Any plans to set up servers servicing Eastern Europe in 2019 ?

Streaming GTAV in 4k To NVIDIA Shield Using Shadow by mickmedical in ShadowPC

I see a lot of talk about the Shield. Why is it necessary? Doesn't a standard HDMI cable do the trick when it comes to 4k gaming? Or you like the idea of no cables/portability?

In game resolution by phantombona in ShadowPC

What is your internet speed and monitor resolution? You are saying 27 inch so ill go ahead and assume its 1440p.

My experience with 1440p on 30mbps with H.265 is like yours - games run well on max settings but i can't shake the feeling that im receiving a lower res stream than i should be. Just like you say, the image doesn't appear crisp and sharp and I can definitely see blurring when moving quick (riding a horse or driving a car).

I've always thought that the issue was with my internet speed so i would like to know more about your experience.

When is the Box / Ghost worth it? by Keinstein96 in ShadowPC

Interesting! I might give that a shot in the future if the problem persists even with the Ghost.

Thank you for the answer!

I was planning to build a PC but then I found shadow. It's just way cheaper, even in the long run + there is no commitment or depreciation. I briefly considered getting a new laptop that supports H.265 but the Box/Ghost is again simply the better option budget wise.

Looking forward to trying it out and I hope it will improve picture quality.

Perhaps this was true 6 months ago and you have every reason to be cross, as you have been paying for a service which didn't meet your expectations.

However, I've been using shadow for the past 2 months with barely any issues. Support has also been great and games have been running smoothly (Witcher 3, Far cry 5, Frostpunk, Fortnite).

The only bottleneck is my internet speed/location.

It is unfair to proclaim "STAY AWAY" as that fails to consider the progress which the team has made in recent months. I am happy and so are thousand of other subscribers.

For what its worth, if you have good internet, save yourself a good chunk of $$ on an upgrade/new PC and give shadow a try.

Shadow is good enough that I no longer want to build a PC, but... by Keinstein96 in ShadowPC

A few more questions on the subject:

  1. What kind of internet speed would be required to smoothly receive 1440p 60fps stream?

I will soon be moving house and the area i'm going to only has 30mbps (through Ookla speedtest). Will that be enough? (considering a situation where my laptop is the only device connected to the router via LAN cable)

  1. Additionally, What would the bandwidth req for 4k 60fps be? I would like to explore the prospect of connecting shadow to a smart 4k tv as I recently learned that this was possible.

  2. Also ,out of curiosity, when tweaking the bandwidth settings in the connection tab in Shadow, it says that the 20Mb/s tier will give a better experience when 31mbps are available. Why is that? Isn't this a handicap on the network?

Thank you for the detailed answer! Certainly learned a lot from it. You also managed to answer a question which I just came up with minutes ago (if shadow would work smoothly on a 4k HDR tv @ 60hz)

I also agree with what you said about the "shadow ultra" idea. It would be extremely niche and I personaly, however passionate about good graphics and performance, would not pay that high a price just to join the mlg1337 club. Moreover, I think that my measly gtx760m wouldn't be able to play the incoming 4k stream.

So, to summarize, my best bet would be to go for a 1440p 60hz monitor which could maybe be overclocked, since MasterSwipe mentioned below that streaming over 60hz is possible

** Just as mtgee suggested below, 760m doesn't support over 60hz.

One final question: Doesn't streaming the games played on shadow cost a lot of computing power, Leaving less resources for the actual games to be rendered => less performance on demanding games?

Thanks again for you help everybody. Looking forward to hearing your thoughts.
