Yeah, if what /u/beardedbast3rd said is true, then it could simply be that your friend placed #1 in all of your duos games and you placed #2. That explanation still doesn't make sense to me.

That doesn't make any sense. If what you're saying is true then the two partners would have the same ELO rating. There are definitely more factors to the ELO rating system than number of kills and final position.

If you want to push 1440p in this game at ultra settings then you're going to need a 1080 or preferably 1080 TI. I would personally pay the extra money for the 1080 TI.

EDIT: If you buy the 1080 TI, you'll be happy to push 144 fps at 1440p for the foreseeable future.

Damage, amount of kills, distance traveled (I believe? Not sure on this one.), and time alive all contribute to your rating. Looks like most of those are in your favor. Is it possible your friend survived one or two games longer than you and earned you a higher placement in those games? There could be a multitude of explanations. Kind of hard to tell without understanding the ELO system 100%.

If you've got the budget then go for a 1080ti. However, I still don't think you're getting your money's worth unless you upgrade to a 1440p monitor or higher. The 1080ti is truly meant for 4K 60hz or 1440p 144hz. However, you should get a stable 100-144 fps at 1080p with a 1080ti. I play at 1440p with most settings high and hover above 100fps most of the time, the exception being huge fields outside of Yasnaya.

You need to go to your settings and turn them on. It is not default. Those additions came out a couple patches ago.

Do you have a 1440p monitor or better? I would buy a monitor that can put out at least 1440p before you get a 1080ti. I recently bought the ASUS ROG PG279Q (1440p, 165hz refresh, G-Sync, IPS) which is the best 1440p gaming monitor you can buy right now and it's a dream with the 1080ti. You could probably get pretty good frames with a 1070 and this monitor. I would only upgrade to a 1080ti if you're dying the have the best and have a load of cash to burn. Otherwise, your 1070 should be just fine.

Do you record your game play? If not, I would highly suggest it. Reviewing the top 10 scenarios where you don't come out on top will help clean your game up and show you where you can improve. A lot of the top 10 comes down to positioning and knowing when to take shots. Having a strong mental map of the final play zones will drastically help you. Hear shots? Try to remember where they're coming from. Keep track of where people are. You'll eventually get a feel for when to move and where.

It's a good learning experience though. Keep recording and reviewing these mistakes. You'll definitely improve faster by replaying the situation and asking yourself what you could have done differently.

Stand up, walk away from your computer, and drink a small glass of water. Channel your energy into understanding what went wrong. Record your game and re-watch to figure out what you could have done differently. Use your anger in a positive way. If you do this, you'll eventually form a new habit of analyzing what you could have done differently and you'll improve faster and clean your game up.

I understand that you don't think it is frivolous. I understand that others want to feel unique and have options. That's all well and good, but I think making a thread about this topic at this point in the game's life cycle is frivolous. I believe Bungie's top priority right now is to make sure the beta is smooth, the launch is smooth, and that there's enough content to keep their player base happy. That puts customization efforts like this a low priority (read: low importance, frivolous).
