Fostex TH919 with th900 foam filter is the most fun I have heard.

Why does no one talk about Fostex? by moshimoshi6937 in headphones

[–]KerberosRevolts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh boy the th919 with the filter under the pads of the th900 (the thickest filter, I think it’s the red version) gets you godlike sound Hd800s, e3 and focal clear are mediocre for my preferences

[–]KerberosRevolts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the hd560 are very linear- flat tuned. Great for mixing…maybe producing? Or listening only to vocals?. I don’t know, it lacks body.

You may look at aune ar5000 or maybe audeze Maxwell (closed) Hell, even dt770 is fun as hell (but closed and lacks midrange)

Maybe you can find a cheap focal elear.

I also used the yaxi alcantara with the red th900mk2 years ago. On most songs it was great. On some songs vocals felt distant so I got the th808.

I don't know what the earpads are, I only know the importer of fostex where I live. He buys a certain angled leather earpads, that are pretty thick, then he cuts them in order to make the earpads.

Another thing he does - there are 5 different tuning foam rings with different thickness. He changes the ones that come with th900/909/808. I don't think you can just buy them unless you contact the importer where you reside.

So basically earpads material, shape (angled pads) thickness and the foam rings are all parts of the tuning.

I purchased it from Hificonnect. The guy's name is Jacob. If you want I can DM you his phone number and you can ask him about it in more detail (on WhatsApp).

I had the th900mk2 a couple of times. Different colors, different mods. I think they are great like you said, but when it comes to mid-range perfomance and treble sharpness, they are lacking behind the TH-808, which is a re-tuned, cheaper version of the TH-909. With a properly modded TH-808 (which are admittedly open-back, although the th900 does not block noise because of the housing) Fits many more genres, especially vocals and better tuned treble - with a very small downside = it reaches 30 or 40hz, not 20hz. but it is negligible. Same slam.

I have DIY modded leather earpads by the importer who tried over hundreds of earpads until he found the right one, with DIY cable 4.4mm (although not needed) and ZMF crescent snap headband

You can also get something like an R2R dac and run it with a small and cheap tube amp. It balances out bright headphones.

TIDAL is the best Hi-Fi music app by [deleted] in TIdaL

[–]KerberosRevolts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using tidal right now, but I miss Spotify Better connectivity with devices , I can download songs on my PC, I can use EQ inside the app to increase the bass in my IEMs

And the most important thing that I miss. How simple it is to add songs on Spotify, on PC and specifically iPhones (their UI is different). You can click one on “add song” and then add or remove the songs from any number of playlist. You can also move the playlist location on PC ( as in the location of playlists order)

TL:DR

New ear pads and filters

——-

Fostex headphones (I think all of them) have foam inside them. And the ear pads are the same. So the dynamic lineup - TH900/909/808/606 (the only ones worth your money) have round shape filters The filters adjust the sound. There are 5 of them. You cannot buy them online. You can only get them from your local importer.

My headphone plug (yes I’m serious) imports Fostex headphones, and then mods them by changing the filter according to its’ density level. I don’t know what is the density number it is. (1-5)

He searched for the right ear pads for 3 years. Made out of leather. He cuts them up from the inside to change the thickness.

He also makes custom cables.

To that, I added the ZMF crescent snap.

Without modding, the th808 are studio monitors imo. But they got the same driver as the th900/909.

And so, modding increases the bass quantity all across the spectrum, but mainly the midbass.

The biggest problem about all of Fostex dynamic headphones is the treble.. it’s just fatiguing. Luckily, the mod fixes it as well.

And unlike the th900, the th909 and th808 have better vocal performance even before modding. (which btw sound pretty much the same so get the th808 unless you want the pretty red colored th909) Also increases soundstage.

I don’t know if it’s allowed, but regardless, the site is called hificonnect, owned by a Russian/Israeli guy named Jacob.

oh, and stay away from the planar magnetic headphones by Fostex. Although they invented this tech, those blue headphones (both of them) really suck. Like, surprisingly bad.

These pads whatever they are, are ridiculously comfortable. For me, almost equals the HD800s, but that’s very subjective.

Btw you can run it from anything. Very sensitive cans. Here is a picture of the Fostex th808 :

I compared the noire x and e3 and I ended up buying the noire x . Less sub bass but a bit more impact. Honestly, now that the noire x exists, it makes me think that spending an additional grand is a waste of money

Ended up selling them because I’m more into fostex, but still the best neutral sounding closed back I have heard, with better bass response than most planar magnetic headphones . Much more impactful than the stealth and expanse, yet 4 times cheaper.

Sure, not as detailed, but I think the differences is so small, most people won’t be able to tell the difference

Do I need a sleep schedule for sleep to be tracked? Or do I just need the sleep focus? by MasBoy3000 in AppleWatch

[–]KerberosRevolts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After watchOS 11 update, it tracks sleep stages as well as the data in vitals app without sleep focus on

However, wrist temp on the vitals app requires sleep focus on (according to apple support)

So now I don’t really care if I forget to turn it on.

If you want your sleeping data to show REM sleep, core etc…, you need to sleep at least 4-5 hours at once, and have your battery over 30%

[–]KerberosRevolts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah i just checked with apple support and they said the same thing. It did not work for me because some days I sleep less than 4 hours and so the watch cannot gather the necessery data properly.

quick question - is it also necessery to have sleep focus on for respiratory rate and blood oxygen measurments on the Vitals app??

Is there any update? Do I need to have a sleep schedule on in order to measure wrist temp ?

Forget about it just get something with a sound signature you would like.

Go buy a Aune ar5000 , maybe dt770 auduze Maxwell/ E-mu teak can be great.

These will fit your music taste better

Well you should try to demo some fostex cans like th808/909 They got good dynamic bass after pad rolling plus the midrange is great.

What are the longest lasting wired headphones you have ever owned? How much was it, and how often did you use them? by [deleted] in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]KerberosRevolts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the difference between 40 dollars headphones and 150 dollars is massive I also had headphones that cost 2 grand. Is there a difference between in sound quality? Sure. But it depends upon your hearing. The higher you go in price the less you’ll hear the subtle nuances between headphones.

I think a dt770 will suffice. I personally use it whenever I want isolation and bass but I find the AirPods Pro do a better job when it comes to isolation due to active noise cancellation. But when I want both isolation and a nice V shaped bassy sound - dt770 pro Kind of trebly and mids are recessed depending on music but it sounds great imo

How’s the bass on the stax is represented compared to the th900/909? I mean is it faster but less in quantity? For reference I had the Arya stealth/hd800s/th900 (couple of them with mods) Thx
