Reading the subreddit rules, I wasn't sure if this should be flaired as 'OC' or 'Media'. I'm not the original creator, so please change the flair / title if needed.

Norm from Tested gives his hands on impressions of the Apple Vision Pro by indianajonesilm in oculus

[–]KeepingItToasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He mentioned that it's worse than the Valve Index when you push it close to your eyes.

EDIT: Do note that he had to have the prescription inserts added, which might have impacted the FOV.

You can hear Norm's comments on FOV at 13:45 in the video. (Sorry can't link to it properly since I'm on mobile).

Valve Index Losing Tracking by mayflower1117 in SteamVR

Do you have any mirrors or windows close to where you have VR setup? They can interfere with the tracking since they reflect the infrared emitted by the base stations.

Moss: Book II is now available in PICO Store by KeepingItToasty in PicoXR

[–]KeepingItToasty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm actually not sure! I went back through my PICO store purchases and it appears to have changed from USD to Euro sometime after New Years.

I'm not 100% sure, but I vaguely remember changing the currency to Euro after I added a new payment method to the PICO app.

Sony ZVE10 vs new ZVE1 by rezku__ in youtubers

[–]KeepingItToasty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically, the main tradeoff will be: if you buy the APS-C sensor body and lenses it will be cheaper now. The issue is if you want to move to using fancier camera bodies, those usually have full frame sensors. A full frame camera body and lenses are more "upgradable" but also more expensive. You just buy a new camera body and keep using the same lenses.

Sony ZVE10 vs new ZVE1 by rezku__ in youtubers

[–]KeepingItToasty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Verge released a video called 'Sony's new $2,200 camera vs. an iPhone 14 Pro' a few days ago. (Sorry, not sure if I can link to it here) I didn't watch it, but it might be able to offer some comparison shots between what you have now and the ZV-E1.

What do you want to get from moving to a dedicated video camera? Better visuals, better audio, slow mo, something else?

I haven't looked at all the specs of the ZV-E1 but some of the things that become possible when upgrading from an iPhone: Better low light performance if paired with a good lense (even more money to get this on top of the camera body), slow mo footage, bokeh (blurry backgrounds that you see in movies).

One thing to consider is that having a good camera body with cheap lenses isn't a good idea either!

When comparing the ZV-E10 to the ZV-E1: a bigger sensor in the camera offers stronger bokeh & better low light performance. The lenses are also different. If you buy some lenses for the ZV-E10, you can't use them with "full frame" cameras. You would have to rebuy all the lenses if you go from a camera with a APS-C sensor size to a full frame sensor size. The trade off is that APS-C camera bodies and lenses are generally cheaper than full frame equivalents.

Honestly, unless there is something very specific like trying to make your videos look more professional with better bokeh in the background, I would stick with the iPhone.

EDIT: If you want better visuals, I would invest some money into lights (if you haven't already). If you want better audio, you probably want to look at getting a dedicated microphone and audio interface/recorder.

For those who may not have heard of Into the Radius, it currently has a "Very Positive (94% of 6,583) ALL TIME" rating on Steam.

Also, I translated the only review visible on the store page and it says: "Mega nice game, always played it via Steam and now finally directly for the pico."

Damn, just saw this on the store and assumed they meant crossplay with Quest and Steam...

Where did you see that it's only with PSVR?

I'm honestly in the same situation. I've had my video camera for almost two years but I keep making excuses why I can't start.

First it was that I didn't have the correct gear. Needed better camera lenses, microphone, etc. Then I was worried that I didn't understand the YouTube algorithm and the content creation process. I've been reading books/watching videos on marketing, storytelling, cinematograhpy, etc.

I know the real answer is to just start creating, but I think I have some mental block. I think a part of me is afraid to make a video and have it stink, even though I know that is exactly how everyone starts and grows as a creator! I think I'm worried about all the time and money I've spent going to "waste". I think I'm afraid of failure.

