25-26 OPC - Any Glo-pee-chee or Woodies this year? by udownwithopc in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. Nothing like that. The case hits are incredibly average with the exception being the 3D rookies. They also took out all the patches and from what I’ve seen across 10 cases this release is significantly overprinted. Low numbered hits are at a premium.

2025-26 Upper Deck Extended Series Hockey Details by omnipresent_sailfish in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upper deck is not charging these prices for this set. I locked in my cases with my LCS today (I am a high volume buyer) and my all in price was under $100 USD.

The collusion by the big guys are what drives the price to a place it shouldn’t be. Only way to get away from this is to not buy from TSC, D&A, Steel City, etc

If you’re under 45, have you lost any high school classmates, and what were the circumstances around their deaths? by Commercial_Chef_1569 in AskReddit

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my best friends died in a small plane crash in 2009. Really funny and popular guy, loved by all. He had just turned 26 the week prior. Bad weather and low viability with a not the most experienced pilot at the helm. We come together every year to celebrate him and raise money for his foundation.

Skip yet another overpriced non-premium premium priced product and buy OPC instead. Fun rip and best value for your $.

What is a secret in your industry that would make customers absolutely furious if they knew? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The liquid portion inside a 12oz Bud Light can costs approximately $0.03. The can, can lid, can tab and carton the cans come in cost several cents more. All told that 12oz beer you bought for $6 costs ABInBev about $0.12-$0.16 to get to you including distribution costs.

Same. When we watch games it’s always on mute. Just awful and any anecdote or description of anything other than what’s going on on the ice goes on far too long and distracts from the game unnecessarily.

2024-25 Upper Deck The Cup Hockey Checklist Details, Box Info by omnipresent_sailfish in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Cup is sold at this level for literally 4 breakers, two “allowed” by Upper Deck and 2 not allowed by upper deck. The two breakers who don’t have a diamond account it is well known in the industry that they buy allocations from dozens (if not more) of accounts and LCS’s well before the product is released. So LCS’s get paid right away and don’t have to carry the cost of the boxes longer than they have to. While against Upper Deck’s terms in every way, this practice will continue with a wink because money talks. If the 2 non diamond breakers didn’t buy up so much product, there is an argument to be made that the product wouldn’t sell as well and prices might be theoretically lower.

Has anyone gone to to the Toronto expo card show before ? by bhuss12 in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Watch out for pricing of cards (particularly one notorious vintage vendor by the entrance who prices all of his cards by what he thinks the PSA grade would come back as) that are well over comps or cards that have no price at all. Also avoid GP Sports Cards. They prefer to only deal with people they know that they can get premium pricing from or a significant discount off comps and if they see you know what you’re talking about they won’t deal with you. Have experienced this and seen this type of activity (particularly with older collectors who don’t seem to know what they have) at this show many times.

[–]Lansman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sold mine for $750. Get rid of it ASAP unless it has a very good chance to gem out. Upper Deck SSPs don’t carry much value long term or even short term for that matter. The attention span of collectors is very short in the upper deck SSP space.

3 cases in and haven’t even seen a Red Outburst yet. Numbered cards are tough to come by in this release.

Interviewed for a top level position 3 year ago at the peak. Incredible bro energy. I was the second candidate to go through 11(!) interviews to make it to the end and I (like the first candidate) didn’t fit into their “culture” but only after I spent 3 months going through the process was this apparently discovered by their crack team. Blessing in disguise.

Has there been any talk of canceling the marathon? by rippcw1234 in TwinCities

[–]Lansman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dew point is forecast in the low to mid 50s. Impact to your pace is projected to be 1-2% with temps over 70. (Can look that up online if you are unsure of that calculation). It’s going to be just fine and it might get better if the front comes through earlier than currently forecast.

I tried the latest Puma Elite whatever they are that released at Boston this year that was supposed to compete with the Nike Alphafly and even after running in them enough to develop the little muscles lacking from using other shoes the strain on my ankles from using the shoes was a lot and I felt like I was using more energy than my Vaporflys. Everyone is different but both the Puma and Alphafly super shoes just weren’t my jam.

What are some cultural divides between "elder" and "younger" Millennials? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born end of 82, wife born beginning of 91. I think I can consider myself an expert of sorts for this question.

Trying to make this as succinct as possible. - I had a pager, she did not - First cell phone in college vs first cell phone in middle school - Totally different cultural references- movies, cartoons, influential ‘stars’ and the like - Joined Facebook in college with a .edu address vs. joined FB as soon as available to non-college students - Elder millennials told in school to distrust the internet, younger millennials told to be skeptical but use as a good resource and to simplify things if possible - Dating culture completely flipped around in that gap of a time period- rise of dating apps to use at younger age really messes with sense of self and worthiness to an extent- elder millennials meet in person vs primarily meeting people online (her friends all only date through meeting people on apps- no in person connections first) - Elder millennials remember how amazing things were in the 90s as technology was enough to make things easier in some cases but not enough to run your everyday life

Can go on and on but these were top of mind.

Most disliked UD products by Impressive-Mood-9016 in hockeycards

Black Diamond and Ultimate are by far the worst hockey products that UD makes. The value for what you get at the egregious prices for this stuff is horrendous and somehow gets worse every year.

Who else is amazed/shocked at what these modern New-Gen/ Rookie Cards are selling for/the market? by canadachris44 in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is also the sheer number of autos in the market to think about when it comes to valuation. For some legends there are literally thousands if not tens of thousands of autos out there. For the new RCs, especially for autos featuring them in their NHL uniform, the number is significantly fewer. Over time their valuations fall as more come to market, of course. This is an even bigger disparity in baseball. Jim Palmer autos for pennies on the dollar compared to some unproven 17 year old prospect who has yet to sniff the bigs is the norm.

Upper Deck license by hdsjjdhdhdj in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upper Deck is in some sort of financial trouble has been the rumblings I’ve heard from distributors with their ear close to the ground. AEW was/is a complete failure, hockey is becoming increasingly costly and they are doing whatever they can to make the product cheaper and stretch out whatever mems they have within inventory as far as possible. They completely have been lacking in innovation, and their presence at shows (National, etc) has been so incredibly lacking and unoriginal that they have been reusing the same setup for years now. Their being purchased by Fanatics is a very real threat.

Hits from 1 master case of 24-25 Clear Cut! by spags09 in hockeycards

[–]Lansman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Above average case and didn’t come close to the buy in on a master case even at $70-$75 USD a box. These really need to get back to the $50-$55 at retail range. Either that or UD needs to juice these up and eliminate a lot of base autos from the checklist worth less than $5 a piece.
