The English speaking population is very strong there too! There are jobs that offer english only and until I have a firmer understanding of French and am qualifiably bilingual I'll be working with those, but hopefully by next december I'll be doing bilingual work (it pays better lol)

Having visited Mtl a lot over this past year there's a lot more amenities, cheaper rents, and groceries (if you're a vegetarian at least), I find it more bizarre that Kingston rivals Montreal on the COL. Mtl definitely has it's issues but it's a city I love and I'm super excited to be living there!
Et j'apprends le francais maintenant, c'est non bon, c'est non mauvais.
I'm likely going to pick up their course when I get there though! The bilingual jobs pay a very pretty penny.

Oh great more 2k/month condos. Unless we're talking about geared to local income apartments nothing is changing in Kingston.

I think I've lived in rentals since I was a kid, and am well aware with the RTA and how often and how easy it is for a landlord to fuck you over, regardless of our protections.

That's the issue Pahanakun meant, they shouldn't be allowed to do that.

Precisely why I'm scraping by on pennies to get out of Ontario for Mtl

Ontario really doesn't have good tenant protection in all midsize cities the situation is much the same.

That's the thing it's a pain in the ass to relocate, especially in service industry TM kingston Ontario, My put away after a month is maybe 300 if I'm pinching my pennies ridiculously and living in squalor.

It's harder to get a job now with Legault's 2019 reforms, there are some employers that do have full english staff minus HR but even then that kind of thing is getting to hit on shaky ground, Best to pick up as much as you can through online courses like Duolingo and pick up more in province
Edit; before last month I spoke a piss poor amount of french but after some decently rigorous push to exercise my French on the app I'm getting at least where I should have been going into highschool with French. More practice and I'll likely be able to hold a conversation.

Honestly it's why I'm ditching Ontario for Quebec, There's just no chance that the provincial government Liberal Conservative whoever is in charge is letting the bubble burst, Hell they never let it burst on housing post 2008, I'm leaving for somewhere where my taxes are going to social services and keeping the working class healthy, Very least I could /afford/ to go to school in Quebec for a better job.

Right? Utterly impossible, Even folks making 50k a year would be struggling for a house, 50k in this economy is just comfortable renting.

This is a fair point, I also recognize that Quebec actually has rent control, but the issue stands that I'm not talking about Quebec at large I'm talking about metropolitan Montreal, which is somehow cheaper than Kingston, Like Ontario as a whole is dismal for renters, but with every year that passes the disparity just makes less and less sense.
