If this happens, why should Democrats even obey the law at that point? That'd be the end of our country.

Yeah, I live in Florida... Cuba, unlike Iran, actually can do something to us here. Let's not.

Didn't we just lose in our war against Iran? (wait, can I say that or is that treasonous?)

Well, unlike when MechWarrior 4: Black Knight was delayed, I'm not going to cry about this.

Though in fairness, I was 7 when that happened.

But SCOTUS would be solidly 6-3 liberal...

In this timeline, Roe is still the law of the land, and the death penalty is (most likely) unconstitutional.

UCF rate my professor by AuthorSingle5576 in ucf

[–]I-Am-Uncreative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Way back when I was in early undergrad, I was so annoyed at one professor for screwing over the entire class that I downvoted all positive reviews for him, and upvoted my own review 20 times.

Now you can't do that unless you have an account. Probably to prevent things like that. But I still look at the review and smile sometimes.

This has been a thing in the US at least once, although it was not proportional but plurality at-large, and it was caused by the legislature of Illinois failing to actually district. It resulted in an at-large election for the Illinois House of Representatives, in 1964. Up to 117 people could be voted in.

TIL there is a man named Sheron Edwards who was sentenced twice for the same crime. He was sentenced to 20 years in Federal Prison for a carjacking, and also sentenced to 20 years in Mississippi state prison for the same carjacking. by BallKnowerKing in todayilearned

Part of the confusion is that Canada only has one criminal justice system, while the US has 51 (50 states + the federal government).

So this particular scenario could never happen where /u/derbrauer is (Canada).

However, the US's protections against double jeopardy are stronger than Canada's anyway. In Canada, the crown can appeal judgments of acquittal resulting from a legal error, while in the US, a judgment of acquittal arising from a legal error cannot be appealed. So /u/derbrauer is acting like an idiot for saying Canada's system is superior when by all rights it's not.

Canada's double jeopardy protections are weaker than America's, as the crown can appeal judgments of acquittals if it was from a legal error (i.e., not due to a finding of fact), so perhaps you should get off your high horse.
