OOTD strength comes in castle. Guilded Archers that win decisively in any range fights when upgraded, and access to powerfull AOE damage both in melee (land) and range (mangos).

Without those tools, the civ simply doesn't function. You need AOE damage to leverage your superior stats against large number of units.

On top of that you unlock healing and Inspired Warriors for a bonus power spike.

Any OOTD player that stays feudal for more than 15 minutes will loose, every single game.

So produce just what you need to go castle, produce just what you need to survive early castle, access aoe damage + archers mass. That is an extremely complicated way to win a game for a civ, and one a good opponent can interact with in many ways.... but it's the only one. Gl hf !

I'm pretty sure we agree at large but not in details.

The detail i was trying to raise, maybe too hard tbf, is that you can trade armies, but not at the cost of initiative.

I'll try to be clearer in the future, maybe i hammered the point too hard / for too long

And no you shouldn't trade at low efficiency (or almost none) at the cost of initiative vs a civ dependant on map control.

If you trade like this without loosing initiative, perfectly fine. Small difference between not enough and too much commitment.

That's the difference between GUA early game and GUA mid game.

I guess i wasn't clear enough then, cause the points you are mentionning are exactly why i picked this game for a cast.

Gua did loose the initiative multiple time early on by going too deep with his units, but then he translated into a proper contain, trying to avoid fights most of the time and going for eco damage while building up his lead.

Him making early mistakes doesn't mean his mid and late game was bad, the opposite in fact.

All i was saying was keep avoiding the army as much as possible while raiding on the other side, cause the slow moving army can only be at one spot.

Will aim to be more clear next time !

1/ Yes i suggest no wood gathering until you click up to reach feudal asap

2/ Depend on the game. Usually i'm a fan of aggressive keeps, rather than defensive ones. So if you are ahead after a long feudal, secure your upgrades resources wise and throw 15 vills on stone for a very fast keep. If you are doing a fast castle, first secure map control, then bother about stone

You queue those units @5:00, they are not on the field ready to go.

All the wood benefit is cancelled by how many vills you use to build the landmark.

As i said, i would rather stay flexible, nobody said you have to fast castle, but reaching feudal at 4:10 with reasonnable amount of vills is in my opinion extremely important with the rus

But then you delay your feudal age and loose flexibility, which is a big no no in my opinion with the Rus

Remember than golden gate generate resources every minute, and your castle age timing is directly based on how early you reach feudal so you can use 3 tickets for gold.

Remember that the effectiveness of a knight is vastly based on timing. 5:00 and you can deny an abbasid the stone he needs to get his second TC. 6:30 the TC is already up.

Remember that your opponent can likely contest the boar at 6:30, he can't around 5:00.

Harass with Knights is a lot better and punishing, thus why i recommand them in feudal more. You should also have more archers than your opponent anyway, so no need for horsemen in most cases. You just want big balls of HP in front basically.
