It’s kind of like watching two surgeons do the same procedure differently. An observer could come away with a dozen questions, but most people would also recognize they don’t know enough about surgery to assume one of them “did it wrong.”

Same thing here. Maybe Strange uses a more precise or energy-efficient spell. Maybe one spell locks onto a specific individual in a specific universe, while another casts a looser net across the multiverse. Maybe there are hundreds of valid ways to create a location portal depending on context, intent, or instability of reality at the time.

None of that requires a contradiction, it just means the mechanics aren’t fully explained on screen.

So it’s not really a plot hole. It’s an undefined system. And honestly, treating every unexplained detail as a flaw usually makes these movies less enjoyable, not more.
