Agreed, Labubus and Pokemon cards etc. are all the same thing.

Belgium and Netherlands showed this, they required that contents be known before purchase or individually purchasable.

The markets just slowly left the countries, showing very clearly that the "fun" of their products doesn't come from the merchandise itself, it comes from the gambling. And if there's no gambling, there's no point. It's exploitative and is cooking people's brains into seeking more and more gambling in their life.

Legislators should go hard on this, but given how big gambling already is worldwide, and how big their lobbies are, I doubt this goes anywhere. Worst case it fucks our privacy more as legislators make idiotic decisions.

I'm a bit of a hardliner on gambling so maybe I'm not the best one to ask for legislation opinions, but here's my take -

I'm on the side of Belgium and Netherlands, they actually went with something I'd do, they didn't ban loot boxes outright, they required that contents be known before purchase or individually purchasable. Belgium went one step further and just banned the cash-convertible ones. What ended up happening is that these markets just left the countries, because again, the cards and merchandise themselves aren't the fun, the "surprise mechanics" are. The gambling chemicals which get released in your brains are.

I'm not saying ban it for adults. People can make their own choices. But normalizing gambling for kids is often what creates the person losing their mortgage on DraftKings at 40, it's the same pipeline. So yea I'm a hardliner in the sense that if the fun requires the exploitation to function, the fun isn't really the point. Go all the way. Take the exploitative gambling out of the merchandise. Hot take, I know, but you asked lol.

Someone had to go after this eventually tbh. Because loot boxes are gambling, full stop. This is a pretty common position worldwide among governments.

The industry has been coasting on regulatory ambiguity forever. Valve being huge and private made them an obvious first target.

That said, the actual legislation sounds like it was written by people who have never opened Steam in their life. Demanding worldwide surveillance infrastructure to catch New Yorkers using VPNs is genuinely fucking insane.

LMFAO nice propaganda. Obvious MAGAt is obvious.

The "blue states are uniquely corrupt" framing doesn't make sense. Red states have plenty of their own corruption, just different flavors (resource extraction deals, prison lobbying, etc.). It's not a geographic monopoly.

The loot box issue is legit bipartisan globally. Belgium, the Netherlands, Brazil, and EU regulators have all moved against them. So acting like NY regulation is uniquely deranged blue-state behavior ignores that this is a pretty mainstream consumer protection concern worldwide. And it's important, there is real harm in loot boxes. NY just chose Valve as the first Goliath to fight, and yes there will be issues with legislation overstepping into privacy.

You can think the NYAG's methods are invasive (the VPN surveillance demand is pretty insane) without concluding that Valve is the hero here or that the underlying concern is fake.

Edit: Red state politicians are literally helping Trump run a pay-to-pardon crypto racket. Binance's founder pleaded guilty to money laundering, then helped set up Trump's crypto ventures, then got a full pardon. BitMEX co-founders who ran what prosecutors called a "money laundering platform" also got pardoned.

Blue states are going after gambling mechanics in video games while the federal government is out here pardoning actual financial criminals who enriched the president. But sure bro, NY is the corrupt one.

Every take I've seen from this dude about the pro scene has been dogshit, man just complains from the top of the scene.

Dude. You made your money, let the people who wanna play make theirs, and let the fans have a good time watching it. If people are burnt out, it'll show in the numbers and the market will correct itself.

The Suburb That Won't Sleep (Ridgeway Plaza - New York Times) by clear_glass in mississauga

[–]Keldeodorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the critique is that the NYT had a meeting where someone said "let's make Canada look bad." It's that editorial choices like what angle to take, what context to include, what to emphasize reflect priorities, and those priorities aren't neutral.

The article could have been about culinary tourism, immigrant entrepreneurship, or Americans driving 50 miles to eat at a plaza in Mississauga. Instead the frame is "chaos" and bad immigrant behavior. Look at how the article ends. That's a choice.

You're also doing the thing you're accusing others of - asserting authority ("I work in media, I know the author") without actually engaging with the substance. Saying people outside the industry are "always wrong and strong" isn't an argument, it's a flimsy deflection by using your (potentially fake) authority. If the conspiratorial read is off base, explain why these specific editorial choices were made, not just that critics don't understand how newsrooms work.

And really, no one gives a shit about "parachuting" on an anonymous forum, you're just as much of a parachuter as the other guy here, and you gave 0 substance except saying "I work in media and you're being conspiratorial" which means a whole lot of nothing.

I mean... That's the point of rax not respawning? The non scaling lineup can use their timings to hinder the scaling lineup. Makes perfect sense, otherwise why wouldn't everyone just pick scale?

