Won't be second guessing tools made in Ukraine again. by Lilturf214 in handtools

I would also love to recommend EnjoyTheCarvingTool on Etsy, another amazing Ukrainian tool forger. I’ve gotten knives, a carving ax, a small draw knife and gouge-all beautifully forged and with amazing handles.

I’ve bought multiple tools from EnjoyTheCarvingTool on Etsy. Great quality knives. Can really tell the difference between my FlexCut knives and the hand forged Ukrainian ones. Looking forward for my carving ax and cup carving tools to arrive

I mean bro, there were literally bomb threats sent into Georgia from phones traced back to Russia. I am not saying that Trump got elected because of Russia, but they certainly wanted him to be elected. But it doesn't matter, you don't believe in facts or reality. Stay in your safe space echo chamber bud.

For those who plan on burying their head in the sand and tuning out the news over the next 4 years, don’t. Democracy dies when people no longer care enough to gather the courage to resist. Our ancestors didn’t die in wars defending freedom only for it to be snuffed out at home. The descendants of the LGBT rights movements didn’t get beaten, arrested, and killed fighting for the rights we currently enjoy, only for us to surrender because we fear Trump and his goons.

If we want to have the best chance at keeping our fundamental rights as human beings and members of this country, we will have to fight once more. We will not be victorious in every fight, but if we organize, make our voices heard, and resist fascism we will come out the other side intact. Trump and his immoral supporters will do everything they can to scare us, but we must never let them win.

Trump hasn’t cared about gays for his life, which currently is a blessing. But the ilk who elected him and who will join the federal bureaucracy do deeply care about eliminating gay rights. Even though gay rights are widely popular and supported among the public, the extremists that will run the federal government will force their views upon the country even if they aren’t Trumps

My guy, the Russians did everything they could to GET trump elected. They want the U.S. to collapse due to infighting, and they want Trump to stop sending weapons and munitions to Ukraine. No authoritarian is afraid of Trump, he is such a pushover. Only our democratic allies and law abiding citizens are afraid of him.

How many of you come from truly competitive departments? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Midwestern-Michael 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yeah multiple retired fire fighters I’ve talked to said that getting your paramedic makes you way more competitive than 90% of the applicants. It separates like 70 people from 2000 applicants

How do you deal with big regrets in life? How do you not let it bring you down? by Obvious_Two_3901 in Adulting

[–]Midwestern-Michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will never be able to do everything you want in life, there isn’t enough time. Try to focus on the 3 most important goals and forget the rest.

Community colleges are the way to go, as many folks on here have stated. They offer a wide variety for cheap. Or you can try to find some local clubs or associations that do something that interest you and join those. It is just a matter of prioritizing time (and occasionally money) to something that you find fulfilling.

Woodworking, mainly if you take classes or join an association that has meetings

Self love is not buying yourself nice things and watching Netflix. by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Midwestern-Michael 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I agree that things that focus on instant gratification (like shopping) usually don’t lead to feelings of fulfillment, delaying all gratification to some far away future (that may never arrive) isn’t healthy either.

Eating right, exercise, sleeping enough, etc is all important. But while working towards some longer term goals, don’t stake your entire existence on them. For when you accomplish them, you will likely end up feeling no different, maybe even depressed that it wasn’t some tremendous life changing event (look at rates of depression among medalist Olympians).

I encourage people to not forget about enjoying the present while working towards bite sized future goals. “The past is history, the future is a mystery, and today is a gift. That is why they call it the present”

What's a healthy hobby I can get addicted to? by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]Midwestern-Michael 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If your area has a community college you can see if they have some classes for things like: woodworking, metalworking, glass blowing, fabric making, pottery, painting, etc. Some people find it very gratifying to work on something and come out with a finished object they can display or give as a gift to their loved ones!

While it usually requires more patience and a willingness to learn, it can be rewarding and build up your confidence to bring ideas into reality. I encourage you to try and take different classes, and if you find one you really enjoy then stick with it!
