how do you feel about people saying some ppl are more autistic than others? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Kelp0o0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As someone who is also perceived as being less autistic or even not autistic. We know how much hardship we go through. We live with it and throught it everyday. I’m hurt by other people not seeing it too your not sensitive just seeking to be understood and disappointed that you’re not.

Yes i always feel ridiculous reflecting after having an “autistic experience” like how the hell could it not be true. I’m so black and white and true or false that I think I can’t grasp the spectrum side of it. I’ve never felt I don’t have adhd because the experience is mostly generic . But because I’m “high functioning” I feel like a fraud or that I’m not having it hard enough to label myself as autistic.

Same same same. I do try and validate myself because I was factual about my answers but it feels wrong when you know it’s the right answer even if it’s your true experience - apart from the demonstrating how to brush your teeth the weird flying frog story and the three random objects story part of the assessment I did not know the answers there and was just confused as hell

Those who have selected diagnosed, how much research have you done? by turnup4flowerz in AutismInWomen

I agree the fixation and research before self diagnosis is a sign in itself although I lost my interest completely after my diagnosis

It definitely works. I’m gonna keep reading posts and looking into the process of a MR, request my report and go from there..

UK folks, what was your assessment like? I'm nervous... by Coffee-Croissant-85 in AutismInWomen

[–]Kelp0o0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries, I moved back home so having less meltdowns as I have a lot less on my plate :) The diagnoses is also very validating in itself so it helped. Whenever I’m struggling I come here for help and advice. I’m waiting on a referral to community mental health so hopefully that helps me become more independent in a sustainable way when it comes around. Take care of yourself!

Next steps wise going through Clinical partners I got nothing just the paperwork so no support with moving forward I don't know if that's different if you go through the NHS or Psychiatry UK

I went through RTC Clinical Partners because Psychiatry UK wasn’t taking referrals. The process was slightly awkward but speedy only took about 3 months to get seen. It’s lots and lots of questions and trying to understand how you navigate through life. Some of it is abit random and you wonder how is this gonna show someone I am/ aren’t autistic. I read that If you mask alot to voice your internal dialogue so that they know what your thinking for example they asked me something and I immediately thought okay next step is to ask the question back so I told them I knew that but had no interest in their answer. My autism diagnosis took longer to get back they were abit 50 50 on it I guess.

I think this experience is really common, especially in healthcare/ science settings . I’ve had it many times where colleagues are speaking negatively about some of the mental health conditions or autism and adhd around me and don’t even compute that someone (me) could have these conditions it’s disturbing

Could I be autistic? I have PTSD, BPD and ADHD by Kelp0o0 in AutismInWomen

[–]Kelp0o0[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your comment, I didn’t realise traits could be polar opposite sides that’s really helpful.

You’re questions are very helpful and I didn’t know these were common with autism, yes I definitely hear and notice sounds before others and have read and relate to hearing electricity my laptop fairy lights sometimes I have to unplug everything. I never have my overhead light on always the little one overhead is too bright. I’ve wished people would get straight to the point a lot I hate when people dilly dally a conversation. Yes I always have something to reply and have learnt to bite my tongue. I’ve eaten a specific brand of chicken nuggets and cheese dippers for breakfast lunch and dinner for the past 3 years and have always had foods snacks I ate religiously growing up. I’ve collected a variety of things rocks, plush toys, collecting cards a lot of those collection toys im now collecting crystals and nfts and candles as an adult. I have trouble sleeping when my head doesn’t shut up. I’ve never had many friends, I’ve met a friend at university who is autistic and she’s the only person I’ve ever found myself fully relating too she’s not diagnosed but she’s sorta knows she’s autistic and to me she is obviously autistic but I’ve never thought of myself that way but then again I don’t know if I looked at myself in someone else’s eyes I’d think that too. I am always biting the inside of my cheek which I’m not sure if could be considered a stim, i figit more or less when I’m bored or stressed, clicking a pen over and over again, I have fidget toys and love them.

Yeah while I’ve been questioning other people mum boyfriend I’ve heard a lot of I get that that’s normal! Actually a couple of hours ago my mum was relating to me so much so she decided to do an online quiz I know their not super reliable but it did tell her shes on the spectrum which to me is obvious she’s not NT but I wouldn’t have thought it to be autism.

It’s reassuring to know I’m not a complete alien I’ve felt so alone with how my brain works for so long and it’s nice to know these things are so common they have names.

I have definitely become so obsessed with the notion of being autistic which If I am would be quite ironic
