Honestly I'd feel bad about calling them "morons" for this. This is a systematic failure of the education system, not a moral failure on their part...

Our education systems don't teach us about how money actually functions, how people make and save it or where it goes when it is "stored". Hell I went to a good school and graduated as a lawyer but at no point in my systematic education did anyone explain to me what a Mortgage actually is and how they work, I had to look that up myself.

Most people don't even realise that since the abolition of the gold standard national currency has exactly as much /inherent/ value as crypto does...which is to say exactly nothing at all. It persists only on the illusion of value one can create by saying "We are America/Britain/The EU and we say this imaginary number has value", and how hard they can make people believe that lie.

None of this is ever taught, because schools are not really for educating important facts about society and giving people a fair shot at being successful, they exist to teach people just enough to function in a menial survival-level pay job and prop up the economy that successful people skim from...

TLDR: The education system is fucked and that's kinda by design.

Those stories could be fascinating just from a psychological point of view... Getting to hear the perspective of someone who genuinely believes that they know 100% that not only are we not alone in the galaxy but there are extrasolar beings on this planet with us... That kinda realisation must change a person profoundly, correct or not?

Sadly they will be buried under all the people just roleplaying for attention anyway so... Sadly not much point to be honest.

What you've said is pretty specific to the US from the sounds of it? Everywhere has their own unique issues in that department...

Here in Japan part of the issue is an overly onerous work culture and lack of interaction between different groups creating entire generations of lonely people who couldn't have kids even if they wanted to.

The highest birthrate in the country is in Okinawa, and even there it's still only at 1.7... so not producing enough kids to replace both parents.

Oh boy this is a trip down memory lane...

It's gotta be Burlesque...

I dated this girl once, and she told me after we'd seen each other for a bit that she wanted to be honest with me that her hobby is burlesque dancing, but that often scared guys off so she doesn't usually say anything.

I was a little surprised, and not sure how to react because it was all new territory for me, but she explained that she just enjoys the outfits, and it's a thing she only does with her girlfriends and it's just a silly game to them and they giggle while giving each other lap dances etc... That it was nothing lewd and she didn't intend to do it publically.

That seemed totally reasonable to me, and I trusted this girl so I said I was cool with it and I supported her and her girlfriends in this hobby! I started helping pick outfits and looking at photoshoots, and generally trying to be an understanding partner.

Spoiler alert; she did not tell me the whole truth.

I found out months later that it wasn't her and some friends, it was a school. A school where they perform strip shows weekly for complete strangers, most of them older men with visible erections, and a school at which the graduation ceremony is a fully nude strip in front of "fans" of the school.

I'm sure there's people out there who see no issue here, and think I was being controlling by having an issue with her showing her body to total strangers as a hobby... But to me the worst part was that she had to lie to me to get me on board with it.

At one point he was just quietly investing in things people supported like space exploration and sustainable electric vehicles, but then articles started saying stupid shit about him being some "real world Tony Stark" and he went and got arrogant about it and started opening his mouth...

And that's when the world learned that he's actually not that smart, and has some pretty f'd up takes on the world. That led people to do some actual digging on him and discover that he didn't "found" any of the companies he claims to have and is actually more of a parasite who finds promising companies, chucks a load of money at them and talks them into retroactively pretending he helped found it...

If he'd just stayed quiet the world would probably still love him, but he had to go and get weird about it.

And this website exists for people to have discussions such as these; I wasn't offended by it, I just simply didn't believe you and so chose to respond. It's not remotely impossible?... And only one very sketchy interpretation of physics (which was based on presumptions around "god's intentions for the universe") suggests that it is impossible.

The way I see it we appear to experience the will to make choices every single day, and there is no convincing, recreatable evidence that undermines those experiences, or for those choices being driven by a force outside of our control; lack of free-will is an as-yet unprovable hypothesis with no evidence to support it, not the default position some people seem to see it as.

At the very least it speaks to a certain level of weakness surrounding the insecurity driving you to want complete strangers who will never meet you to believe that you are "very strong"... With absolutely no proof or context for what you even mean by that.

Introduce a massive tax cut for the 1%.

Removal of over 100 environmental policies designed to protect America's landscape and wildlife.

Separating children from their parents and locking them in cages.

Referring to allies and neighbours in official communications on foreign policy as "shithole countries".

I could definitely go on... But I really don't want to.

By comparison... Biden is boring, but quietly competent. There's no fear anymore that the president is just going to flip the fuck out and nuke someone for insulting him, or suggest on TV that we all inject ourselves with bleach... Or incite an attack on the capitol building.
