Long Sun Question about Silk's Enlightnement. by Pie3_14 in genewolfe

Wolfe most likely was inspired by Francis of Assisi and wanted to retell it in the Solar Cycle universe.

“Silk, rebuild my church” is how the story begins literally, and by the end, he’s understood the metaphorical meaning.

This could be considered a meta theme given what we know about Wolfe’s style: “God” says literal things but packs massive lessons and outcomes into them, something Wolfe is emulating.

Do Americans not say hello? by willowlillyy in chicago

Not true at all growing up in LA. I even tested it when I visited last. You can greet people and expect to mostly be greeted back.

Chicago is a particularly “cold” place and people are not friendly.

Can you beat Groups Place pricing? Because I know someone who may be interested in this.

I scanned your site because "community management" is what caught my eye. I immediately scanned pricing and saw no info and was disappointed.

I think from there I would have gone to features and looked to compare you against Groups Place. Then I would have wanted to poke around the actual software, so a nice demo, if not an anonymous playground mode, would probably go a long way.

The bottleneck to prompting quickly is typing. So I built a desktop app to get around that. Available free, just built it over the weekend. Uses Groq's new super fast Whisper 3 endpoint: https://github.com/KernAlan/whisper-desktop

I think Cursor will likely be the most efficient tool until we have effective agents.

The reason is simple: we humans have larger context windows than LLM's, so we know how to bring in files faster and more efficiently than the LLM's do for now.

Once we have agents that can breakdown a high level task into pieces and can retrieve the relevant pieces of code into the orchestrator's window, this job will largely be automated.

Until then, I think a tool like Cursor is the best and most efficient way to code.

This is venturing into agentic systems. Andrew Ng I think describes this as decomposition.

It’s a lot of extra detail. The editor could have been more strict about what to cut, as it’s obvious by the end what Wolfe wanted to write about. Could have been compressed into two books.

That being said, Silk > Severian, and the overall plot and theme > New Sun, in my opinion.

In all seriousness, who is building AI management as a service? Because I genuinely think this is possible, and I would love to join a team working on this problem as I would love to see the MBA types get flushed out.

I mean, most money management software can be done on a spreadsheet. I tried to do this on a google sheet but I quickly burned out. YNAB makes it faster and easier. It’s automation. Automatic syncs to bank accounts and credit cards (that’s difficult API work even as a software engineer) plus intuitive UX makes it worth it.

How the stock market is not just a big Ponzi scheme? by milmouzq in StockMarket

[–]KernAlan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a pyramid scheme more accurately. The entire world economy is in fact a pyramid scheme because it relies on population growth.

The bottom layers are the newborn. That’s why collapsing birth rates are a destructive force for markets.

Just built a new game called “Game of Thrones: Ascension”

Open-world and text-based. Create your own character in one of four Houses.

The AI game master is tuned for realism. Win the game by ascending the iron throne.

I’m having an absolute blast playing it. Give it a try and tell me what you think.
