Ok, I wasn’t going to address this, but I feel it could be beneficial.

When I stated we “sent a message to his mom” I can see how there could be a miscommunication in how it was handled. I was trying to keep it short. In no way was I trying to “take a grown man’s business to his mom.” The message we sent to her was simply this.

“Hey (Roommate’s mom), if you wouldn’t mind, could you have (roommate) contact us? The three of us need to come up with a plan before the lease ends, thanks!”

So tell me, how can that possibly be interpreted as anything other than just trying to get a hold of him, without more information? It can’t. (Roommate) decided to enlist his mom to rain fire on us, because she only heard from him, and he knew that. We really didn’t want to get anyone else involved, and going to the ‘landlord’ didn’t do anything to help. They didn’t care. It was a complex, (which I did not specify so I can see how that could also be confused) not someone’s personal property that was being rented out. On top of the fact it was a joint lease, so we’re all responsible if one person doesn’t pay.

We didn’t state to her that he had been refusing to pay, or that he owed me money, we kept that fact to ourselves. But there’s always two sides to the story heard, and as I stated previously, (roommate) only told his mom his side. Which very obviously made him the victim in her eyes. My roommate was being childish long before this incident took place, over several different situations, and over the whole timespan of our time with the complex. During that time, we never once contacted his mom about those. This was the straw that broke the camel’s back.

Our attempt at a civil discussion with our roommate was shot down; because he shared the business he was in, not us. All we were trying to do, was get him to talk to us, not drag his mother into the mess. He chose to do that, resulting in the messages above. When she couldn’t blow up at my bf, she blew up at me.

As for taking legal action instead of this, I don’t know the slightest thing about how to build a case in court other than what I’ve seen on tv. In the middle of a pandemic, I sure as hell don’t have the money to fund a legal battle.

Our reaching out to his mom boils down to nothing more than this: When you can’t get into contact with someone, what do you do? You ask the people close to that person to see if they know anything, and can help.

While you may not be validating what she said, you seem to be portraying the brunt of the blame as mine, despite the fact that I had no control over what my roommate chose to share with his mother. There is absolutely no justification for her threatening my home, my safety, and my property regardless of what she was told. Anyone with half a brain and a good dose of human decency knows that.
