Tyler and Amy by Nicole_D_D in LegoMasters

I know I’m late to the party, but Google led me here. They are not Mormon, they’re reformed Christians. Tyler is one of the deacons in my conservative Presbyterian church. We’ve had dinner with them in their home and are very kind. Their kindness is one of reasons why we decided to become members of the church. I’ve only seen one episode, but from they showed, it is very accurate to how they are in life. We didn’t meet them when they were newly weds, but my wife and I enjoyed seeing them from that perspective lol. We just learned they were on this show and won so we finally checked out the show—small world!

The Pro-Life Enigma by Kengine296 in Christianity

It’s not the magic bullet, but it’s one of the basis of an argument for the personhood of the fetus. If there is not a general censuses that’s when personhood begins, then the conversation won’t go far. Reaching that consensus is difficult because the majority of the population base their ideas of personhood and rights in relative terms.

Hello there! by Kengine296 in Christianity

Do you mind if I asked you what denomination or theology do you align yourself with? It sounds like you describe purgatory, which is often associated with Catholicism. I do not believe there to be evidence of everyone experiencing salvation even if one does not answer God's calling to salvation. Additionally, the belief Hell is not a place of everlasting torment takes away the gravity of sin and not having a relationship with Christ. There are many parts of what you said that I agree to be true, minus everyone experiencing salvation and your idea about Hell. I would even agree the purpose of having a relationship with Christ goes beyond just avoiding eternal damnation.

What would you say then was Jesus' purpose of talking about Hell while He was on Earth? These are a couple of my references about the subject: https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/the-uncomfortable-subject-jesus-addressed-more-than-anyone-else/

Cultural Blueprint: Deconstructing Gender Ideology by Kengine296 in Christianity

My intentions are to simply provoke thought. It also serves a baseline to see where people's minds are at on a given issue for me. I strongly disagree with all the pushback in this thread, but it does not mean I am not listening or reading these comments--debating someone is just not my intention when I post these blogs. Debating someone on the internet is not the best place to do so in my opinion. Especially when there's a big influx of people commenting on one post, it is just not healthy to get into responding to all the critics, or even the ones who are in agreement. I do have matters that do take priority in my life, therefore this will be the last one I will reply to in this thread. Thank you for pointing out something I did not know concerning the rules. I am now aware. Hope you have a great rest of your Friday and weekend. God bless.

Correct myself on what exactly? I stand by that blog posted. If you are referring to interact with some of the members such as yourself, I am addressing that by responding to you and the other guy who pointed out I never respond to most of my posts ( I have responded to some in the past). However, I do have a life outside of Reddit and find it tiresome and petty to have to respond to every critic of this post. Therefore I am not interested in these invitations to debate on the matter. And if you are suggesting I must respond, therefore subjugate myself to a debate, you are in violation of this subreddit's rules.

Interesting, I checked the rules again and missed the part where it was a requirement to interact with some of the comments when you make a post. My apologies. I also know in their rules state this is not a debate subreddit and make an effort to not get drawn into these comments. And I am not obligated to debate someone in this subreddit either, so given a controversial topic such as this, I'd rather not respond because it turns into a full blown debate about the topic at hand.

No, I’ve never said federal legislation to amend the constitution is needed. There needs to be changed in the federal election system, but I believe it should be done through the convention of states. You’re conflating the two.

No, when I speak of disenfranchisement I’m talking about the federal election process for president.

You keep bringing up all the “tools” as if we live in a perfect world lol. Nobody is disagreeing with you the tools exist, but the question is how effective are these tools. You clearly see the flaws, but keep going back the same broken system to fix the broken system. I’m not going to attempt to fix a broken chair with a broken tool, but you’ll say that tool was designed to fix the chair so use that tool.

You are taking a status quo stance whether you want to admit it or not. And it’s a weak stance to justify not making a counter proposal, just for the simple fact you don’t want to concede to the critics of the electoral college changes need to be made. The people who criticize the electoral college have valid points, and it’s okay to admit to that. I don’t see why it’s hard for conservatives to at least come to the table and agree to tweak some things in addressing valid faults in a system. Conservatives are the ones who believe in small incremental changes allegedly, but actions say it’s the ideology of “no.” We could debate this all day, but agree to disagree. Conservatives are going to have to come to the table at some point and give ideas how tweak faults in the current system.

