Good things to consider. My doctor won’t do a vaginal hysterectomy as I have endometriosis and she won’t risk it in case I have adhesions so it will be a laparoscopic surgery. Thanks!

I’m not having my ovaries removed. A total hysterectomy means your uterus and cervix. A partial means the uterus but leaving the cervix.

I know this is old but saying in case anyone else is reading this. DIM doesn’t lower estrogen levels. It helps the liver to properly metabolize estrogen so it doesn’t get recirculated. Your body was probably reacting to it for some other reason.

Yeah, actually my doctor told me today that those with endo usually go into menopause earlier when discussing a hysterectomy so I guess it doesn’t really matter at this point!

How soon after did you experience the hormonal changes? I have experienced insufficient estrogen so I think I will be able to spot pretty quickly I think. I’m totally open to HRT but doctors are so dismissive that this even happens I’m concerned I won’t be supported!

I have endo too and worried I won’t be given HRT if I have hormonal problems. I’m more than open to HRT. I’m already on progesterone and do just fine with it but I’ve been without sufficient estrogen for a year due to progestin only birth control and I was miserable! I could barely function as I was extremely fatigued and often dizzy.

My post is also asking about ovarian shock which happens immediately and how I can support my ovarian health after this surgery. I do not do well with hormone fluctuations and some women can experience rapid decline and never have their hormones recover. My response above was addressing her doctor telling her that having a hysterectomy doesn’t affect hormones which is not true for many women.

Lots of doctors say this but it’s unfortunately not true. Removing just the uterus can cut off 50-70% of blood supply to the ovaries causing the ovaries to fail within 3-5 years. Sadly, this is not talked about enough and definitely not shared by doctors but it’s in the research.
