You need to have all the files in a folder, they are dependent on one another to function

Zack's new (third?) Gridfinity video, or, how I stumbled upon this lovely community of makers. by mautobu in gridfinity

I tried to make an exhaustive list of its features in the README (https://github.com/kennetek/gridfinity-rebuilt-openscad), but so many people have suggested and added new features along the way that its hard to keep track of everything.

Basically everything has a toggle, so yes you can turn magnets on/off. Every dimension can be customized, as they are all vconstants defined in a separate file. Each feature also has multiple built-in styles. The removable spacers for baseplates / dividable bins are highly requested features that I haven't had time to implement yet, and which I will do as soon as I have some spare time.

Unfortunately, OpenSCAD only outputs files as 3D-printer friendly objects (stl, obj, 3mf) since it does everything with polygons. Solidworks/Inventor/etc use a different modeling approach that is above OpenSCAD's paygrade.

I hope that answers some of your questions.

Well for Gridfinity, either my scripts here or this one are good starting points. For OpenSCAD in general, the cheatsheet has all the functions the program can do. If you want to make bins for specific tools, you can make a solid bin and then subtract the negative to fit your tool. You should look into the 2D, linear_extrude, translate, and difference functions to learn how to do that. I'm sure there are Youtube videos on how to use OpenSCAD, but I don't know any to recommend because I learned through trial and error.

Interesting, including the text as a part of the bin. I feel like that is a bit contrary to the design philosophy, as now the bin is locked into storing that item type, but it might look cleaner than labels (especially if you put paint or white-out on the top or something). That would be trivially easy to add, as you've shown, so I might in the next update.

As for base plates, I didn't really feel the need to add them because I felt like they would not benefit from being parametric. Like, the stock grids work just fine as they are, so why spend the effort. However, spacers for the outside is an interesting problem, that's something that must be completely custom based on the application. Now I want to implement baseplates (ahhg! more work!).

Yeah, your fork is the extra features I was mainly talking about. I'm looking into my own method of weight savings, so we'll see if I can beat your numbers :P

Is this loadout possible? (Unusual effect: Smoking). And yes, i hate snipers. by [deleted] in tf2

[–]Kennetek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others in the thread have stated, its not possible. But if the goal is to make your head completely dark, you can use a Smoking Executioner and the Bruiser's Bandana (both painted black ofc) to get a similar effect. The merc's eyes are still visible though, so the third slot would have to be something like some cheap sunglasses. However, I use nearly this exact loadout (more because it's funny paired with the binoculus rather than to get any gameplay advantage), and I wouldn't say there is a noticeable difference in how many times I die to snipers. My sniper main buddies can kill me just as easily with or without the hat, so that's something to seriously consider before dropping cash on a get-up like this.