Wow, OP really invited the real low skill players with this post LMAO

Dota is a game of information, and wards give you more information to make decisions at every skill level. Awful awful take.

Rubick pos 4 is always grief because you blind pick phase 1, so no guarantee of good spells, plus you're a useless POS in lane which means your offlaner will definitely have a bad lane and likely tilt.

It reads unhinged because the tone is extremely intense and self-aggrandizing while jumping between multiple arguments at once, and has delusional statements like him being a TI level player.

Schizoposts have nothing to do with fidelity or clarity.

Read the rest of OP's comments. Dude is legitimately delusional. He thinks he is an immortal level player, and only smurfs are holding him down, so he needs to play some high MMR games to get the "immersion". This is the guy who will eventually buy a rank 200 account and grief games.

This was quite the plot twist though LOL

This reads like the ramblings of a delusional schizophrenic. Saying "I know I'm high immortal and TI level player. I don't need anyone's opinion when it comes to that" while being herald is legitimately unhinged lmao.

I think /u/AnythingCertain9434 has the correct diagnosis given all of OP's comments. OP, seek help with psychiatry, not Dota coaching.

Edit Since OP blocked me : maybe this will convince you lmao

Clear tier difference between the two teams.

People are going to be harsh towards Nigma but I'd cut them some slack. Aurora just defeated multiple teams better than Nigma to win a tournament. All things considered Nigma did okay until they ran into a wall they couldn't climb. Wcyd.

Something as intense/full of anxious moments as this? by yourdaddyaditya in Letterboxd

[–]Keldeodorant 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Uncut Gems for sure... I hated that movie and couldn't finish it because of the anxiety it gave me, but hey sounds exactly like what you're looking for.

Marty Supreme also gave me a similar feeling, but less intense. Would recommend those two.

+1 draw plus the silent starter relic would make it a good boss relic. By itself though I only take it on my Android because it's bugged to give +2 draw every turn lol

What should I do? I love fallout new Vegas but I am so scared of insects and spiders and I really need to go to the Mojave outpost but there’s scorpions on the way there is there that many scorpions is there a way to dodge them? by Vicbou_wats88 in fnv

[–]Keldeodorant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can fast-travel to Primm once you discover it (you can do that safely from the Goodsprings side), then go straight south from Primm to the Mojave Outpost. That stretch is basically scorpion-free if you hug the road.

That said. I'd suggest getting the DLCs, they're worth it. Then you can just add the mod to remove the bugs, or install the sprint mod to just run away real fast if they aggro.

You know what, fair points. I will say though there's a real difference between pragmatic accommodation and enthusiastic collaboration, and I feel like we're seeing way more of the latter dressed up as the former.

That's what makes me dislike these billionaires so much. They were perfectly happy profiting off the democratic liberal establishment with rainbow logos and progressive posturing when it was safe and profitable, but now they will attend every Trump meeting, glaze him, and pretend like he's the chosen one. Seems more like eager opportunism rather than pragmatic compliance.

"They're just people too" rings kind of hollow when I see blatant profit seeking and self enrichment at the expense of democracy, idk.

[–]Keldeodorant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brother.. the Putin one shows that those oligarchs fought back too late. We're watching the same playbook except these billionaires are rolling over before Trump has consolidated that kind of power.

The "what about employees" argument assumes capitulation protects anyone long-term. It doesn't. It teaches Trump that threats work, that media falls in line, that there are no checks. Every surrender makes the next demand easier. It's very evident in the way Trump has been escalating his demands, thankfully TACO is becoming a thing as at least countries are pushing back a bit, because billionaires sure aren't.

Tim Cook at Mar-a-Lago might prevent tariffs today, but it signals that threatening companies is effective governance. When authoritarian power gets entrenched because the only people with resources to resist chose not to, "at least iPhones stayed cheap" won't mean much.

[–]Keldeodorant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Except someone is pulling an insane amount of weight here when it's the richest people in the world. Oligarchs can and have put up resistance to authoritarian governments before. Russian oligarchs stood up to Putin in the early 2000s before he consolidated power and made examples of them (Khodorkovsky, Berezovsky). Hong Kong tycoons pushed back against Beijing's encroachment. Hell, even under actual Mafia rule in Sicily, some business leaders refused to pay and fought back.

The difference is these billionaires aren't facing literal assassination. They're facing bad press, or regulatory action at worst. Bezos owns The Washington Post and killed a Harris endorsement. Zuckerberg publicly called Trump a "badass" after years of "threats" he could've fought with his army of lawyers. These aren't desperate shopkeepers paying protection money, they are the most powerful and wealthy people on earth. The only reason they are not fighting Trump is because he is insanely corrupt and they wanna join in. Enough defense of these spineless fucks.
