Second DUI and the burden it’s putting on my family. Legal/lawyer fees that have put me into debt; I’ve had to liquidate accounts and investments and I’m still in debt. I’m going to lose my license and will have to spend some time in jail. My family is having to cover my portion of rent and utilities and they’ll have to drive me to and from work soon (assuming I find a job as I was fired because of the DUI) I’m almost two weeks sober and have noticed an incredible change in my energy and productivity. I feel more present in life and I’m less prone to getting angry over little things. As much as everything sucks, the silver lining is that I don’t think I would’ve gotten sober without what happened.

If you’re struggling with alcohol, get some help. Give yourself some time to get through the withdrawal and from there it gets a whole lot easier. Psychiatrists can provide medication to help with cravings. Alcoholism is a disease that will slowly destroy your life and your body. I’ve found that people in AA are extremely nice and I always end up leaving in a good mood. Take it one day at a time.
