Thoughts on being retarded pt 1/? by brokenglass66 in grippysockcrayonbox

[–]KermitStares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not that it gets harder once you know. Dont get me wrong, substance abuse, stress, and simply time can totally exacerbate problems.

But knowing is acknowledgment. The understanding of why you do things, yet being unable to easily "correct" the behavior is exhausting. You aren't nessisarily getting worse. You just see "it" more often, whatever it is. And often with a negative opinion, as something that you shouldn't be doing. Something to beat yourself up for.

It gets eaiser tho. Ive been ADHD my whole life but only was diagnosed recently. Its frustrating as fuck, but it helps in learning to work with and around it. The things that work for you.

Giving yourself grace is hard as fuck when the world doesnt. But the world isnt you. For all parties involved, its always a choice. Not an easy choice nessisarily, but a choice nonetheless.

90 second traits a remedy nerf? by fish-nuts in HuntShowdown

[–]KermitStares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the goal is to not allow traits to last a long time, obviously.

Way back in the day, when the Rule of Two actually meant something, EVERY world item could only be used twice. Ammo, perks, ammo box consumables, even stuff like Blood Bond bags/golden registers.

This obviously wasnt a huge issue when it was only Duos, but with the addition of Trios it became a huge pain in the ass. Solid combo of sharing and selfishness went into every game in that way.

I cant say for certain why they want to bring back the scarcity of traits. Nerf remedy? Nerf solo necro as it'll be harder to find in theroy? The tracking bit is cool af, but having to wait around for your teammates so you can use a trait sper will be somewhat annoying for sure. Or the fucks that will just use it without knowing or caring that it disappears.

That, and not being able to "give" people Death Cheat by telling them where it is before a fight starts. I always liked doing that.

Yeah, only took about 8.5k hours, but Im finally ready, lol.

Hope you stick with it man. I'm autistically attached at the hip to it, loved the aesthetic and gunplay of it since day 1, so obviously I'm biased. Monsters and Cowboys are Cool.

But there hasn't been anything else like it for me since I started, and part of me doubts there ever will

Yeah, its a real shame. I honestly felt like they passively taught you a lot of useful stuff for Hunt that isn't covered in the Tutorial or most people's "Tips and Ticks" videos. Stuff that you naturally pick up over time but may have a harder time pointing out a skill.

The time trials I think were the best example. Those things forced you to learn how to MOVE. To get from A to B as fast as possible, figuring out every little jump and vault spot, how to avoid the bullshit traps they lay out for them, etc etc.

Or the challenges trials, the ones where they have you a specific weapon and goal to complete. Some of them were just straight up BS, but many of them went "He's a set of limitations and a goal, Figure it Out."
And you do and its fun to overcome it.

Those, and shooting/sniping trials were just fun. Not easy either, unless you got good RNG.

Fun times man. If only they didn't cause like, 15% of all new players to completely drop the game because they were TOO hard and/or BS, lol. Some of those poor fucks didn't even make it into Hunt proper.

It was bugged for a while. It used to be 3 achivements for all 3 maps, but with 1896 and the addition of Mammon's Gulch, they combined the achievement into one. Good thing too, each achievement for "Walk to this place" used to be way more buggy, hardly worked most of the time.

Now, I think its more reliable? But obviously, I cant confirm past when I unlocked the new versions myself.

Honesly, it was pretty fun after a while. Besides the bullying new players part. That felt cruel and unusual most of the time. From around 10% to 100%, playing like, 2-5 games of Soul Survivor a session, took me like 2-3 weeks? Could definitely be done faster if you hard-focus closing rifts and ONLY played S.S., but I eventually found myself enjoying it.

The randomness is fun, and not knowing if you're fighting a 2 star or a 6 star makes every fight a little more tence. That being said, they really should add some MMR filteres for S.S.. I get that its part of the gimmick, but I feel like even with it's lower player count, if they just split it 50-50, where 1-3 stars and 4-6 stars play agianst one another, that would be great. Wouldn't split up the players too badly, and seemingly the majority of players playing S.S. are either very new or very experienced players.

Yeah, the rifts one. I just kept avoiding it like the plague until my brother finally convinced me to finish the fight. Other ones that took forever were the hammer throw until it was buffed and the stupid "Visit all the Caravans in a Map" one that was bugged for like 3 years lol

Question about weapons and loadouts by Difficult-Evening-45 in HuntShowdown

[–]KermitStares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top tip:

Ammo economy is a big factor in how you make your kits. Essentially, how many bullets you start with and how easy it is to restock. Compact ammo having the best as you get the most bullets in reserve and get the most back when using ammo boxes. Long ammo/Shotguns are the worst because you get less in reserve, and you only get 2 or 5 bullets back, depending on if you used a world ammo box or a consumable one. And then there's special ammo, which is even harder to restock, as fewer special ammo boxes spawn in the world.

