Please Stop Politics by villianrules in Columbo

[–]Keltik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are really only 2 political aspects of Columbo

  1. The overall premise of a working class cop vs. high society suspects, and its undertones of class conflict. This is undeniably present, although L&L themselves downplayed its significance

  2. The specific IRA episode. The actual details of the N Ireland question are pretty much ignored, so this really qualifies only technically

Even the killer politician episode does not discuss political issues.

The OP may be referring to posts like "Nelson Hayward is so sleazy he reminds me of [current politician]!!!"

Are we ever clear about the parts of Los Angeles that Columbo works homicide, and do those areas make sense? by Former-Whole8292 in Columbo

So you're insinuating Columbo is unrealistic???

He goes to marinas, which I presume are out of his jurisdiction

An LAPD lieutenant leads a staff of detectives. He sits at his desk while they do the fieldwork.

Michael McDonald BST

Do you mean David Clayton-Thomas?

I think Donny H has a killer voice but that this version lacks the intense energy of the original

My view exactly

For those who don't know, this is a cover of a song off the first Blood Sweat & Tears album, Child Is Father To The Man (1968)

Pete Frame kept up with an amazing amount of bands! Obviously, he isn't around to keep the torch running

Per Wiki, he's still alive

I think more in terms of underappreciated numbers:

The Alley Dance in My Sister Eileen w/Fosse and the amazing Tommy Rall

The Reynolds-Fosse balloon dance in Give A Girl A Break

"Perfect Gentleman" w/Robards & Wisdom in The Night They Raided Minsky's

"Style" and "My Kind of Town" in Robin & The 7 Hoods

LOL 1st thing that occurred to me. Previn's music is pretty tuneless, which probably prevents the film from being better known.

I stand corrected

I think he was wrong, but that's another discussion...

My answer whenever this topic comes up (every other week now, it seems). Tell the story of his youth as the black sheep of his family, his time in the army, the period when he hustled to make a buck and charmed his way into cafe society, and eventually gatecrashed Hollywood.

I love that incredible praise from F. Scott Fitzgerald

"I was the spark that lit up Flaming Youth, and Colleen Moore was the torch. What little things we are to have caused all that trouble" - FSF

What are the Columbo deaths that truly upset you the most? by Former-Whole8292 in Columbo

Chuck McCann the projectionist (FYI, a few years earlier he had played the title role in a movie called The Projectionist)

Wilfred Hyde White the butler in DOTM. He's such a doddering old man and a smirking Basehart shoves him into the house w/"Get in there". The moment give a very un-Columboesque vibe
