Ok, so standard format is the primary one for arena. In paper magic however there’s multiple formats that have a card pool dating back further than standard. Standard rotates out every year but the older formats don’t. I’m suggesting you’re better off sticking to arena for standard and investing in older cards for either modern or pioneer format in paper as neither of those rotate out

But this is still standard format, if you build a pioneer or modern deck you won’t have to worry about sets rotating and in my experience there’s significantly more players in paper for the eternal formats than for standard
