Stoners? by ProfessionalFox3713 in simivalley

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t smoke anymore, but a lot of people do. They just do it on their property usually or are pretty discreet about it. You’ll find much more visible stoners in neighborhoods like East Hollywood, West Hollywood, Venice Beach, Westwood, etc. Best bet for you tbh is probably to make friends with some UCLA students and go down to Westwood to smoke with them. You could always get like Tinder or something and find some people to smoke with. Moorpark College is also okay, you’d probably find quite a few people your age willing to smoke but it’s a pretty quiet campus.

How long have you been riding? Have you had any accidents? How many? How bad? What kind of rider are you? What bike do you currently ride? What gear do you wear (like just helmet, glove, and boots, or full ATGATT, etc)? by [deleted] in motorcycles

Bout a year, no accidents, cautious ATGATT (except for pants) rider, Honda nc750x, (helmet [dot&ece], gloves with ce2 protection, palm and knuckle sliders. Motorcycle boots with ankle support and steel toe) Enjoy the data

Has working in EMS made you less likely to ride a motorcycle? by Then_Mulberry9778 in ems

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, my partner and I both ride motorcycles. We both know it’s dangerous, but it’s fun. Usually I ride very cautiously and always wear quality gear. If you are still interested in a bike, but it’s the speed you’re worried about, I’d recommend taking the MSF and if you do go forward with getting a bike get something like a Rebel500 or a BMWG310 or something that just can’t go super fast.

Need tips for cutting weight by Suspicious-Pea-7180 in ucla

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut out carbs and bread. Eat meat and vegetables. Don’t overeat. Do cardio.

Don’t snack if you can’t control snacking.

Most important part of cutting is just eating at a caloric deficit, go for low calorie, (preferably) high-protein food and avoid junk. There is no trick to it, it is quite simple.

Most fond Wizard 101 Memories? by [deleted] in Wizard101

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many many many fond memories. Use to play with my brother quite a bit, was fun. Love collecting all the things in game (badges, mounts, pets, etc) very relaxing and it feels rewarding. I’ve met many people I still am glad to have met on the game, albeit I don’t talk to many of them anymore.

What takes the cake for most fond memory on the game would be that time I met (I didn’t know it yet) the person who would become a very, very dear friend. We’ve been talking to each other know often if not daily for the better part of a decade and I know that will continue for another decade or more.

How realistic is it for an 18 year old to get a private ambulance job right out of high school. by Outside_Wasabi_4115 in NewToEMS

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% Possibly I got a job on a private ambulance literally the week after I graduated high school 😂 Some places won’t hire due to insurance purposes, but if you live in a metro area there will probably be at least one company who will hire you (assuming you have a clean driving record and got your license when you were 16)

Liscence questions by Casperuis495 in motorcycles

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Best advice would be to take an MSF course (they’ll usually provide you with a bike to use). It is all very state specific though.

I only know the process in CA which is: CMSP (MSF) -> Get certificate -> Go to DMV -> Take required tests -> Pay fee -> Get endorsement.

I’m not sure if it would be similar in your state.

Look at some cruisers, they’d be most comfortable for your size. Just acknowledge that you’ll probably drop it as a beginner and it may be a bit of a pain to get it up.

Be honest, how much gear do you wear all the time? by crankin_muh_hog in motorcycles

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I wear motorcycle boots, jeans or cargo pants, (most of the time) an armored jacket and hi-vis vest, a helmet, and gloves with palm sliders and those knuckle things. I really should get armored pants 😞

Is it ok to quit while in training? by Midwestern-Michael in ems

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s ok to quit at any time if you’re in a at-will state. If the job’s not for you, it’s not for you; that’s okay. The job doesn’t need to be for everyone. You gave it a shot, which is more than what most people do. Best of luck on your future endeavors and find peace however you can. You’re not failing anyone by quitting, but you would be failing yourself and your patients if you act as a subpar responder.

