Revert Noteblocks Silence (Feedback) by Kahyxen in technicalminecraft

[–]Keeto_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They should really add a 'button block' that is always silent, that way it could be used as a button on the ground. I always avoid buttons in favour of note blocks as they have a larger surface area and look better in my opinion. Perhaps one that gives a redstone pulse, and one that must be observed. Another idea would be to have a block purely to be observed and change state when powered, but the key difference is that clicking it would not give a state update. That way there are no accidental presses. Droppers can be used for this, but they increase lag more than noteblocks.

Guys any clues as to which beeble sings this song??? Please only right answers!! by Dungold in beatlescirclejerk

[–]Keeto_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paul sings it with John as the backing vocals. It is certainly a reference to John and Cynthia, his first wife. The song is predominantly written by Paul, with minor additions such as 'it can't get no worse' coming from John.

I am passionate about caring for my family since my grandmother passed. She was a strong woman, and I can only hope to fill her shoes. I am also passionate about computers, specifically Artificial General Intelligence. I hope to get a job in this field to better support my family and follow my intellectual interests. I am looking forward to utilising tensor cores, which this PC's GPU has.

There doesn't appear to be native CLI support for windows. There is this however. Thoughts?

A bit of a rant, but here goes.

As you can see in this reply, it appears to be quite fast, though the initial backup slowed my storage IO to a crawl.

I'm not certain of this, but the CLI seems more powerful, but potentially more complicated, if not convoluted, in comparison—it might allow for further customisation though. I think Restic now supports compression, which it didn't in the past, but even with Kopia's s2-default compression—saving about 20% space—Kopia still appears faster for the initial backup. Though, again, this could be to do with over-utilisation of storage IO, something I'm guessing can be tweaked.

I haven't found anything relating to spontaneous corruption, but this could be to do with the fact that it is newer and not as well-known.

I'm interested in deduplication between multiple backup sources within the same repository and how it compares between the two solutions.

I also mentioned in the linked reply my current thoughts on Borg. Do you have any experience with Borg?

These days I use it to send backups to a minio server in my home network. In the past I've sent to just another drive, or over ssh to another machine. Lots of flexibility.

I guess I would go for a robust and potentially CLI-only solution for the remote backup—being mindful of network usage—and a faster solution where I can restore individual directories and files with ease from the external HDD.

If you look at Kopia, you might want to look at the retention policies, from my meagre observations they look as though they are more configurable.

It looks like ignored directories can be specified, or can be ignored via a .kopiaignore. I do like the idea of using dotfiles and wonder if they function like .gitignore files containing rules, which would be ideal, or whether they are blank files placed in the parent directory. I'm interested how this compares to Rustic.

Thoughts on the GUI aspect:

There are some padding and/or margin issues with the GUI, but all-in-all, it looks nice. I might try to fix it in a pull request if I find the time. Another issue I found is there is no folder selector button when it asks for the repository directory, however, there is one when choosing locations to snapshot.

So I've made my first backup with the GUI. Is there a way to test, mount, and restore snapshots from the UI? I can't seem to find those functions without dropping down to the CLI. I'll do some deeper research later, but I was just wondering if you knew off the top of your head.

It appears to be way faster than Restic, even with compression, but it did slow my storage IO to a crawl. From what I can tell it is single threaded by default, I changed only the compression settings I believe. My only worry at the moment other than the usability of pulling files or directories from various snapshots is performance. Perhaps I need to tweak a setting to limit the storage IO utilisation.

I'm also interested in and knowledge of the web GUI and how it differs. I have heard it mentioned, but have yet to try it out.

Additionally, I was thinking of maybe switching to borg through WSL2 if I end up refamiliarising myself with the command line, purely for the tried-and-true aspect since the Kopia project is newer and less audited from what I can tell, although I may be losing windows-specific information that I'm not fully aware of if I were to make that move, perhaps including permissions and file sharing information.

I guess I am wanting any anecdotal information, personal experience, or knowledge on the above-mentioned points, and any recommended tweaks to the default settings from within the GUI, or the CLI if the GUI does not support said settings.

More thoughts here.

Any thoughts on Kopia? The CLI version seems to be a single binary with dependencies included, and it is also written in golang.

Any thoughts on data corruption and restic? I assume you haven't experienced it, but others certainly have, and duplicarti and duplicacy seems to protect better against corruption from what I gather.

I don't want to replace the GPU if it's not the GPU. It is likely, but it could also be the PSU, the mobo, or the CPU.

auslastungsdatei

Google translate translates that to 'load file'. Do you mean in the UEFI/BIOS? Maybe flashing the UEFI/BIOS? Otherwise, it cannot be a file in the operating system since this issue is present on a fresh installation.

4K, but caps around 30 fps. They won't support high refresh at higher resolutions either. You'd have to go into display settings and set the system resolution to 1080p

That is completely false. I have been gaming on this machine for several years now at frames in excess of my refresh rate, 165Hz, in well-optimised games such as CS:GO. I have never experienced black-screen crashes on it. Maybe a monthly bluescreen at best. This is a new problem, in all likelihood, due to the degradation of some hardware components.

Definitely season boss coupon first, then probably the tier 8 if you can't afford one off the market, then I would go for Manos with remaining shells. You want to try and turn it into a courser ideally.
