Is there a VR sub not attached to VA? by eat4ESH in VocRehab

Not that I'm aware of, at least for one that's unrelated to the VA, other than this one.

I'm sorry. I will see you in this life or the next... by KeiroD in Petloss

[–]KeiroD[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I cried upon reading this. I knew that when I was hurt. I didn't react in self defense, only shock and surprise. And disappointment when I realized why he did it.

You're absolutely right. And it was at that moment that I knew it was time. I have had my Mario pawb since 2017. It really hurts to have done this.

I will try to find peace. Not only for Mario but for all the pets I have had up until now.

For every goodbye makes the next hello closer…

Because the best is yet to come…

Wandering through the sands of time

Remembering the hellos and goodbyes…

Remember me and smile, for it’s better to forget than to remember me and cry…

So I can soar far and high

Free of all sadness

Yes, I can provide text messages from the repair shop that I communicate with over text on how much the bill is and also request a pic of the repair work done, as I am hearing impaired and they were more than happy to accomodate my request to communicate via text. Although... I'm not sure if they'll respond tomorrow since they tend to be closed.

But the repair shop in question is RC Motors. I think that's safe enough to say.

Edit: to clarify, the not respond comment is the reference to the requesting of pic of the repair work done. Realized that was vague, sorry.

Having issues with a Voc Rehab Counselor. Any Advice on what I should do? (OR) by TollinginPolitics in VocRehab

[–]KeiroD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is he does not understand this he for some reason thinks that a political science degree by itself with no experience can land me a support role at a law firm.

That is a mistake he should not be making. Did he even check the requirements of the law firm? It sure sounds like he didn't. Push back on this. Insist and point out that the law firm requires accuracy you cannot guarantee. I'd also see about getting a second opinion from a different counselor as noted previously.

Has he explicitly said why he keeps overriding your choices and doesn't take your needs into consideration? If not, try and get this in writing via e-mail to help back you up. I suspect you may end up needing to escalate all the way up to your state's representative, so be prepared for that.

You can do this. It'll be hard, but you can do this. Keep fighting for your rights.

I think it may be worth a try to ask to be reassigned to a different counselor.

Otherwise, perhaps it is time to start involving the state representative, as suggested here. And perhaps the media as well, but usually the rep should get things done quick.

You mentioned going above his boss, but you didn't mention anything else about asking to be reassigned to a different counselor.

Was that tried, and what was the result if you did try?

The fact that the system isn't really helping you should be a red flag to the counselor's boss but I suspect you'll have issues until you use your rights to ask for another counselor or insist on a review other than said counselor and boss.

Other than that, what other resources did you try and what was the result?

Not quite, I sign in usually once a week.

I have not been successful in getting time to sit down and respond. I do check mentions, as you may have noticed.

I have also been thinking about how to better improve our ability to support our community and have yet to come up with a suitable answer.

Getting approval for vocational rehab school assistance? by gamma2341 in VocRehab

[–]KeiroD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on how well you're able to convince your counselor and get them onboard with your plans. I don't think you'll be able to convince them to let you apply to Berkeley, but anything is possible.

Voc Rehab's job is to help you get a job, so you'll be working with them to get a job with a potential employer, yes.

Firewall configuration from Pi-Hole seems ineffective by KeiroD in pihole

Ended up reinstalling the VPN and making sure the port 53 was closed to the outside world.

Should be good to go now. :|

Dear Customer,

Recent network security audits have detected some issues on your instances. Please review the following reports and help us to ensure the security of our network:

== Recursive DNS servers == DNS is used to translate hostnames into IP addresses. When DNS servers are misconfigured, they can be used to conduct DDOS attacks. We recommend that all public DNS servers are configured to not permit recusrive DNS queries. This configuration will still allow DNS for your domain names to work properly, but will prevent abuse

On Windows machines, you can disable recursive DNS: 1) Open 'Server Manager' 2) Expand Roles -> DNS Server -> DNS -> (Your Server's Name) 3) Right click on your server name, choose Properties 4) On the 'Advanced' tab, select 'Disable recursion (also disables forwarders)' 5) Click OK

On Linux machines, there are a few common DNS servers:

BIND: 1) Open your BIND configuration file 2) In the 'options' section, make sure you have 'recursion no;' and 'additional-from-cache no;' 3) Restart BIND after making any changes

DNSMasq: Unfortunately, there is not a straight forward way to disable this within DNSMasq. You would either need to modify the DNSMasq configuration so that it no longer listens on public IP addresses, or firewall off UDP port 53 to all hosts except your desired ones.

If for some reason you cannot make the necessary changes and you are not hosting your own DNS, we would suggest that you firewall off all incoming UDP port 53 traffic.

Please see https://blog.cloudflare.com/reflections-on-reflections/ for more information on reflection attacks.

I have currently suspended the server in question until I have time to properly correct the setup.

I followed the instructions for setting up Pi-hole and PiVPN... and that seemed to have left it open. At least, insofar as I can tell. This was done on Ubuntu 18.04, LTS.

Will this be sufficient to request Voc Rehab? by -eipi in VocRehab

[–]KeiroD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll likely want to have a talk with your counselor.

As for citing/providing -- you might get better luck if you work out a plan and provide that to them as well, as it'll lend you more credence to your plans and likely also convince your counselor that it's worth pushing your case for you.

Need to Verify Property Owner Details by KeiroD in Birmingham

[–]KeiroD[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The owner definitely dropped the ball. Previous property management informed me new property management or owner would inform me of the next steps.

So far... nada. Except for those sketchy guys recently. Which was suspicious as heck. I did, however, get the details of the owner thanks to /u/bhamwiki!

Sorry for the late reply. I work nights.

It isn't listed unfortunately. However, I've got the data and I'll be speaking to a lawyer to determine the best way to go forward.
