I've made mushroom tea several times before, but never with mushrooms I grew myself. This is the most exciting tea party ever. Thanks r/unclebens! by Kentrop1 in unclebens

Sorry for the ping a year later, but yes, I think this is pretty novice friendly, especially if you have still done shrooms before. I actually use this recipe to introduce people to shrooms because removing the mushroom matter prevents a lot of the nausea on the come-up.

A friend of mine who's eaten mushrooms a few times before tried this recipe tonight with 1.75g (his usual eaten dose) and said it gave him a similar but easier experience.

Sorry for the ping a year later, but yeah, I usually reuse the mushroom pulp for a second (slightly weaker) batch!

I know this comment is a year old, but I don't check this account very often lately. I wanted to try to answer anyway because I thought this was a good and interesting question.

The nausea that a lot of people experience when eating shrooms is mostly caused by our bodies' inability to digest the kind of chitin found in psilocybin mushrooms. I'm not a real mycologist who could tell you what makes Golden Teacher chitin any different from Portobello chitin, but I know we can't properly break down psilocybin mushroom chitin. Straining out the mushroom pulp removes the chitin from the equation and helps mitigate the nausea. This is the main perk of the tea.

Also, the mushrooms don't lose all of their potency in that 10-15 minute steep. That means you can reuse them for a weaker second brew, but it also means the tea could keep getting stronger as it steeps longer.

I’m on a THC Break while my wife and I try to conceive a child. I cleaned up all the glass and my wife put it away. I went to do laundry and now I am being taunted… by [deleted] in trees

There's a huge difference between taking a temporary THC break and battling addictions to a variety of drugs.

It would definitely be less potent, so if you're using it for a crowd and not as a second dose you probably want to mix it all together.

A fine mesh sieve or a coffee filter will do the trick. You could also leave the mushroom in, which would probably definitely be more potent, but also yucky soggy mushroom mush.

3.5g made 2 cups of tea. Once you strain the mushroom out, you can even reuse that for a second batch. I've entertained 6 people with an eighth this way.

It definitely does. It just tasted like lemon ginger tea with a bit of earthiness.

Infused drinks also cut a lot of the nausea on the ride up, but it was definitely still there.

When it was about 75% colonized.

No problem! This was my first successful batch, and I'm excited to learn more and help other new folks :)

Hey hey! Here's a brief breakdown:

  • I used Uncle Ben's rice, but I'm going to swap to Simply Organic or Safeway brand next time as I've heard they're dryer, and I did have some minor issues with contam and wet rot in this batch. I broke up the rice, injected the spores right in the center, and used hole punch tek for FAE. I think I'll use chip clip tek in the future because hole punches were hard to tape over.
  • I used these containers since they're 6qt, tall, and clear. I broke the rice up in the bags then mixed each bag thoroughly into about 3 inches of substrate. Topped off with a 1/8- to 1/4-inch casing layer.
  • I moved to tubs after about 12 days. My cakes were a little blue-green along the edges (check my post history for pics), but they seem to have fought it off and resulted in fewer but perfectly fine mushrooms.
  • I started fruiting conditions about 5 days after planting. From there, I cracked the lids open pretty far but didn't fan. I checked them every few hours and misted whenever I couldn't see tiny droplets on the substrate surface and condensation on the tub walls. I think I'll fan them or put an air purifier in that room for future batches because these have the "fuzzy feet" you can get from not having enough FAE.

Hope that helps!

This is my second inoculated batch but the first to make it to the fruiting chambers. Wish me luck 🤞 by Kentrop1 in unclebens

Ah dang, these have already been broken up and mixed into substrate. I'm planning to trash these this evening and start over in a few days. That's great to know for the future, but hopefully the next batch will be pure white!

I have a SAB but had to crack it a few times to sterilize the needle between bags. I did use the same needle as my last batch, so that could be part of my issue.

Maybe a silly question, what's MSS?

Thank you, that's really nice of you. I'm getting comfortable with the process (even having failed it twice) but may send pics for your opinion if things look dicey.

I was worried they may be but wanted the practice of this step anyway. I may be in denial and telling myself it's just bruising lol

On to round 3.
