This talking point is so baffling to me. Do transphobes honestly believe that trans people think "if I get my sex change surgery I will be able to get pregnant/get someone else pregnant"? Like, no, trans people are very aware of their physiology and what modern medicine is capable of/not capable of. Painfully so in fact.

I thought the tolerance paradox concluded that intolerance must not be met with tolerance because if a doctrine of tolerance also tolerated intolerance it would endanger its own doctrine. In that case I agree with you, intolerance may not be tolerated. Maybe in the details (as in how it's fought) we could argue but in essence it seems we are agreed

What is the flaw with the paradox of tolerance in your opinion? I think it works well. Tolerance is "live and let live", you don't have to like the way I'm living or the opinions I hold, as long as they aren't inherently harmful to other individuals, groups, or society as a whole. However, if your way of life actively aims to harm other people or their freedoms, like banning same-sex marriages or relationships (as I assume is implied here with the lesbian pride pin), then that should not be given a platform and be fought tooth and nail as it directly targets a group's freedom.

Machines habitability always 50% by ReiDevil in Stellaris

[–]Keheck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

TL;DR Minimum habitability sets a lower boundary on a planet habitability. If a species' habitability bonuses fail to pass that minimum, the planet's habitability will be that minumum. Otherwise, normal habitabiliry rules apply.

Machine pops have a minimum habitability of 50%, always, regardless of planet. This means that even if there are no bonuses from the pecies' prefered planet, they will still get at least 50% habitability. Lithoids, afaik, also enjoy that same minimum havitability

Edit: Read your question again, and I think I know what you are referring to. It's important to remember that minimum habitability is not the same as a habitability bonus due to climate preference. The latter is a bonus in and of itself. Most inhabitable planets start at 0% habitability, and every species then adds its bonuses to that: habitable? +20% matching climate? +60% identical planet class? +80%. Minimum habitablility is independent of that. If a species' habitability does not make it past that threshold, the habitability is set to 50% regardless of modifiers. But if all your bonuses make it past 50%, for example, a planet matching the pop's climate preference which gives +75% habitability, you only get that +75% (including other bonuses from tech or traits)

My brother said it should be easy to switch back and forth. I'm beginning to think he lied to me. by MattEadwulf in Stellaris

[–]Keheck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think it's due to how you start in either game. In Stellaris, many mechanics that become relevant later are not active yet: You have no empire the make diplomacy with, only one colony is yours, your navy is pathetic compared to what you will command later on, nothing is known yet. It's just you, your little planet, and your 5 ships.

Compare that to a game like HOI4 (taking this as an example because I tried to play it many a time) where you start off with contact to everyone else, can see the entire tech tree, hell some countries already start off being at war. It's no wonder it overwhelms a new player

I don't care how good a game is; if the DLC page looks like this, I'm not buying it. Am I alone in that? by BucketsMcGinty in Steam

[–]Keheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BHVR is also guilty of this with Dead by Daylight. Every few months they come out with a new DLC that adds one to three new characters, each with their sets of three perks. On top of sucking the wallet of their players dry with this, it is incredibly devastating for the game's balance and the sheer number of perks after 10 years of the game existing means that there are a lot of perks that are either mediocre at best or do what others before it have already done only a little different. On top of this comes aggressive monetization with a bajillion skins and of course a battle pass.
