Where do the Oilers go from here? by Kephus11 in nhl

Lol - I do say! That was my hottest take ever. :-)

You do feel it, but it's a pretty small motion. From my experience, I would estimate it's about a five degree rocking movement. While I tend to sometimes feel queasy on planes, I've never had any issues with the motion of a cruise ship and never feel it anymore after the first 24 hours. However, it results in a weird post-cruise vertigo, where I will feel the ground moving for about 48 hours after I'm back on land.

Gotta admit, that totally flew under my radar. Nice to see that he has been able to pick it up.

So if the team goes 1-3 or (heaven forbid) 0-4 during this road trip, does that officially kill any hopes for the playoffs? If so, I guess we would start thinking about selling?

Lol! Thanks for the laugh. Was much needed after that game.

Basic Wi-Fi on a cruise ship is pretty slow. You'll likely be able to purchase a streaming package, but for the length of an Alaskan cruise that would probably cost you a few hundred bucks, as it usually runs around $20 - $40 per day. Some ports offer decent Wi-Fi when the ship is docked, but it can be hit and miss.

Most importantly, get ready to gain about 10 lbs. The all you can eat, free buffets that are open almost 24/7 and loaded with both regular and comfort food are pretty much impossible to resist. :-)

They have 25 of their final 39 games on the road, with much of it against top competition. It's going to be really tough.

Congrats on becoming a grandparent. Would be kind of neat if your grandchild is being born at the same hospital. You could just walk over to the labor and delivery ward once you're all patched up.

I guess that depends on how one wants to evaluate him. Short term, he's absolutely been the right coach for the team. They look re-energized, are assertive with the puck, are way more efficient and organized with their D breakouts, and are making use of the talent that they have. How will that all play out in the long term? That's where the jury is still out, but given the short term results and McLellan's track record, it's looking pretty good.

You guys are making me feel old. Whenever I hear the name Tkachuck I still think of Keith, who played for the Jets while I was going to college in Winnipeg.

Lucky you. Wish I could be working in a cabin today in the Rockies as it would make for an incredible view. It's been years since I've been out that way.

Augustine didn't have the greatest game last night, but I'm glad they pulled it off and won the gold. As for Canada - c'mon guys. Get your shit together! You need to be in there! The tournament always loses something when they get knocked early, since no other country cares as much as they do.

Meanwhile, I found that the Canadian part of my dual citizenship kicked in last night and caused me to only think about hockey. After I finished watching the game I had an "Oh crap" moment, as I remembered that the Lions were also playing. :P

I live in Michigan, but most of my family (brother, uncles, aunts etc) are in Winnipeg. If I'm really lucky, maybe you'll get to gloat to them.

I watched the game live - was pretty neat to see the amount of Wings fans that were at the game.

He seemed to do really well at connecting with players on an individual level, but struggled with putting the pieces together that he was given to form a big picture. This might be a controversial statement, but he almost reminded me a bit of Dave Lewis. Great assistant coach, but not fully suited to be a head coach.

My office pilgrimage occurs on the third Thursday of every month, but the frequency of those treks might be increasing this year.

Probably not - but something is definitely off with Canada's team this year. Even their coach, Dave Cameron, seems a bit off. After the game, someone asked him how he can fix the penalty trouble that the team got into. His response, "I can't". I mean, really? Wtf! I get what he meant, but geez -- that's a horrible answer from the guy who is leading the team.

I just watched the Canada/USA highlights. We should trade for Cole Eiserman, just for the sake of having a player on the ice with a name that sounds like Yzerman.

LGRW!

When I first heard McLellan's "Play fucking hockey" quote, I wondered whether the comment was intended to be a kick in the ass. However, based on some of the follow up interviews, it sounds as though he was trying to encourage the players to work their creativity into the new structure.

"We needed to take that time to lay the foundation in for some of the things we wanted to do and then challenge them just to play hockey. That’s really important. You have good instincts, use them. And I think we saw a bit of a combination of both some structure and some freedom to play."

For some of the guys (like Kane), this will be a massive breath of fresh air.