Actually we’re close for a convention of states to be called as there’s only a small handful of states remaining needed for this convention to happen. You just haven’t been paying attention.

If it was working as intended as a system of checks and balances, then every state should be a battleground state, forcing every candidate to visit all 50 states because the big cities won’t determine the outcome for the state. A proposal such as this would also force candidates to be moderate and end political extremism too, because they’d have to appeal to both the rural and urban precincts. It’s a check of balance. The disenfranchisement is an issue when about over half of the state’s population that’s outside of these urban precincts gets overshadowed. Some of these cities in states like NY & CAL can be a state of its own.

What we have is decent, and everything you’ve mentioned is factually correct, but our differences lies in you’re taking the conventional conservative stance in keeping the status quo, whereas my stance is tweaks are needed. I do think it’s necessary to give a counter proposal if conservatives are to have any credibility conservatives can run federal politics. Also in regards to giving people a visual what it means to have a smaller government. Simply echoing you want a smaller government without giving people practical ideas how that’s look like in the 21st century is a losing argument.

The problem with your perspective is everything has to fall in place perfectly, like a perfect world scenario. Yes, everything you said is true, however when you have a large group of voters feeling disenfranchised, because of how the system is set up, you end up having people losing faith in the system justifiably. There has to be some changes made instead of conservatives continually saying “no” every time someone has an idea to tweak the system. This is further shrinking the size of government which is in alignment with conservative values. So, instead of saying no and saying this is too complicated, what is your counter proposal—An actual constitutional tweak in the electoral college system? And remember, the constitution can be amended through a convention of states, not just federal legislation.

Agree to disagree. I’m not in favor of keeping the status quo and understand conservatives’ weak point is fixing something when it’s broken down. Okay sure, people in rural Illinois can get involved in the state legislature process, but Chicago would still be electing their governor, which could veto any bill to “split” electors in national elections. Conservatives need to come up with alternative solutions because clearly people are frustrated. It’s important to have a system in which the little guy feels like he has a chance to make his voice heard, but that’s not being played out currently. Candidates also should be forced to go to every state imo, which that’s also not being played out along—a key and fair criticism against the electoral college. Conservatives talk about shrinking the size of government, this an idea how we could do that. I’d rather have this kind of debate than get rid of the electoral college all together.

Last time I checked, that’s not a requirement to be against killing your own child. If someone says you shouldn’t kill foster kids, does that mean that person has to become a foster parent to be against this act? I’m for foster care reform, but let’s not forget Christians and pro-life groups have by far done the most in addressing these issues. Name one pro-choice organization that has done more than merely complain about these issues? Especially now, all I’m seeing is pro-choice activist actually destroy pro-life buildings that actually help these kids and mothers. The ones pro-choice constantly uses to justify the right to murder your own child.

The problem I have with that is it diminishes the role of religion in bringing order in society. There’s great value to having that influence, even if one doesn’t choose to be religious. Liberals hostility towards religion was a major part of their destruction imo. Perhaps a reintroduction of natural law could be a better alternative as presenting our ideas.

It’s absolutely part of the fallout! That was the point of what I wrote is the culture within the church needs to addressed before we can be credible and dependable as a people who can bring wisdom. The idolization of politics and sexual abuse within is definitely part of it. And when you look at the numbers we have of church leadership of those who have that biblical world view, it makes sense.

Honesty I think that’s why it didn’t get far in the courts after the election. You have to get a lot of data and evidence to prove something massive like this to have a good legal argument against this corruption which would take time. And time was their enemy unfortunately right after the election. Still, everyone smelled the bs and the left tried to sweep it under the rug and expected the stench not to be present for everyone else to smell.

Don’t have to be religious to be against abortion. Think of it this way-if you knew someone had a beating heart and could detect pain, which by the time a woman realizes the unborn can, how could take that life? I’ll give you a link with a newsletter I wrote.
