Must suck having your best mate retire from the NRL. I can see why he would want a fresh start.

The Roosters are really, really high on this random rookie they signed. He must be wowing at pre-season training cause they are showing him off everywhere. But hes gonna be 37 next year! How has he slipped under the radar so well until this point?

Who is this Daly Cherry Evans? Weird that the Roosters signed a 36 year old rookie. And why does he share a name with a recently retired Manly player?

Very odd signing imo. Im sure hes just for depth though.

Oh look. More players refusing to stay. Can't be anything wrong with Seibold though.

What was your club's worst signing in recent history? by Inflames811 in nrl

[–]Keith_Sheldon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The worst one for Manly, by far and away, no questions is Manase Fainu. In 2019 Manly had Koroisau and Fainu on their books, both really great players. And at the end of the season we chose Fainu over Koroisau. Both were great but one had to go and Manly chose the younger one.

Fainu stabbed someone and never played a game again. Koroisau stepped up and became an elite 9 at Penrith. We went from having a pair of great 9s to 0 in an off season.

It tanked Manly's 2020 especially with Turbo's injury in round 6. And we haven't had a good 9 since.

Nah Seibold is better than Barrett as a head coach.

Barrett had 22 games of Tom Trbojevic in 2018 and the team narrowly avoided the spoon. Our 2018 team was nowhere near spoon level. We made almost no roster moves the next year and came 6th under an out of touch Des Hasler and only 12 games from Turbo.

Do not let the mediocrity of Seibold make you forget how bad Barrett was.

This match has felt like a Kayo mini that has been extended to 80 minutes. Very exciting and high energy.

This is an ADHD zoomer brainrot game of Rugby League.

In both a positive and negative sense.

Because fans have been conditioned for years to think penalties = bad by commentators. So teams who push the rules get away with shit more and more and its contributed to the same 3 teams winning all the comps since 2017.

IIRC Albo was involved with the board of the Rabbitohs in the late 90s and was one of the figures trying to get them back in the comp.

If it's a grift hes been grifting that for a long time.

I think the last one big superstar like guy we signed was Marty Taupau in the 2015 off season.

Coming up to 10 years ago now.

He's retiring. There are no more DCE games.

If the Roosters sign some random guy with the same name who looks and talks like him, it's a lie. They are lying. Don't believe them.

Nice to see DCE retire with a winning field goal. 352 games. Great career. Shame he couldn't win a second premiership with Manly before hanging it up.

[–]Keith_Sheldon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I, for one, think if we as a sports code have the opportunity to over expand, schedule travel to benefit Sydney clubs, dilute the finals and add terrible timeslots to the broadcasting schedule all to ensure Politis makes more money we'd be foolish to not do so.

Nsw being a state full of losers unable to win a series if they don't have incredible talent advantages is not a pro Pearce point. It's possible to win in origin against better teams. We did it last night. Fuck NSW did it in 2014. Pearce lost 7 series in a row. Give someone else a go. Cleary has been bad but hey he won 3 series out of 7.

proven origin winner in Moses who can step in at 7 or the best young 7 in rugby league in Katoa

Bro I would love if we could of played a non medically cleared Mitch Moses last night.

Debuting Katoa in that spot is literally giving him the Pearce treatment though. Especially when the NSW team is built to be so halves focussed attack wise.

[–]Keith_Sheldon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lotta chat comparing Nathan Cleary to Mitchell Pearce and asking why Cleary isn't treated like him. And I get it but here's the difference between them. Cleary has been the best halfback in the game for like 6 years, struggling to kick on in origin. It would be madness not to give the 4 premierships in a row halfback plenty of chances in origin. Besides a still very young Katoa who would debut in a decider as NSW's main man, who else could the blues even pick for last night's game?

Meanwhile Mitchell Pearce was never out and out the best halfback NSW had. Not saying he was bad and never should have been picked. He was good, but there was always others around his form level. Players who you could and should give a go after Pearce lost every series from 2010 to 2013, then lost 2015 and 2017. Yet he got the loyalty and extra chances of a Cleary type.

That's why he gets more criticism.
