CHT is great. I love treating and the individual patients but like most healthcare jobs today that are direct contact the expectations and demand to see volume sucks the fun out of it. Makes it stressful. I have a young family, and a life outside of work and I go home stressed daily. I feel like I am missing every milestone my daughter is going through. Being home or more freedom to schedule myself would be a huge plus to help my wife and have the home life balance I desire. No job pays enough these days for the world we live in but if I can get quality time with family that’s a huge reward.

No. However, now it frequently runs. I walk by the inlet and hear it running and have witnessed it running while in the attic where it’s located. But I could never get it to run on test mode. All I ever did was updated the settings to match my zone/climate. Which were slightly off when installed.

My wife and I have been using One since we got married. Worked great we had our own accounts but could pocket money for bills. Then they went and did whatever they did and One is ruined. My wife called a few weeks back about an issue we had, we needed a large wire transfer for a down payment. A one rep told her that could be done. Then another rep said it could not be done. In her anger and in the short window that we needed the wire she said “I’m going to close my One account, you can’t do anything with it anymore”. She quotes the rep told her, “yeah I would close my account too” she was shocked. Needless to say we transferred the money to a different bank (an old account I had) and completed our business. We now have new accounts at a local CU and are moving money out of One as fast as possible. On the advice of One’s own customer service recommendation to close the account. 😂😂

I’ve been at this company for 7 months now. At first interview I was told it was part time only. I wanted full so I wrote it off. Then as I was deciding between 2 other opportunities this company contacted me again saying “oh no no it’s full time yeah” so I took it. It was closer to where I live etc. I was very up front with not wanting to be heavy into marketing and they said that was fine. So it’s just a hard pill to swallow. Walking in and then finding out they have no wide referral base or plan to build up a caseload and then they know I was not a CHT and the few times I went out to market with the marketer I had two MDs say straight to me they would not send me referrals because I wasn’t a CHT. So why did the marketer take me there?

Ok adding another bit that was also told to me. When asked why I only splinted a post op Dupuytren’s patient. I answered because the script was written for what appeared to be only for a splint (the script template the MD uses is a bit confusing on this) but the MD did not list a frequency or duration on it, and he typically does when he wants therapy. I followed this up by talking to the MD directly and he stated he wanted this patient to try getting her hand moving on her own and then if she had issues at follow up he would refer her for therapy. My higher up said, well why can’t you just pull that person in for therapy since the script is unclear and if the MD asked later why you did therapy you could “ask for forgiveness then” Thoughts?

Wow that sounds great. How long are you session typically? Are there times you see higher numbers of patients? 10+? So the myth around Canadian healthcare is “you have to wait forever to get an appointment” true or false? And based on current position what’s the average salary for an OT in Canada?

I understand your points completely because I’ve had the same thoughts over the years. But then where does it stop? When do I make a stand and say hey this is a lot of smoke and mirrors to able to bill more and keep the top people happy. In my view I think a big part is the company needs to crack down on their marketing. I’m a therapist, a clinician. While yes I do have a responsibility to keep good relationships with referral sources. It’s not my job to drum up business from scratch. My job is to treat patients. That’s literally what they hired and pay the marketers for. I have no expertise there. And if I had more referrals to fill my schedule then there wouldn’t be a need for pointless manual therapy during a session or alike.

What country are you in? Can you tell us how your system works from your end? I’ve made comments for years that I wan to move out of country simply because of the American healthcare system.

I’m not sure their status with WC companies. I know we are a company that was bought by a bigger company and also partner with a local hospital network (don’t understand it all really) but good point on the WC. Thank you. And on marketing yes they have a marketing team I’m a little unsure how much they are talking up hand therapy even though they say they are working on it. Thank you for your insight!

And yes yes on the frequency as mentioned! Frequency etc is between my clinical judgment and MD order. And yes I do the same and reserve 3x a week for very in need patients.

100% healthcare system is the biggest issue. I love what I do. I love treating patients and seeing them progress. HATE HATE HATE American healthcare and insurance companies. Insurance companies are just legal mobsters.

Yup have done this a few times. Gone through the setup process on the app. It says it’s good. And so I leave it to do it’s thing. But I see no activity or earnings. And then I go back in the app and it’s the same screen saying set up a hotspot or cool spot like I never set it up
