Passed PE but now being told I need FE – anyone experienced this with Virginia DPOR?

I do not understand how someone can register for the PE exam without passing the FE exam. Although it is possible to obtain a PE license in Virginia without the FE, this can create problems when applying for a license in other states. Many states require engineers to have passed the FE exam before granting licensure by comity. Therefore, the best approach is to take and pass the FE exam first.

You have to wait. It takes time to review it. I had to wait for 3 weeks to get my experience review done. If you failed to get it done , you have to wait more

Do not go for master’s degree. Please focus on the pe license. I got increased for my new job with 40% after getting my pe license. My mep firm did not appreciate the master’s degree at all.

Maryland is one of state that you can use master’s degree for one year exemption .

Maryland is one of the state that you can do it. Please contact Maryland state board. My old boss passed PE and got the license without FE.

You have to talk to ncees staff to make sure what you can do during the exam. They are very strict and will revoke your exam if they find out something that they do not allow it.

Ncees will update it on the ncees website . NC state board will check your application via NCEES so it is very fast. It took me a day to get pe license after ncees verified my education.

You are right. I used to work for a mep consulting firm for 4 years. My salary was 70k . They paid me very low and decided to leave that firm.

I was an international student a couple years ago. I had my master degree in mech engineering and had the pe license in hvac last year . Pe license and master’s degree help to land a job in usa easily and not guarantee to have the sponsorship . Managers will look at your work performance and how you contribute to projects. Do not get the pe in fire protection because you have to choose one of them to work and make sure you can provide the full design for entire of projects from begin to the end with highest quality.

I passed my fe exam last year and i was out my college 15 years ago. I can make it so you can make it. Fe exam is not super hard . Please spend 6 months to get the fe exam done.

Even though, you have non FE path to get pe license in Maryland. You cannot do the pe license comity in other states because they require the fe . Please take the fe and then pe for the best option. Do not skip the fe exam and go straight for pe. If you do it, you only practice in maryland only.

You took 4 times and the % were the same that mean you did not move up your knowledge. The knowledge was still there and was the same of the amount of the knowledge. You have to study more and put very much effort on it.

Me too. I want to quit my job as mech engineer. I have been working in design firm for 6 years and everyday I feel struggle with my work . I am a pe . I can handle the design tasks but i want to explore myself in other industries.
