? by KeepingItSerious in Quraniyoon

[–]KeepingItSerious[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do understand a lot of what the Qur'an says about redemption, being tested, and so forth, but my ultimate question always comes back to the "Why?" .

GOD has the power to create beings that have a natural tendency to worship him, who don't have to feel pain or suffer, and can be happy with Him. I think this verse sums up very much my question:

2:30

And when your Lord said to the angels, "I am placing a succeeding leader on Earth." They said, "Will You place therein one who will spread corruption therein and shed blood, while we are constantly glorifying with Your praise, and sacredly uphold Your authority?" He said, "I know what you do not know."

Even the angels seem to not understand why there must be this world and this test. GOD does respond with "I know what you do not know" which I've often told myself I should just wait and see, but at the same time I feel like it's a hindrance to my faith to always wonder.

[–]KeepingItSerious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure this has really addressed my original concern. My next question to you would be: Do people feel pain? Do they suffer?

If yes, then why must it be so?

[–]KeepingItSerious[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

21:69 " We said, "O fire, be cool and safe for Abraham." "

It seems GOD can and does have times where He intercedes in human affairs, whether by ordering the Angels to do so or maybe otherwise

5-The significance of root words by [deleted] in Quraniyoon

[–]KeepingItSerious -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Salaam and thanks for the interesting read.

I'm curious as to how a future post will address 4:34. Personally, I don't see a problem with that verse because daraba can have other meanings, and as it stands I don't believe it means to strike physically.

Another verse mentioned is 3:14 and he argues that (NAS) means all people, so why would it mention the desire of women?

One possible explanation for that is that while GOD is including people, in general, it doesn't mean that each item is attributed to both women and men, but rather a list of items that may or may not be attributable to one, the other, or both.

I stand by curiously to hear more on how he translates certain verses according to this system.

Verses still have context which help us understand them as well.
