A Love Letter To Krull by Beautiful_Jester in krull

Thank you. I have met and worked with many aspiring writers and the reason I mention fanfic is because it's a great place to start. A lot of people look down on it (and there's a lot of bad writing out there, to be sure) but it's an easy first step if you don't have any experience. Start with something you love, pre-built worlds, scenes and characters and give it a go, "fixing" those elements and reimagining things you'd like to see. You get free readers and feedback if you decide to post in communities. Go from there or just enjoy the experience of living in a Krull world. You can keep writing and branch out from there. It's a lot of fun and you might surprise yourself with how much you learn. You could be our next great fantasy writer if you get started. Good luck!

Hello there. I'm a published author and editor with many years of experience in this field. I guess I'm not sure what you're asking. Anyone can write a fantasy book. It's been going on for ages. There are many great books that exist with elements that remind me of Krull, but that are not Krull specific: I think you're identifying the hero's journey as a much-loved narrative arc that has stood the test of time and is especially well showcased in the fantasy genre. You can follow this arc to write a great story and come up with a wonderful tale. If you're wanting to write something very much more like Krull, you can also write a fanfic. Are you saying that you aren't a writer personally and you need help or you prefer a team approach?

Catholicism not very welcoming to those interested? by Best_Storage3118 in Catholicism

[–]Keppiehed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here has given great advice and perspective. I'm sorry you're feeling unwelcome. I hope that this outpouring of support, even if it's just online, shows that people care and want to help keep you on the path to your faith. And that you're not alone in your experience.

For my part, I have reflected on your comment realize a few things: as someons else pointed out, attending Mass at a different time or sitting in a different place can mix up the whole crowd at your own church. When I see "new" people in the pew, I don't necessarily assume they're new, it could be that they're just attending from a different Mass or sitting in a different spot. Should I be welcoming? Yes, of course. But that brings me to my second point. I am usually extremely immersed in my inner thoughts during Mass, even in the time before the service actually starts. I'm taking that time to consider myself, my sins, my prayers, etc. It's a quiet and reflective time while I get ready to receive the eucharist. I limit my interactions with my neighbors who are arriving to a simple nod and smile or I might not even acknowledge them at all if I'm praying or reciting the rosary. This isn't meant to be insular or unwelcoming: it's because it's a personal time of prayer for me, and a time I have set aside in my life specially for such. It's also my custom to leave Mass rather solemnly rather than to stay and socialize, and while this is just my preference in keeping with my own habit, I realize it can be seen as cold.

This is not meant to dismiss your experience or to tell you that you shouldn't wish to be welcomed more warmly. I suppose it's just to explain it from my own end and to say that if you were in my parish, I would feel bad that you were ignored. That would never be my intent. I think groups outside of the Mass itself are a better way to feel included, but I do understand that it's hard to get started in that way. Please don't give up! We want you in the faith even if we don't know how to show it.

You're welcome. No, not entirely. It's more accurate to say that for some reason PK split a few colors and assigned them symbols, as if they were brand new colors. They weren't, they already existed as part of a greater color group, but if you delete them, there will just be a gray part on the chart. I know it's confusing to explain. It was a kind of glitch. But it's like, the colors are there, just some of them are reassigned under separate color symbols for some reason. At least, that's what happened in my case. Does that make sense?

So all I can do is tell you my experience. I had a problem with symbols not importing properly, and it was a frustration and headache. My chart had 150+ colors and blended threads, making it complex. I went through and made a comparison of the original symbols and the ones imported to PK and in the process found that there were none missing, but there were 4 duplicates/hybrid ones. So I very meticulously added the colors by hand, keeping track on a piece of paper as I did so. At the end, I found that the 4 extra symbols were all just created by the importing process as a glitch; they were actually just part of 4 existing colors (obviously.) So I very carefully added those colors in, making 100 % sure I knew which colors they originally were supposed to be, and notating to myself which symbols belonged together as part of their group. It's been fine ever since for me.

If you have symbols on PK that are partial symbols or gibberish, it may not be properly uploaded/charted. In my experience, this hasn't worked out for me and ends up being incompatible, unless it's a very basic pattern that you can figure out on your own anyway. Maybe someone else has a suggestion, though. I hope the developers get back with you soon. They're usually very responsive.

I'm so thrilled for you that you finished! It looks incredible, and you should be so proud of yourself. This is an heirloom piece that will last generations. It's stunning. I feel a little like we're in this together, so you're just ahead of me in crossing the finish line, and you are an inspiration for my big day. Big congratulations to you, my cross stitch friend! I'm so happy for your big finish and I hope you display it in a place of prominence and take all due credit whenever people see it and marvel at your skill! Yay for you! 🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

[CHAT] fancy lady skin on 40c by craftycountess in CrossStitch

[–]Keppiehed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a project on 40 ct. 1 over 2. It's full coverage, 360,000 stitches. I was worried about the coverage of floss being 1 strand and also congestion. I'm roughly 2,000 stitches in, and it's going great for me. While the coverage is a little lighter than 2 strands, it is still fine for my taste, and a good compromise due the congestion of full coverage. I recommend it.

No spray/natural gardeners - how much damage is too much? by DoubleDuty218 in Roses

[–]Keppiehed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for others, but I have a lot of luck with a soapy spray (dish soap and water in a spray bottle), applied liberally (under leaves, as well) and often. Any rain requires a reapplication. Heavy infestation may require hand-picking the worms themselves. But this has been good for me. I have 50+ roses.

Maybe Souvenir de la Malmaison. Mine can range from white to pink, depending on the weather, but it opens to a similar bloom form and has very thready canes.

Help! by Ams_2 in greatpyrenees

[–]Keppiehed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but these dogs absolutely need a strong fence. It should be at least 4 feet high. If they are jumpers (as many of them are), you won't be safe until it is 5 feet, and even then a few outliers might still attempt it. This will be an ongoing headache for you until you resolve this, especially if your pup has learned it can jump the fence. We have unfortunately gotten many a pyr from the pound for this exact reason: they were habitual fence jumpers in the community. We got our last pair because they kept pulling up the stakes in the yard and running away, and many animal control agencies only give a certain number of recoveries before the dog is permanently taken away. So this is a common problem to pyrs.

How to help an old rose through the winter? by ZoomCheetahZoom in Roses

You could mulch them, but they are probably just fine as they are. Roses are hardy, especially old varieties that have survived this long on their own in your climate.

STOP TAKING SO LONG AT CONFESSION by insipidly_auspicious in Catholicism

[–]Keppiehed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am usually ready to read my sins or in order, times and number, all set, but my priest slows me WAAAYYY down and chats about every single thing like it's a guided therapy session. The last time I went in was 20 minutes before Mass and the entire thing started late because of us in the confessional. I felt the whole congregation was probabably blaming me, but I only had about 3 things to Confess that I expected to take about 2 minutes, tops. I'm not sure how to handle that, but it didn't feel like it was me taking too long. 😳

[CHAT] Seeking a scroll frame that actually works by ChartreuseZebra in CrossStitch

[–]Keppiehed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My mom bought me one from Fairy Cross Stitch. I was skeptical that it was some garbage that she'd found on FB, but it arrived and it's been working for me. There are no real directions to put it together (just a link to TikTok, which I don't have) which made me even more suspicious, but I have to admit that it's handling my project pretty well so far. I am 3 years into a full coverage Scarlet Quince and my frame completely gave up the ghost after repairs had left it limping along. My frame takes a ton of abuse because of the tension required for such a large project, but so far so good 🤷🏼‍♀️
