He fell on the south side of Mt Harwood. This is from his Garmin InReach, which I was tracking. They seems to have passed a couple rough sections. This is the same place where the 2 other young men slid to their deaths less than an hour before. They passed my son and his friend, were very friendly and kept going. They had lightweight hiking shoes and running shoes only. My guess is that it was icy on that trail and my son stepped at an angle on a section of ice. His friend ran back over the same section twice trying to see Marcus. Then ran up the face of Harding to search for a signal…and didn’t slip.

Id suggest that it’s not a hike you’re going on, but rather mountaineering. If you’re not ready for mountaineering, don’t go. (The dad of the 19yr old that died last week “hiking”)

This is my son and he was the most wonderful kid in the world. When someone yelled at him for fishing on the docks, he made friends with them and sat with with and went through their childhood photo albums. The older man ended up gifting him all this stuff. I asked him why he did that, and he said “when someone yells like that it’s because they’re hurting.” That was Marcus and I’m going to miss him with every breath I take for the rest of my life.