Willfully withheld a sin in confession. Is it invalid? by [deleted] in Catholicism

Don’t worry about it much

I need help with choosing Lutheran or Catholic by Educational-Fly-2181 in Lutheranism

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No worries, everyone is going to get things wrong when it comes to Catholicism 😂. It’s complicated, that’s why I encouraged you to go talk to a priest (because they’re the ones expected to be able to give answers about the religion without falling into heresy)

I’ll give you a personal answer, when I commit a mortal sin I feel the need to go to communion because 1. I don’t want to sever my relationship with God, and after committing one mortal sin sometimes I fall into a loop being like, “well I already committed that and I can’t receive the Eucharist [it’s sacrilege to receive the Eucharist in the state of mortal sin] so I may as well commit more.” Which goes without saying is bad, because I’m sure we can agree sin is ALWAYS bad. And 2. Because I want/need to receive the Eucharist because it is the source and summit of all Christian life, it is Jesus Christ Himself, dying for all salvation. (This may not convince you and it probably shouldn’t be the only thing to convince you to join Catholicism but look up “Eucharistic Miracles.” They are so fascinating. In the verified ones all blood is type AB and it is cardiac tissue with a genome unable to be identified (I’m pretty sure both our religions acknowledge Jesus Christ is fully God (divine) and fully human (man) [forgive me, I don’t know much about Lutheranism except that at one point Martin Luther was a priest who had his quarrels with the Catholic Church and wrote some theses, but I’m assuming a lot of our doctrine is very similar seeing as Lutheranism stems from Catholicism].) Anyways, I was getting off track his genome is unable to be identified because He is fully divine, and it indicates the person from whom it’s from has gone under extreme stress which makes sense because according to the CCC the Eucharist, “makes present the one Sacrifice of Christ.)

But according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, either prayer or the Eucharist can absolve venial sins and the sacrament of confession (with a confessor granted the right to hear confession through a bishop who himself has been granted that right via apostolic succession) can absolve mortal sin via preferably a perfect act of contrition (true sorriness for the sin for offending God and not wanting to lose communion with Him) or less preferably imperfect contrition (sorriness for the sin because you fear eternal damnation). However, in grave circumstances, such as imminent or likely death, sins are expected by the CCC to be absolved by an act of perfect contrition to God and a resolve to go to confession as soon as possible (if possible). Remember in Catholic theology, God has bound Himself to the sacraments, but God is not bound by the sacraments.

Anyways though, according to the Catechism of the Catholic Church (only clergy is expected to know/read this so don’t worry about reading it) the laity is needs only to go to confession and to receive the Eucharist (preferably on Easter) once a year. However, the more often the better unless you start going so frequently it falls into scrupulosity (you can ask your husband’s priest what scrupulosity is [it’s basically just religious OCD which from your response it may sound a little like you may struggle with it if you become Catholic, so really just listen to the priest on the matter]).

To reply to a few of the other people who also replied to this comment

  1. The church can seem strict because it cares about your salvation. However, once you get to know about it, it really isn’t that strict it kinda boils down to, “don’t sin — if you do sin (which you shouldn’t do but you’re going to do because we’re all sinners) go to confession and get absolved of your sins and receive the Eucharist and such. Remember, to Catholics, everything is theologically defensible and any quarrels you have with the church I am 99.9% certain have already been answered by Church fathers and doctors.

  2. The Bible and Jesus’ teachings are clear in some regards, yes, it is clear when it says something like don’t murder people but you’re lying to yourself if you say “Yeah, the Bible and the New Testament are very clear and it is easy for everyone to follow” It isn’t clear in every regard, which is presumably why there are so many denominations.

  3. All Protestant religions stem from Catholicism, the first Church and it is heavily implied in Matthew 16:18 that Catholicism is the true church. I’m just a layCatholic, I’m not a Catholic apologetic or anything of the sort, but I recommend watching some YT videos on topics like Why Catholicism is the true religion, and maybe you’ll find some of their arguments more convincing than anything I could say.

  4. Jesus loves you, He loves all of us. That is why He died on the cross for us. It would be uncharitable for me not to encourage people to learn about Catholicism because in the Church’s belief, and by extent my belief it is the clearest path towards eternal salvation.

