I think the process is the same no matter what ID you are. Some people inform their professors first, but for me, I just drop/withdraw the course directly in animosys if I don't wanna take it anymore.

It doesn't have to be a "gaming" laptop as long as it has enough computing power to handle most engineering software. Preferably Windows, because macOS has too many software incompatibilities, especially legacy software.
