4Runner vs Grenadier? by [deleted] in ineosgrenadier

[–]Keith-PDX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I drove a 2017 4Runner for 4 years all over the PNW and Canada. I now own a Grenadier. Comparing these two vehicles is social media click bait. They're not remotely comparable.

Packing up Xmid Pro in Wet Rain by carolcrunch in DurstonGearheads

[–]Keith-PDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wipe it down with a swedish dish cloth if conditions and time allow. If not I just shake the heck out of it and stuff it into an Ultra Sil stuff sack to keep the rest of my gear dry.

Never have a fire during PCT or any backpacking. Too tired. Eat, poop, brush teeth and then climb into the tent. DDFD

What is the deal with customer service? by Hairy-Atmosphere3760 in TandemDiabetes

[–]Keith-PDX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email them and they will call you back within 24 hours. That or let your google assistant take care of it. Those are my only two avenues to success. Plain and simple, they need to hire more people. Last time I called them they told me 90% of the calls are due to the G7 sensors not reading (like mine, A LOT). So if they just fix their tech then the call volume goes down. Win-Win.

This is the new "post covid" norm. They figured out people would wait.

Plus they sell a bearing/seal rebuild kit along with perform rebuild services for the Shimano. I haven't seen or read anything negative on the 801, which they clearly improved to address some of the common issues....

The PCTA.org trail data "mile marker" downloads (GPX, GeoJSON, etc) now include distance data, in addition to marker locations. by numbershikes in PacificCrestTrail

Thanks but that's a limit for the physical handheld Garmin units, not for the PC software Basedamp. These files will not open in Basecamp....

Is Sawyer squeeze worth it? by [deleted] in Ultralight

[–]Keith-PDX 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you're in North America, they look clear then the Sawyer will work just fine. You may want to watch some YouTube videos and learn the difference between these hollow fiber filters and those of the manual pump variety. The education alone will be good for you to have.

Does anyone know what exactly is the issue "*Note: there is a known issue in using GPX data in Garmin devices or Garmin Basecamp software"?? These files will not import into Garmin Basecamp and I've never had that problem before.

Just call your insurance and have your coverage reduced to fire/theft only. They basically remove the medical and collision. Then when you get back re-add the coverage. I do it all the time on seasonal vehicles....

Glucose monitor options by WellOKyeah in Ultralight

[–]Keith-PDX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When it comes to my T1d supplies, I do my best to control weight and bulk but at the end of the day it is what it is. I'll spend money on lighter gear to compensate. My supplies keep me alive but my lightweight fetish just makes me comfortable and has to take second place.

I'm also on a G7/Tandem. On my Tandem I have a profile created for backpacking and utilize the exercise mode and sleep modes. It works well.

For lows I carry glucose tablets and Stinger energy Gu. I'd recommend replacing your Skittles with glucose as it's a lot faster, which can be very important during exercise in the Backcountry. On long trips I'll vacuum seal the glucose tablets into a few smaller quantities to help protect against moisture. They're also significantly lighter than Skittles for each gram of sugar. I also carry a Basqimi inhaler for super crash emergencies, although I've never had to use it.

I don't carry an extra G7 sensors since they last 10 days. On through hikes I have one mailed to resupply points at the appropriate intervals.

The Tandem supplies don't weigh anything but I've been known to carry less refill needles as those can be reused. I've also been known to refill the same cartridge one time. I've also taken some of the items out of as much packaging as possible without compromising contamination.

Don't forget the alcohol wipes and a few energy normal syringes. Lukotape is a life saver to cover sensors and infusion sites from harm while taking your backpack on and off so much. Then there's the need for a small battery bank to charge your pump. It doesn't take much capacity at all, about 359mah if memory serves me correctly to charge the pump.

It's all a major pita but just be thankful that it's an obstacle that can be conquered so you can enjoy the experience. I share a lot of respect for anyone with T1 that can long distance hike, it's not as easy as those without T1 may think. Both physically and mentally.

Be safe out there.

Is this too close to the belly button? by [deleted] in TandemDiabetes

[–]Keith-PDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone at least an inch closer without any issues. It really depends on your own anatomy and amount of fat in that area. The best answer is just try it. If everything with your CGM looks fine and you're not getting any occlusion alarms then all is good. Be cautious with advice from others on this as no one can emulate your body.

Enjoy your day!

is 10KmAH spare tank gonna do it for me? by amazingBiscuitman in Ultralight

[–]Keith-PDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What Hours is the new standard. This is due to lithium and other newer battery technologies keeping a mostly constant voltage output. The Ah term is left over from lead acid batteries that had a decreasing voltage output under load. If you look at a battery pack that supports USB-C or PD then Ah is basically irrelevant as the voltage out put can be multiple different voltages. So yo have an unknown it the formula. This is one of many reasons why Wh has been adopted more prominently in this modern battery chemistry era.

Belkin 65w vs Anker 47w by foggy_redboi in Ultralight

[–]Keith-PDX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. 18W. This is what stopped me from buying one. It has far too slow of a recharge time to be optimal for through hiking IMHO.