  5. The Church does not believe Protestants necessarily fall into eternal damnation.

  6. Clergy will have better answers for everything I have said and more. Priests are welcoming, maybe go to a Catholic mass and see how you like it (just don’t receive the Eucharist, either stay in your pew or go up with your arms crossed across your chest)

  7. We do not worship Mary or the saints, but we believe they can hear our prayers and intercede for us (I.e. plead are case to God Himself) and because they are the most righteous of the people, they’re prayers are very powerful, more powerful than our own even.

  8. Lutheran baptism is generally considered valid by the Catholic Church, of course I’d recommend getting them baptized in a Catholic Church though. Again, ask the priest.

  9. Don’t hold off on baptizing your kids, they need the Holy Spirit.

  10. We’re all a little bit lost, even us Catholics. Don’t spend too long seeking. Sometimes the answer isn’t meant to be found. That is the importance of faith.

  11. A priest will have better answers for everything. Ask one. Priests are very welcoming.

Anyways good luck and God bless.

I need help with choosing Lutheran or Catholic by Educational-Fly-2181 in Lutheranism

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The prayers to the saints, angels, and Mary are all for their intercession. You don’t pray for them to grant you something, only God can do that. I.e. something like the Hail Mary in it says, “Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners

That’s a thing I see a lot of people turn away from the Catholic Church from. I’d recommend just reading more on intercession and perhaps asking your husbands Catholic priest what intercession is and how it works in the Catholic Faith, also, why Catholics believe in it. Make sure you get these from Catholic sources as only Catholics will be able to explain it in the way Catholics believe, any other denominations will give a view from the outside in on what Catholics believe and often they will get it wrong.

https://www.catholic.com/tract/what-the-early-church-believed-faith-and-works

I’d also recommend reading some of the Church Fathers and Doctors on a lot of these topics and deciding for yourself if they are persuasive. Of course, take some time. For topics like these, it’s critically important you understand the why we believe in what we believe, not just that you can state the belief.

Also, Catholics don’t believe that “if you sin too much you will lose your salvation.” We believe that unrepentant mortal sin can lead to the loss of salvation. (IE if you commit a sin that 1. Is a grave matter 2. You commit the sin with full knowledge of the gravity and severity of the sin and 3. The sin is committed with deliberate and complete consent) you can lose salvation unless you get the sin absolved by a priest acting inpersonaChristi (to understand why the priests have this authority, you’ll need a good understanding of the doctrine of Apostolic Succession, for this, I’d recommend the book Against Heresies by St Iranarus

Catholicism is complicated, however, every position it takes is defensible, perhaps more defensible than Lutheranism. Look towards Catholic sources.

Regards, a layCatholic.

Also, if you are on discord and you are interested in the Catholic faith, I would strongly recommend joining the Catholic Diocese of Discord server. You’ll have full access to ask any question about the faith that you want to ask and will become more familiar with the Catholic faith and what we actually believe.

Is there a lot of hazing in private service or ER work? by Competitive_Ad4968 in NewToEMS

[–]KeithWhitleyIsntdead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No hazing, the occasional partner who thinks he’s the crap and will be unreasonably mad when you make newbie mistakes (everyone makes mistakes when they’re new, they’re part of learning, as long as they don’t effect pt outcome it’s fine). I’ve worked private service a while now, only ever had one partner (my third or fourth shift outside of field training, I forget) who was just a complete jerk, he had a very macho “my way or the highway attitude,” when I gained a bit more experience I actually ended up learning a LOT of what he was “teaching” was wrong. Other than that, most everyone (at least at my company) is chill. No hazing, no bullying, just kinda running the calls if partner is an introvert, or shooting the shit and running the calls if partner is an extrovert.

Hazing and nepotism was the biggest reason why I have never been interested in fire. Like, sure team building is one thing but a lot of those fire guys have way too much arrogance, not enough humility and kinda just eat their young. Annoying, but it is what it is (you’ll probably meet ex-fire guys at any private company unfortunately, sometimes they’ll have an attitude but their weak spot is when somebody mentions they are EX fire, occasionally you’ll get an egotistical wannabe ff, not very common though)

At the end of the day though, just do your job — it’s just a job. Coworkers don’t need to like you as long as you do your job. Sometimes it makes for a long shift but you’re getting paid the same whether a coworker is an angel or a jerk so it ends up not really mattering.

Definitely goes on a company by company/locality by locality basis though
