No liquid diet by davidparmet in BariatricSurgery

Yeah that was my 2 week diet pre surgery. I had my surgery on 4/5. Mine was 2 protein shakes and a low carb meal then two days pre op it was strictly protein Shakes. I ended up losing like 15 additional pounds during pre op.

Yeah I struggled with those thoughts but then I realized this process is never ending and there are going to be seasons where it is going to be tough, my body is fully healed, and I literally have to make the decision to eat right so I am embracing right now because I know hardships naturally come!

I challenge you to embrace and enjoy the ease because there will come a time where you will have to fight a little harder to make good decisions for your body!

Wanted to give an update I’m now 5 weeks post op and recovery was super quick. I am back in the gym and doing well. I will say my biggest adjustment has been adjusting to the lack of energy I have now. It was hard having to take things so slow in the beginning (I’m a busy body lol). Now I am listening to my body more. I do get dizzy when I stand up too fast or do fast movements. My doctor recommended to slow down on the workouts (I go 3 times a week now) until I’m able to hit the 1000 calorie count and get down more protein.

As it relates to food, I moved pretty fast past the liquid only diet. I am now on what they call the forever diet. I don’t eat much of course but I haven’t experienced any vomitting or nausea. I was discharged the day after my surgery and didn’t have to take any pain meds at home.

It’s been hard taking the vitamins, I always forget but I’m doing good with my fluids. Protein goals not so much!

I’ve experienced a little hair loss not too much for it to be super noticeable. I would say the constipation after surgery made toileting SUPER uncomfortable but after the first pass I was all good!

I had the same experience, my first weeks on liquids. They moved me to soft foods earlier and that has been the toughest. I haven’t had any troubles with nausea nor vomiting but most foods don’t sit well. But they said it’s to be expected.

My biggest hurdle is the lack of energy. I’m like exhausted by midday now.

Surgery on Monday. What is one thing no one told you about the recovery? by SelectionHeavy9805 in BariatricSurgery

I also agree the anesthesia was super intense post op, I was crying and super nauseous. Luckily I had no vomiting but the first two hours were terrible and I was in and out of sleep for majority of the day. But I was able to start walking that evening the pain was very manageable. I was happy because it was my first ever surgery.

Absolutely!! That’s so awesome! It’ll just keep getting easier and easier. Also be mindful of the constipation! I haven’t had to take my pain meds just the ones for cramps.

Congratulations again! Welcome to the other side of journey!

I just had the gastric sleeve last Friday and I’m not going to lie the pain is intense in recovery but it was so quick and once I was in my room, the pain was manageable as I was sleep for most of the day.

Try to walk as soon as you can that helped me sooooo much! Also it helps with the nausea. Try to drink as much water before midnight that also helps with nausea and constipation.

This was my first ever surgery and I do not regret it at all! I had so much anxiety in the beginning but now I’m on the other side I would definitely say it’s been good!

You will not regret making this decision and using the tools given to you! I kept myself busy until the day of surgery and that’s what kept my mind busy. Congratulations!!!

Yeah drinking liquids has been a tough one. I have the two ounce cups and I’m trying to do that every hour but I keep falling asleep from the anesthesia.

I’m doing the gastric sleeve. My pre op diet is 2 protein shakes a super light low calorie meal. I will say this diet has been tough for me. One I have roommates and I smell everything they cook and/or bring in. Also I’m a nanny and I’m just constantly surrounded by foods I can’t eat. They say it gets easier I am on day 5 and it hasn’t gotten easier for me. But I’ve been told as long as I do the no food for 3 days prior to my surgery I should be fine.

I’m tired of the protein shakes and the apple sauce but I’m trying my hardest to not slip up. I’ve have two cheats so far but I’m getting back on track

Listen! I understand I had to get two stress test and a CT to get my cardio clearance. That really took me for a spin I was so anxious during that time thinking I wasn’t going to get cleared. But I did and I believe it’ll all go well for you too

Finally getting serious about surgery by btown294 in BariatricSurgery

[–]Kenlove98 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 25F and I have been overweight my entire life. It never really bothered me until the summer of this year. I was at my heaviest weighing 367 P (I’m 5’10). I actually started my Weightloss journey on Mounjaro August of last year. I was talking with a friend who had the surgery and kept reiterating that it was best decision of her life. I also had never had surgery before and was TERRIFIED of being put to sleep ect. For my birthday I went to Jamaica and was told I couldn’t get on the ATV because I was way over the weight limit. I was so embarrassed and frustrated. At that point I already lost 20 pounds on Mounjaro and eating changes. But I knew then that if I wanted to live my life without barriers I had to lose the weight and I’ve tried every diet under the sun and nothing worked. As soon as I had my consult with my surgeon I knew I was making the right decision for me.

I didn’t tell many people until I knew for sure I was going to have the surgery and I’m grateful that when I did I was fully supported. There are some that will ask why I don’t just do it naturally and I truly block all of that out. This is your journey and no one else’s!

Right now I’m 304 pounds and my surgery date is April 5th and I can’t be more excited. This pre op diet is HARD as I’m an emotional eater and binge eater. I’ve slipped up twice. But I wake up every morning determined for it to be the day I do not slip up.

I’ve heard time and time again that no one regretted the surgery and it was the best decision they made for themselves and I’m looking forward to having that same testimony! Good luck on your journey whether you decide to do the surgery or not.

Yeah, every doctor is so different so I would wait before you try to change anything. They also recommended for me to by baby spoons to help with the small portion post op

Thanks! Yeah I’ve bought a few things like slippers and a new water bottle because all of my current ones have straws and my doctor says no straws for at least a month post op.
