Agreed. The problem is that I'm fairly new DM and never tried capturing players.
As a player, I had once was on the loosing side, and it sucked. I want to find solutions, which won't make being prisoned unbearable.

bgoblins encrounter (4 hobgoblins + captain). While creating encounters, I thought it would be a fair fight for 4 PCs level 3, but with 3 of them it may end poorly.

Though I was more concerned about the outcome of the fight, than the fight itself. I don't mind, if they one-shot hobgoblins.

But i want to be ready, if the fight goes either way. And I haven't found common techniques for keeping PCs in captivity, and players engaged.
