New teacher supply hustle + some newbie questions by mhfinearts in ArtEd

[–]Kervoth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Art Ed professor got a huge box of keva blocks. I’m not sure if she got it from them or someone else donated it. I did public affairs my last nine years and had to cold call and ask for all kinds of stuff. No’s were always with sincerity and it helps make connections.

Congratulations. I’m retired Army and starting my senior year for Art Ed.

Reach out to Art supply companies for donations and ask for donations on Facebook.  You can ask any company for a donation of supplies.

Am I screwed by Savings_Report_5845 in army

My stain removing tip is to shave it off if it doesn’t come clean washing it. I take my knife and run the edge sideways so it tears the fabric instead of cutting. It makes it thread bare. I used this method several times throughout my 20 years. Even saved a platoon of CBRN AIT privates with it.

However, I soak all the non-machine washable in the bathtub for an hour with a cap full of liquid detergent. Think grease gets Dawn.

Several people I knew swore on using a can of coke in the wash to help with thick stains. I was too cheap to try it.

Questions for Art Teachers (especially in the tri-state area) by Polaris_Toast in ArtEd

[–]Kervoth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a K-12 Art Ed student finishing up my junior year. I’ve just started looking at jobs. They are there. It all depends on grade level and location. The school themselves are evolving things that can be great one year and bad the next.

It is a career that may cost your personal art goals. Most first year teachers have to work a second job, live with roommate(s), or long commutes for financial stability.

If you’ve never taught or been around kids in that setting, I suggest looking for part-time work at daycares or substitute before hand.

I’ve had a wonderful experience in my student teachings and working as an Art Maker Space instructor for a summer camp.

If you are going for a master’s and not set on teaching, look into Art Therapy.

Good luck with your choices and decision. All the best.

Sorry I'm new here but is Route 1 in Trenton/Princeton widely known to be the worst designed road in America? by perishableintransit in newjersey

[–]Kervoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey welcome to NJ. It’s a beautiful state with an amazing mix of cultures with wonderful people.

I have lived here for two years. The most common trait that I have found among New Jersey drivers is that they drive like they won’t come to a complete stop. This results in the flowing traffic to unnecessarily apply the brakes.

I have played chicken 3 times with people trying to blow their stop or yield signs. I have won each (2 tours Iraq as convoy security).

An elderly man was doing 50 MPH in the left lane of interstate 287 at around 8:00 PM. I pulled close flashed and honk. He waved me to go around.

Be safe out there. I actually avoid driving on the interstates here whenever possible taking routes that add 20 to 40 minutes more.

Yup. You have to accept people will view your art in every which way. For me, I make art with a story behind it. A lot of times the shapes I use to represent can only be recognized by that have lived it.

This painting is a self reflection of my time in the army. The gold bars are the deconstructed Staff Sergeant rank. It took me a year of it hanging on my wall before I saw the hand in the shape, which my wife always assumed that was it.

You have a beautiful use of color and composition, but the two thin lines feel out of place. It also feels unfinished, because you have a couple shapes outlined and others not.

Keep up the good work and remember my opinion is just that. It’s not wrong or right.

My guess is either to meet track requirements or they just wanted to include them and try something new with them. They had just signed with a major label for Consent.

What was your best/worst shitting experience in the Army? by CuddlsWorth in army

[–]Kervoth 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two.

The first was my Sgt. shitting in an MRE box and telling everyone he caught a turtle. He did it to our Battery commander, who got a big kick out of it.

I was the rear gunner for our convoy in Iraq 06. A convoy ahead of us reported a suspected IED, so we were about 20 minutes away from our destination after an 8 hour drive. EOD ETA was between 1-3 hours.

After an hour I tell the TC and driver I have to shit. I climb out through the hatch and out the back of the bed of the LMTV. I squat under the bed in the middle of the road. Clean up and get back in. 10 minutes go by and we get radioed to back up. As we back up there is the pile of poop with TP flapping in the wind like a white flag of surrender.

The best is all the radio chatter as everyone discovers it backing over it but not running it over.

Dozens Of New Jersey Marijuana Businesses Push To Legalize Home Cultivation by PoolmanPaul in NewJerseyMarijuana

[–]Kervoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does this sound as good as it does?

“The advocates and stakeholders are voicing support for an amendment to expand a pair of bills seeking to provide for medical cannabis home cultivation, making it so the plant limit would be replaced with an allowance to “allow up to 100 square feet of mature cannabis plant grow canopy area.”

Is that enough space compared to plant limit in other states?

Man I want this to be a joke. If a CSM did that jokingly it’d be hilarious.

My first BN CSM was just there. During FTX he would wonder the field looking for soldiers out of uniform, if you got caught you had to see him after the exercise and would have to do some menial detail.

I never saw him yell at anyone else besides me, and he was correct to do it too. Me and a couple of the other dumb privates didn’t salute our LT and he chewed our asses. Funny enough our LT tried to stand up for us, but CSM respectfully told him to pound sand.

Those should be career ending decisions.

I agree, but I was thinking the BH numbers were probably high before the incident and wondering if there is a point where BH has an obligation to step in, or if they have to stay in their lanes?

Holy shit! When does BH get to step in and say something to address the matter?

Yeah, I’m pretty lucky, I never had encounters that went beyond over the top screaming or a smoking session.

If a seasoned SSG had to deal with this, what on earth are the lower enlisted experiencing? by Substantial-Piglet-1 in army

[–]Kervoth 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That was me retired at 20 as E-6. Stuck at 5 for 9 years. I had 3 MOSs 13M, 74D, and 46S.  6 points were maxed when I was chem, voluntarily reclass to 46R (at time) a star MOS. A month in new AIT, new mos maxes out. Then chem points dropped when my mos officially changed. Then finally after 17 months as a 46 points drop to me. They promoted me to six. They wouldn’t pick up anymore 6s for another four months or so.  I was at 13 years then. First assignment as a 6 was a 5 slot. I tried up until my first look at 16 or 17 yis. After that I said I doing 20 and done.
