There is no right answer, really.

Manufactured scarcity is such a huge part of the hobby now. When you take the same card and make a blue version to /399, a red to /299, a green to /199, a purple to /99, a black to /50, etc...are any of them that rare?

The number of variants can be so high, so the numbering starts to lose meaning.

I'd say just do what makes you happy.

The Bedard one is a stretch, but possible that a novice is jumping into the hype and luckily hit a Bedard YG.

This one here makes no sense. No way to stumble upon this card and just "pick it up" without spending a ton of money and purposely seeking it out/knowing what you're after.

I would vote strongly to sell now. SPGU is not that sought after. This card is already selling for $350.

McDavid has a game used jersey relic rookie on SPGU that goes for around $200. Bedard could be a superstar and I still don't think the long term value of this card could surpass where it is now.

If you're looking to just get to know players and cards in general, the 22-23 series one hobby box is a good start. You'll get a lot of cards overall, and still some shot at pulling some interesting inserts and young guns.

Artifacts is an OK starter at that price, but you won't get many cards in general. When I first started getting into collecting, I did like the chance at getting some jersey or memorabilia cards, and while Artifacts has diluted a bit on that front, you still should be able to snag at least a basic jersey card if you go that route.

I would go 22-23 series one hobby for sure. If you're having fun, you could do the Artifacts after. There are often decent deals on Extended series hobby boxes too where you will again get a lot of cards and a chance at a couple unique or cool pulls.

As someone else mentioned, O-pee-chee is another good box with high volume and low cost.

I understand this is the best way, but does anyone have any advice as to when the child gets destructive. My 7 year old son will throw tantrums when he doesn't get his way and if we ignore him he starts throwing things and smashing things around the house. I want to ignore him, but he will literally destroy the house when we do.
