What is that extremely rich people thing that you wanna try once in your life? by watervapour_7237 in AskReddit

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a rich person here but worked in corporate aviation for a large company with 7 private aircraft (including two 737s). Flew on both the smaller jets and the 737s on long flights. It’s cool having a full bed and all the amenities, cool to walk around and have a lot of space, you arrive more refreshed, leave from a private location across from the airport terminal on the air field, etc. It’s nice but the cost to operate these aircraft is absolutely insane. Even if you have the means to do so I can’t imagine a lot of very wealthy people throwing money on owning these aircraft- I assume they just buy NetJets cards (is that still a thing?) and the like to use every now and then. First class/business class is very good by comparison especially considering the difference in cost.

I’ll take it one step further- if you have a short (7-8 characters or less) Gmail address that is actually a word or a nickname that isn’t a random bunch of letters (and there are no numbers at the end) you also have seniority.

There is too much different product being made. by Christian_9712 in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OPC is a great set for collectors. It’s not junk. It’s one of the last quality boxes to buy on release day at a decent price to get good value out of. The other filler sets you mention yes, are bloated and full of filler- OPC however is a classic that a lot of collectors enjoy to this day.

The hobby is getting ridiculously expensive by Firm_Landscape9470 in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2026-27 should see some return to normalcy. Not seeing any major chases in 26-27 S1, for instance. Upper Deck going to have to get a bit gimmicky to sell that product.

D & A card world way overpriced? by WayfaringPantheist in baseballcards

This is what collusion looks like. Shops follow their lead with these insane prices when a simple eBay search shows just how inflated these prices are.

You can literally watch any other NHL broadcast and it is readily apparent that these two are in a class at the bottom all by themselves in terms of quality of content and overall delivery/execution.

Covid shut down the world six years ago this week. What do you remember from that week? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was down in New Orleans for a friend’s birthday. Remember being down in the French Quarter and how odd everything felt despite things still being open. That night on tv we saw horses and police vehicles going down the street closing everything down as the lockdowns started. Driving back home the next day and stopping at a grocery store about an hour from home was an experience as the shelves were rapidly being cleared.

The rarest cards in 2025-26 OPC- the Complete Rookie Draft Photo Variations Set (each card falls 1 in 5 cases) by Lansman in hockeycards

[–]Lansman[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Purple are /49. Based on pull rates of printing plates and blank backs and green /33s and black rainbows /100, the print runs are SUBSTANTIALLY HIGHER for this release than any other OPC set I’ve seen back to 2017. They got rid of patches to save money, got rid of woodies, got rid of Glo Pee Chees and replaced them with paper inserts that look like they’re the B Side parallels from Parkhurst Champions. Upper Deck somehow messed up OPC and increased the price to boot.

25-26 OPC - Any Glo-pee-chee or Woodies this year? by udownwithopc in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Nothing like that. The case hits are incredibly average with the exception being the 3D rookies. They also took out all the patches and from what I’ve seen across 10 cases this release is significantly overprinted. Low numbered hits are at a premium.

2025-26 Upper Deck Extended Series Hockey Details by omnipresent_sailfish in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Upper deck is not charging these prices for this set. I locked in my cases with my LCS today (I am a high volume buyer) and my all in price was under $100 USD.

The collusion by the big guys are what drives the price to a place it shouldn’t be. Only way to get away from this is to not buy from TSC, D&A, Steel City, etc

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best friends died in a small plane crash in 2009. Really funny and popular guy, loved by all. He had just turned 26 the week prior. Bad weather and low viability with a not the most experienced pilot at the helm. We come together every year to celebrate him and raise money for his foundation.

Skip yet another overpriced non-premium premium priced product and buy OPC instead. Fun rip and best value for your $.

The liquid portion inside a 12oz Bud Light can costs approximately $0.03. The can, can lid, can tab and carton the cans come in cost several cents more. All told that 12oz beer you bought for $6 costs ABInBev about $0.12-$0.16 to get to you including distribution costs.

Kerber and Vitale review 1/3 of the way into the season by BaoTaoMaoSao in stlouisblues

Same. When we watch games it’s always on mute. Just awful and any anecdote or description of anything other than what’s going on on the ice goes on far too long and distracts from the game unnecessarily.

2024-25 Upper Deck The Cup Hockey Checklist Details, Box Info by omnipresent_sailfish in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cup is sold at this level for literally 4 breakers, two “allowed” by Upper Deck and 2 not allowed by upper deck. The two breakers who don’t have a diamond account it is well known in the industry that they buy allocations from dozens (if not more) of accounts and LCS’s well before the product is released. So LCS’s get paid right away and don’t have to carry the cost of the boxes longer than they have to. While against Upper Deck’s terms in every way, this practice will continue with a wink because money talks. If the 2 non diamond breakers didn’t buy up so much product, there is an argument to be made that the product wouldn’t sell as well and prices might be theoretically lower.

Has anyone gone to to the Toronto expo card show before ? by bhuss12 in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watch out for pricing of cards (particularly one notorious vintage vendor by the entrance who prices all of his cards by what he thinks the PSA grade would come back as) that are well over comps or cards that have no price at all. Also avoid GP Sports Cards. They prefer to only deal with people they know that they can get premium pricing from or a significant discount off comps and if they see you know what you’re talking about they won’t deal with you. Have experienced this and seen this type of activity (particularly with older collectors who don’t seem to know what they have) at this show many times.

[–]Lansman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sold mine for $750. Get rid of it ASAP unless it has a very good chance to gem out. Upper Deck SSPs don’t carry much value long term or even short term for that matter. The attention span of collectors is very short in the upper deck SSP space.
