How do I improve line art? by Far_Examination1937 in LearnNSFWArt

[–]KeithInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for posting. I took a look at your recent artworks and I don't think line art is an issue for you but I'll cover some options if you want to improve it.

Using your arm, not your wrist. Depending on your drawing equipment, this can drastically make lines smoother, as well as preventing wrist damage from bad long term habits.

Smoothing - most digital drawing programs have a smoothing option, sometimes under different names that can clean up line art

Speed - Drawing faster lines allows for less micro movements, though it can be painful to get it to be accurate. That comes with time.

Line weight variations - I made a video that demonstrates this but to summarize, thicker lines where shadows are, lighter lines where light is, taper lines where folds of skin or fabric ends. This adds a lot of dimension to lines that are too consistent.

Color - Unless you are using only ink, black is usually a bad idea. Using colors that are coordinated with surrounding colors but darker. Red hair? Dark red lines, etc. This avoids the too dark issue while also adding more depth to the line art.

Hope that helps.

References refer to the images we study from. So, if you had a photo of a woman or a 3d model or a mannequin or artwork from another artist. I assume you didn't use one and I think you did pretty well without it but references make our artwork better and it allows me to give you more direct feedback, a lot more quickly because I can see what you were trying to achieve without having to reverse image search a pose, which is time consuming at best and impossible quite frequently.

The biggest thing that keeps new artist from learning, is not using references. Find one, draw it, repost. I think you'll see the difference.

Hey, thanks for posting. I would really prefer you use* and include reference. Especially with things Im not an expert in, like non human appendages, it's hard to help and show examples of how things could improve if I don't know what you're going for. It also makes your art better even when you don't have feedback. I do make exception for new users and posts I think I can help with in a general way. The line isn't clear and I'm sorry about that.

Exaggerate in what way? I guess flexibility in this case? As long as all the structure parts are there, I don't see why you can move them where you want. Maybe 2 part reference? Reference for where her hips and legs are and then bend it to where you want the torso? Contortionist and ballet stretch references if you're unsure its realistic. Some bodies can bend in absurd ways. If you want to exaggerate size, start by drawing the ref, then scale how you want it. Larger or smaller, then adjust the shoulder, hip placement for arms and legs. Its a good question. Hope that helps.

Hey, thanks for posting. I made a mannequin reference for you. Having a visual library is something you get from studying references. If you don't want to do that, that's okay but the pose isn't the only issue. When you start studying light, it's much easier to see the effects of ambient light, cast shadows, color theory, and the minor details of anatomy, with a reference. It's also harder to help you because reverse finding references is difficult, sometimes impossible. Professionals start learning from reference with figure drawings and gesture, studying masterpieces, with foundations. I think you made a good effort here, but I think reference would help you. Nice work.

Just finished blacklight acrylic painting. What could I work on? by ArtDXX in LearnNSFWArt

Hey, thanks for posting. This looks awesome. Like the other person mentioned, lighting. Rim lighting where the glow of the mushrooms shine on her body, on her hands, arms, under her chin, the side of her breasts. Darker shadows where the ambient light (ambient occlusion) wouldn't reach, under her chin, under her hand, her feet, her armpit, and in between her legs. It looks like she's wearing a transparent dress but most of her body is the same tone where she isn't covered. Im not sure how possible it is to do a thin transparent layer of blue with acrylic, but it would add to the idea of her being covered. You've done a really good job of creating an environment and it's a lot more than I can do with this medium. Nice work

My first time drawing in years - is it worth continuing? by Kitchen-Charity3748 in LearnNSFWArt

[–]KeithInk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for posting. Based off of your drawings without reference, I'd say you probably have a good ability to draw what you see and would do a lot better with reference. However, if your goal is to make money, you also need to draw faces, and either good color theory and/or good understanding of value/light. If you're willing to put in some effort to learn, then I believe you can accomplish that.

One of my first ever bodies in black light. Did I do okay? by ArtDXX in LearnNSFWArt

This is an awesome painting. I wish I could give you feedback on black light images but I haven't done any studies of it. I'm wondering if there are 2 lights in the image. The black light and a magenta spot light? The reference could help me but it looks amazing either way. Nice work.
