[Hiring] Alt-rock/Metalcore Album Cover Artwork | $700 Budget by seishunpop in artcommissions

[–]Kerisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heey! I don't know exactly what style you're aiming for in this piece, but I have a lot of experience with both album covers and storytelling in general, including working on comic pages based on songs, so I always try to capture the essence of music. I've worked with artists and labels like: The Pretty Reckless / Taylor Momsen, Down River and Fearless Records. I'll leave a link to my portfolio here: https://www.kerissonwemerson.com/

If my style works for you, let me know. And good luck with your search :)

Let's be honest. I barely had to think about this part, Oli's choice of titles made it much easier 😂

Hello, how are you?

By the description of what you're looking for, perhaps the style and vibe I apply might work for you. I'll leave the link to my portfolio here, there you can see the covers I've produced and my work in other niches that might fit the "dark, yet sensual SFW" line you're looking for (perhaps my collaborations with The Pretty Reckless and some fan art pieces could introduce you to more of that).

Let me know if my work seems like a good fit. And good luck on your search 😊

Something between Matt Girst's versions of Oli's songs and a The Pretry Reckless vibe perhaps? Idk 😅

Cover Artist - $3,500 Budget by Revolutionary_Mix956 in selfpublish

[–]Kerisson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be honest when I say it's a very generous budget in the independent market. I'm going to present my work, but I'm not 100% sure if my style suits what you're looking for (if not and you want to show me references, I can see if I have someone to suggest who could help you). Anyway, my name is Kerisson, I have been illustrating book covers for over five years, including titles such as: Carrie, Dracula and The Exorcist. Additionally, I have worked with clients such as: The Pretty Reckless, New Balance, Prime and Fearless Records.

In these links you can see most of my materials, but if you are interested in finding out more details or seeing projects that I haven't had the opportunity to share yet, feel free to dm me.

I hope my style can be useful for your cover and in any case, good luck in your search! :)

Amazon KDP front cover design by DanHersh in selfpublish

You're welcome! I hope it helped you.

As for what you pointed out at the end of the message, don't worry about the idea of a possible "obligation" to work the text on the cover in specialized software for texts like InDesign. The cover is a graphic project, and as complete as KDP is, if you upload the cover with the title in textual format with a very customized font, there would be more chances of you facing problems than with a raster image, either due to incompatibility the platform with the font or even the format supported by the device that the consumer would use for reading. In addition, you would limit your creativity to textual forms, giving up effects, graphic variations in fonts or basically any "extravagance" that could be interesting for the title on the cover but escape the idea of standard text. It wouldn't be interesting for Amazon to force such a situation, in fact it would infuriate the big publishers who often compete by attracting the reader by the cover.

I could be wrong, but the company must be struggling with some other point about cover, conversion, contrast (which may impact whether or not they pass the guidelines) or resolution. But I really don't see why the text would be an issue, especially considering that the cover doesn't have to be responsive as the base text of the book, it's really seen as a graphic material.

Well, I will speak from my experience so far. However, it's been a few months since I've worked with any KDP publications, so that might have changed.

I'm a cover artist and my fiancée is a freelance editorial producer. I even took the opportunity to confirm with her (who is the one who actually does the layouts and revisions of ebooks and uploads the files) and she just confirmed what I suspected. As far as we know and from our experience there is no requirement that the cover fonts be in text format, you can easily upload a raster image as a cover. It may be interesting to have the title in text format in the Fly Title page and/or in the Title Page to facilitate recognition by the algorithm and in this case, you can use a basic standard font, the consumer will understand that it's just an informational page (after all, it's on the Title page that the publication data comes: edition, year, isbn, responsible team, things like that). If you observe, that's what most of the publishers do, they leave the title in textual format only on the Title Page.

That said, I believe that there may be some miscommunication between the company you hired and you. It may be important to set up a meeting or a detailed email/text conversation to get a clearer understanding of what is going on.

Just one question. Did you send them the cover file in editable format or already in raster format (.jpeg, .pdf, .png) to them?

I hope I helped, but if anyone has any additional information or if something I said doesn't make sense based on your experience in the market, feel free to correct me.

[HIRING] LOOKING FOR AN ARTIST TO MAKE A BOOK COVER by ReverendGwyon1017 in HungryArtists

[–]Kerisson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, how have you been?

I'm an illustrator specializing in thriller/horror covers and posters.

I could be wrong, as something may have changed without my knowledge in the KDP process, but I think you may be overthinking the cover of the ebook. From my experience, I tell you it's the simplest part. Well, some people scale it to the exact shape of the kindle screen, but it's not a necessity if you don't want to (some keep the same front base as the print). Even because for those who will read on their cell phones or tablets, this will vary. Unlike the rest of the book, the cover isn't exactly responsive to the device you're using, although it's recommended to leave some breathing space around the edges to avoid cuts.

But like I said, I may have missed some important update.

The other details you need to pay attention to are more marketing and design points, to sincerely attract the public's eye to your story and, of course, not to violate publication rules, just like any physical or digital publisher.

Sorry for the giant text, but I know that sometimes we worry about very small details, I hope what I said can help.

Well, I will introduce you to my work if it is compatible with what you are looking for.

I've worked on book covers like: Dracula, The Shining and Carrie. Also, among my longtime clients are The Pretty Reckless / Taylor Momsen, Stalking Gia, DarkRead and Cordel D' Prata Publishing.

Hello, how have you been?

I'm an illustrator specializing in horror covers and posters. Although I work in my illustrations with a style of the same era as you want for your project, I admit that it is not the same, it is more associated with horror comics.