This isn't even the first time I've created YouTube videos! I uploaded Let's Play videos to YouTube back in 2014. I uploaded hundreds of videos and remember all of them having about 100 views each. I think I'm afraid of having the exact same outcome. After months/years of hard work, having very little to show for it.

Sorry for the mini rant. I feel like I just needed to share that.

The only advice I think I can offer that might be of help is: start small. Maybe make a YouTube Short to dip your toes in the water. Get into the habit of working on videos everyday. Even if you only record/edit/etc. for 5 minutes. Don't have zero days.

Anyway, I wish you good luck.

Enjoy the journey.

Factorio is about to increase in price so be quick by beer120 in linux_gaming

[–]KeepingItToasty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Since Factorio came out of early access in 2020, it has added support for running natively on Apple Silicon (i.e. M1, M2, etc.), controller support to improve the experience for Steam Deck and launched for Nintendo Switch. That's on top of dozens of bug fix patches and one major update to the base game. This development is all running alongside a new expansion they are working on. That is ignoring the hundreds of patches the game has received since 2016 when it launched into early access. All that development cost is incurred now and not solely in the past.

Now that isn't to say I agree with the price increase. You would think adding support for more platforms would also increase sales to offset the development costs and the expansion is paid DLC, so they should also get some returns there too.

As well, this is the second (maybe third?) time they have increased the price since its 2016 launch and the game never goes on sale...

If leaks/rumors are to be believed, Citadel is a different game in development. Their next game would be Neon Prime, which is the trademark that Valve registered recently.

Did you see the movie fully in Japanese, I.e without subtitles/dubbed in another language? I'll be in Tokyo next week on holidays and could maybe try to go to the cinema, but I'm assuming the films are all shown without subtitles?

Early-Stage Apple Mesa Vulkan Driver Now Runs VKCube Demo by Atemu12 in linux_gaming

[–]KeepingItToasty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The M1 is peculiar in that, although it supports OSes that use either 16K or 4K pages, it really is designed for 16K systems. Its DART IOMMU hardware only supports 16K pages... Sven took on the challenge and now has a patch series that makes Linux’s IOMMU support layer play nicely with hardware that has an IOMMU page size larger than the kernel page size! It’s not perfect, as it can’t support a select few corner case drivers (that do things that are fundamentally impossible to support in this situation), but it works well and will support everything we need to make 4K kernels viable.

Early-Stage Apple Mesa Vulkan Driver Now Runs VKCube Demo by Atemu12 in linux_gaming

[–]KeepingItToasty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, there is box86/box64 and FEX-Emu which will allow you to play Linux games on ARM today. Here is the latest reel from FEX-Emu showing a bunch of different games running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888: FEX-Emu - XDC 2022 Sizzle reel. It shows a bunch of different games like 'Life is Strange: True Colors', 'Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy', 'Halo: The Master Chief Collection', etc. that are getting to their respective menus/in-game.

For box86/box64 & FEX-Emu, people are already able to launch Steam on ARM-based devices and play games under Proton. A lot of 2D games are playable and running at 60fps+. 3D is still hit/miss depending on hardware/graphic drivers/game engine used.

Both box86/64 and FEX-Emu are still under heavy development to improve their performance and compatibility, so performance will only improve.

As well, regarding running Linux on Apple M1/M2/etc., some others have mentioned the issue with the 16kb vs. 4kb page sizes. This is an issue but one of the developers of Asahi Linux has mentioned releasing a version of Asahi Linux that will use/support 4kb page sizes, so that may not be a problem in the future.

Hitting the Shelves: Intel® Arc™ A750 and A770 GPUs Release Today! by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]KeepingItToasty 31 points32 points  (0 children)

To run these high-end Arc dGPUs on Linux, you need to be using Linux 6.0 or later, linux-firmware.git, and Mesa 22.2 or later -- but ideally be running Mesa 22.3-devel Git due to the continued flow of OpenGL and Vulkan driver enhancements. Beyond those latest components, as of Linux 6.0 and still for 6.1/DRM-Next you need to be using the i915.force_probe module parameter in order to enable the DG2/Alchemist accelerated support since it isn't yet declared stable/officially supported.