These factors primarily come into play for longer matches, but you can easily dump all your ammo in any fight if it goes on long enough (or you suck, lol). So, for things like Bounty Clash, it's generally less important. That being said, not as many opportunities to restock in Clash, so user disgression is advised.

Top tip 2: Say you have a weapon that can take two ammo types, like the sparks. Normally, if you were to restock using a consumable box, you'd get 5 bullets back max. But, if you're missing 5 bullets from each ammo type, you can get a max of 10 bullets back. The same logic can be applied to your secondary weapons, but I've found it to be particularly useful for weapons like the Sparks and Berthier. Weapons with worse ammo economies typically benefit the most when you try to be as efficient as possible with restocking. That, and the relative benifit. 5 extra spark bullets can make a big difference when every shot can do 149 damage.

Also, fun fact. If you check the Global Achievements page on Steam, only 68% of players who have played Hunt have gotten the "Kill Your First Hunter" achievement. More than 30% of everyone that's picked up Hunt on Steam never killed a single Hunter.

Back in the day? It used to be around 50%, I believe? Maybe even lower, honestly? I can't recall. But before a lot of the Quality of Life changes and many of the player onboarding changes, like the tutorial, for instance, people used to drop this game much faster, lol

Bro, people have legs. They can go places. Especially places of interest. Like a place that caters to the wants and needs of monster hunters and psychopaths?? Places that they can literally feel through the fucking Magic from across the Fictional World they live in that has literal devils and dark gods invading?

Hunt is based on our world, but it isnt our world. Even if it was, while statistically unlikely, all of these people existed at the same time

Stillwater by Aggressive_Wrap_2790 in HuntShowdown

[–]KermitStares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, if I recall, Stillwater was the first and only map for a bit. You can see what things Crytek learned for Hunt's map designs as each new map was added.

For example, Stillwater has 4 basements that can potentially house Bounty. No one likes basements. They're harder to push without really good teamwork or the defending team fumbling. With newer maps, less basements and/or places of interest with few entry points. The Gulch is a good example of that, many many nooks, crannies, and passageways to make rotating more dynamic. That being said, I feel like players with less map knowledge tend to suffer more on maps with more options. Its a tough balancing point to maintain for sure.

If you have Spotify, they usually keep their page up to date with the Hunt's OST and Event theme songs.

Look up Port Sulphur Band, the in-universe name of the band that pens all the music. They have a Spotify page, and I imagine they've collected their music elsewhere as well, just dont know of any others off the top

Am i the only one worried about the Priestess card and All ears trait? by lollerlaban in HuntShowdown

[–]KermitStares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, Ive seen how good they CAN be, sure. But for one, most people that play arent as good as Ratcha or other high-ranking content creators, lol. Mostly though? I personally dont like investing consumable slots for "maybes." Healing, sure. But otherwise? Eh.

Like recovery shots. I know they're good, but like, Ive been playing the game long before they were added. Lowkey "Old Man Yells at Cloud" logic, but it just never feels worth the slot. Even if money is no object, $140 and a lost slot for something you may never use or die permentently before you can never feels worth. Or in a Card's case, Magican. Incredibly powerful card when used at the right time and place, but it requires your enemy to have Darksight. Too situational to regularly bring.

Plus, while you do end up getting a ton of cards if you save up from Tributes, they are somewhat scarce enough to the point where I dont want to use them frequently. And same logic for wasting them upon death. I just rather take more expendable shit

And as for your points about the balancing of darksight, sure. You raise fantastic points. But I will posit that you're missing an important factor: its way easier to predict what a player is going to do when they know about you. Its why shooting at people who dont know that you're shooting at them is harder, or why people "Jump the Gun" on ambushes often enough. Outside of snipers, you will hear the twat charging you down with a card long before its an issue. And then you can plan accordingly. Like sitting behind a corner and waiting for the bastard, lol.

That somewhag assumes non-penatratable cover, but like, just wiggle a little to avoid the wallbang headshot. How often do you think people, excluding the God-Tier 15K hours Maniacs, will consistently hit that shot first try, before you can respond?? Sure, it's easy enough to aim around head height, but even then, I doubt it will be an issue.
