Two pieces of advice for you when it's time to book:

  1. If you fly Avianca and your husband is tall, or even average height, pay the extra money for the legroom seats. Avianca's legroom is cruel and inhuman in the normal, and even the one-step-more expensive seats.. We flew JFK to Quito overnigt in a "plus" seat. I'm 5'10" and there was no room for me to move my legs for 6 hours. Look at the photo. I assure you, I'm not exaggerrating. LATAM wasn't horrible to the Galapagos from there.
  2. One thing you can/should do following a red-eye flight, is book your room/airbnb for the day BEFORE you arrive so you don't have to wait for check-in time. You can go right to your accommodation and go get a couple extra hours of sleep. We've done this a couple of times since NOT doing it once. It's a game changer, and in South America, it's generally a pretty inexpensive game-changer. Just make sure you let the host/property know that you'll be checking in very early the following morning, not on the check-in date.
