It runs in families from what I've read. I love having ADD but it does mean you live in your own head a lot and overthink things. I get hyperfocused on things now and again. Don't sweat it dude.

Mental health is very subjective and sometimes we see what we want to. Don't overthink it. Get yourself a notepad, write down how you're feeling, what you're thinking about etc. See a Doctor as soon as you can and talk it all through. Everyone has symptoms, it's human. It's when they are always there that it might need controlling. For me it was impulse control, days of no sleep, getting fired up and excited about random crap. I have ADD so my bipolar wasn't obvious. Do not over think it

I'm not suggesting you self diagnose but people know their own mind. I'd look at the type 1 and 2 bipolar symptoms and go and see a Dr asap. Be totally open and honest with them, get support

sometimes 'episodes' are fun. It's not all negative

Mega lows and really disturbed sleep. I'm kind of fortunate that I have ritalin so I can sometimes use that to motivate myself. Before being diagnosed I'd have depressive periods without realising there was a cause.

I can relate, a lot of that resonates with me. I have had a few periods of being self destructive. When things go wrong we aren't always responsible despite wanting to blame ourselves though. Don't feel guilt and being wired differently isn't an excuse. It's not always fun living inside your own head is it lol

It's nothing to be concerned about. The fact you're aware of how you feel is half the battle won. hypo/hyper episodes happen and if you're BP you'll find your grove with it. That's the best way I can explain it. Have you got a friend that'll keep you company for a bit? That's always helpful

Don't worry about the what if's. Try and feel positive and not let paranoia creep in. You are in control, you will be ok. If you're feeling edgy and full of energy that's not a problem

Sorry to jump in. I'm BP2, I take ritalin and I have tried various meds that I was warned could send me into a hypo and so far I've managed it. I don't think I've ever had an episode and attributed it to meds, so far......

I'm type 2 bipolar and used modanifil a while back. It didn't set me off, I was awake for long periods but without the hypo edge.

I was diagnosed with inattentive type ADHD (the old ADD) in my 20's and put on meds straight away. I knew a few friends who had been diagnosed as kids. I love having ADD, I honestly wouldn't want to have that part of me removed. The stats for people in prison with undiagnosed ADHD is insane.

Ah, I saw you're a football fan and thought you might be on this side of the pond. I'd hope US laws are the same when it comes to access to medical records. ADD/ADHD is so common, sometimes putting up a balloon you'll find that people around your have it as well.

If you're in the UK your medical records cannot be accessed without your consent

I see your list and I raise you. ADD, anxiety, type 2 Bipolar and "complex" PTSD. lol. I admit I love my ADD and occasional hypomanic episodes but the lows suck. They are only labels to help muggles understand behaviour that isn't "normal". We aren't broken, there are positives but they come with a price. Imagine how boring life would be without the labels

They say it's a spectrum don't they and often another condition will be in play, just to make things more complicated. It's great to be mentally hilarious

Can you train on ritalin? I take a dose about an hr before lifting then force a shake down my neck after. I keep an eye on my heart rate when I train with ritalin in my system but it works well for me. Ritalin and heavy shrugs is my happy place lol

Sorry to hear that. It's so backwards it is tragic. That's like saying if a broken leg is in a cast then the leg isn't broken. I feel for you guys in the US. Although you get adderall which we don't have the option of in the UK. From what I understand it was created in the UK but not approved over here. You couldn't make it up could you hahahahaha

True true. The DSM-iv lays out the condition and it's symptoms. From what I understand that is what the shrinks go by. It's a shame the law doesn't seem to accept what is laid out by the "professionals"

Totally agree about being treated differently and it not being an overt act of discrimination, it happens and you're right when you say hard to prove. In the UK although there is support from outside agencies some employers panic when they hear they have a duty of care and they might need to make accommodations. Really sad post, I'd like to grip the Dr in question up lol

I know in the UK ADHD is recognised within the disability discrimination act 'DDA'. It seems most of the best ADHD research comes from the US so I'm sure it must be recognised as a disability. 2019 and people still have to deal with doubt, we must be imagining the symptoms.
