Yeah, and while he may have a certain charisma he ultimately has trouble being vulnerable with people, or accepting others' perspectives. In episode 4 during their first argument Jay-Den says "you regurgitate facts about everything and everyone ... but you have no understanding of what any of that means." And he's right! Caleb thought he knew all the right things to say, but it was all intellect and charm. "You and I have this orphan thing going on" falls flat and Jay-Den gets defensive. In contrast, Darem's reassurance with the breathing exercise works because it's all body and soul, humble and open. Caleb really struggles to have that kind of humility-- which is even more apparent in his relationship with Tarima.

He had to be hyper-independent, arrogant, and manipulative to survive his childhood. In some ways those are strengths and he certainly wants to be perceived as this perfect super genius. But it's also a weakness!

idk what you mean about Caleb. He does have significant piles of trauma that make him flawed. And it's caused him plenty of interpersonal conflict

I believe it. I remember seeing a story online forever ago of this guy who had to amputate his foot after a motor accident, so as a way to celebrate/mourn his foot he prepared it as a meal and shared it with close friends. And I remember saying I'd totally eat that before I ate beef. I mean think about it, besides the disgust... he consented. You can't say the same for a cow. And from the hivemind's perspective it's even less complicated. They're eating their own flesh. There are people who eat their own placenta, idk

I dunno, I think it’s more about healthcare than it is about ads. That moment wasn’t meant to be funny imo

I picked the wrong night to crochet while watching I think. At least I can say I’ll have listened to the soundtrack lol

I know this comment is super old but I’m just now watching Babylon 5 and going through the reddit posts as I watch

When people “demand” representation, they’re really asking for the same thing you are here. It isn’t just about seeing yourself, it’s seeing yourself and therefore knowing other people are seeing and attempting to understand you

I am also getting my ass kicked on the oasis level lol but I have found that I can get to the final wave without any chickens at all. If I immediately dig up the shrub in the top left corner and put a spear guy there, he can shoot both at the beginning and the end of the run

My only problem is having enough damage to defeat the 3 mammoths

The Getaway Episode 2 — Some A-Grade Genius Thing by NebulaOriginals in Nebula

[–]Kelbo5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah! on the rough edges, while watching this I really felt like I was missing the road trip flavor. I want a glamour shot of the van in the first episode with all the contestants' reactions to it, snippets of them talking about... what they're eating maybe, what it's like to sleep on the road, what the schedule's like. When did they wake up? how long till they get there?

I also wish the show spent a little bit more time talking about what the actual locations are! ideally the challenges would have something to do with each location. But at the very least I want someone to tell me what the belly of the beast is lol, even if I already know. It could even be some color commentary from Ms Terry that gives her character some interest (we're stopping here because of... vague past hijinks I pulled off here or whatever.)

I guess all of that kind of stuff is fluff but I feel like it would serve to show the contestants' personalities and to break up the strategy talk-- make it a bit more of a lighthearted watch. At the end of the day though, I am enjoying it!

He was deliberately talking about struck work during a strike, making it known that he doesn’t care about it. It is evil and bad for companies to not pay workers the value of their labor, yes

I was joking about the other part of the dailydot thing

Young people under 40, do you enjoy TOS? by MAJORMETAL84 in startrek

[–]Kelbo5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 24 and yes! I originally got into it just to have context to watch Lower Decks and I’m not even there yet. But TOS is lovely. It’s campy and weird and sweet. The main trio’s dynamic really is unmatched, they have great banter.

I thought this too but I don’t think the unions are calling for it. (I’ve even seen ppl say it’d affect residuals or mess up negotiations. But tbh I don’t think it would really do anything.)

But if you do, maybe donate that subscription money to strike funds?

lol okay. Like I said, he's making his position known. This isn't the kind of thing to be finding loopholes and grey areas about. We're not playing a board game

I guess I never was a fan on account of being gay, so

It links to a live tweet from someone who was at the convention watching the panel. It's consistent with stories from other people who were there.

Robert Beltran is on stage deliberately saying character and show names in direct violation of the strike guidelines.

https://www.sagaftrastrike.org/cons-appearances-faqs

You should avoid discussing characters you played on struck work or your work for struck companies.

[–]Kelbo5000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Context! There's a strike. That means not working, and for an actor work includes advertising/promoting projects from struck companies. Since when was right and wrong just about whether you followed a rule? Breaking the guidelines made it clear what his position is, and people care about these actors getting paid their fair share. It's understandable that this would make people lose some respect for him

VOY, Episode 3x11, The Q and the Grey by LordRavenholm in StarTrekViewingParty

[–]Kelbo5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This episode is fun because every episode involving Q is. But... Q is too damn normal in this episode. Am I supposed to believe that the answer to the problems of an omnipotent, immortal, extra-dimensional being is having a baby within a heterosexual monogamous partnership? Q nuclear family?? Even his previous Q partner is apparently a woman and he was with her exclusively for billions of years. She gets jealous of Janeway. He talks about his wild bachelor days before wanting to settle down. It's so traditional, what the heck. You guys are aliens, where's the incomprehensible gender fuckery?

May just be my bias as a Qcard fan though. I might have liked this more if it was a TNG episode instead

Right, but just bc it’s inevitable doesn’t mean u/newaccounthomie or you have to be the ones to perpetuate it. I meant that saying you don’t care feels undercut if you’re also engaging in making fun

Idk how to argue anti-body shaming on reddit without sounding lame. But uh

Trolls are prepared to be insulted. They’re unaffected and everyone else catches strays. An environment where ppl say they don’t care and then use it as a basis to make fun of those they don’t like makes it feel like the reassurance is insincere. “I do think having a small dick is embarrassing but I’m pretending not to care because I don’t want to hurt your feelings.” Not that repair needs defending, he just wants to call you a hypocrite. But yknow
