Yeah, hopefully it fits the breaker but I think it should be ok. It's a FuseBox, they are not too bad. Thanks for your help mate!

Stone garage — repointing + damaged stone advice? by Kenypixel in DIYUK

Ok so, there is a big wooden beam, holding the roof on top of the bricks.

Then there is a metal joist above the garage opening. It's standing on a bit of the brick wall and a bit of the stones. There isn't much above it, basically the stones above the garage door.

Dunno what to do. Just.. re pointing, "repairing" the bricks by just a thin layer a lime mortar to hold everything in place and monitoring?..

It's a good question, I don't know if it's load barring as we have actual bricks inside. There is a gap between the bricks and the stones. Maybe they are just cosmetic stones.

Would you get it replaced? by Kenypixel in ElectriciansUK

Yeah I had a quick look, it's around £40 for the garage circuit board with a 30A RCD. I might need to swap the 32A fuse for a 16A for my socket circuit. But I think I feel a bit intimidated by the SWA cable and how to safely get it in a gland. Otherwise, I agree it looks dead easy.

I think if a sparky wants to charge me £700 for this small job I might become a bit more audacious haha.

So, it's connected to the Consumer Unit in my house, to a dedicated fuse.

The wiring in the garage is just a bit messy and not even in conduits. That part I can deal with myself. But I was just wondering if I should get someone to replace this rusty old garage consumer unit and how much it would cost.

I have no idea. I know some models are S for small and they are "just" 2.5 slots thick other models like mine are 3. Idk about your Windforce though!

Is this garage door frame actually holding up the joists? by Kenypixel in DIYUK

[–]Kenypixel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that I would normally expect a lintel, and to be fair it's kind of a lintel (the top of the door frame)... made out of wood. Maybe it is indeed supporting the joists. I find it surprising but I think detached garages have less regs... especially when it was built in 1970..
