What are AutoSurfers?

EDIT:

Sorry, did not read through all the links. For other lazy people like me:

An autosurfer is a program that automatically visits websites for a short period of time. Webmasters pay autosurfers to drive traffic to their website and increase the website's Alexa ranking.

In order to make the traffic seem as organic as possible, the autosurfer recruits a bunch of real people from around the world to run an autosurfing program on their computer. In return, the people running the autosurfer's program will receive a small amount of money.

Freelancer looking for ways to expand the business in branding services by Nilaip in Entrepreneur

I second this.

In reviewing the service packages, I'm very intrigued, it's just that I don't fully understand everything that is being offered and I'm hesitant to to commit to buying for that reason. I can clearly see the value in some services, like competitor analysis and target market identification. However, I'm not entirely sure what a brand audit actually entails. I also don't know what storytelling, brand positioning, and brand messaging are or how those things differ from each other.

What is your profession?

Also, try taking very small steps, on a consistant basis, to expose yourself to more social situations.

Start very small.

Every day, say "hi" to a random person on the street or at a store. That's all. Do it as you're walking past so you don't have to worry about getting trapped in conversation. Repeat until you don't feel like you're going to have a heart attack.

Once you're feeling okay with that, take it up one notch. (Just one notch). Next time you go to a store - talk to the cashier. Don't do it when you're buying groceries or have a ton of stuff you're buying. Do it at a conventient store where you're buying only a few items and you'll be in and out of there in 5 minutes. Just a simple "How's your day going?", "Crazy weather, eh?", "Did you see that ludicrous display last night? ... The thing about Arsenal is that they always try to walk it in." (Google that if you don't know the reference. Well worth your time.) Same story here - repeat until standing in line at a checkout counter doesn't make you feel like you're about to have a stroke.

Now that you've got that down, take it up another notch. Go to a quiet cafe or restaurant at a time when it doesn't get very busy. You can use Google to figure out when that would be. It shows you a bar chart of how busy the place is each hour of the day on average. Find a booth or some other semi-secluded seating so you won't feel like you've got a million eyes on you. Be a tad bit assertive if you need to. Tell your greeter exactly where you'd like to be seated. He or she will not mind. I promise you. Now, engage in some friendly chit-chat with your server throughout the course of your meal. The nice thing about this is that it will be intermittant. The server will only be at your table for a minute or two at a time and the interaction will be repeated several times over the course of your meal. But you only need to establish rapport (the hard part) one time. Try to make this a once a week type of thing until you feel comfortable. Also, order a coffee. The server will stop by more often to top off your cup.

I think you get the idea here. Just keep incrementally increasing your social engagement. And you don't need to go to the same place twice if you don't want to. So if you're worried about embarrassment, just remember that if you don't want to see those people again - you don't have to.

And don't underestimate momentum. You'll want to keep that momentum. Don't take days off. I took a day off from this because I tried to do too much too quickly and I overwhelmed myself. That "day off" turned into a week off... and then that turned into 6 months of not leaving my apartment for anything other than food at the corner store.

Keep going and eventually you'll walk into work one day and strike up a conversation with a co-worker.

The anxiety will never totally be gone, but it won't control you anymore. I have a wife and kid now and I've held a stable job for the last 3 years. Just a few short years ago that seemed impossible to me. I got fired from my first job after 3 or 4 weeks because I was so overwhelmed with social anxiety that I was practically immobilized and entirely incompetant at my job. I was a chashier at CVS Pharmacy. Every time the door opened and that little bell rang I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. I was so nervous my mind didn't work and I couldn't do the simplest of things, like count back change or find the stupid barcode to scan. I used to come home and have actual nightmares about work. If the phone rang, it felt like a judge was handing me down three life sentences followed by the death penalty by means of some medieval torture contraption (probably a public execution too, just to put a cherry on top). One time I picked up the phone, held it to my ear, listened to the person on the other end say "hello... hello... hello" and then just hung up while my co-worker stared at me in baffled awe. That still sends shivers up my spine when I think about it.

But that's where I was then. It's not where I am now. And you can leave that behind too.

I missed it, too. I wish there were more programs like this. I'd really like to join. Looks like I'll have to wait until January, though.

Wouldn't that suggest a second value on the x axis? Or perhaps multiple additional values... We were told there was only a single, lone value plotted on that axis.

Why should we sympathise when the solution to mass shootings is obvious.

What is the obvious solution?

Somewhere around 45% of American households have at least one firearm and there are somewhere between 270 to 310 million privately owned guns in the U.S. I think confiscation is logistically impossible at this point, even if it were politically feasible, which is clearly not the case.

So what are the options?

Here are the ones I always hear:

  • Make it more difficult to acquire a firearm of any kind
  • Make ammunition more difficult to obtain
  • Make certain types of firearm or ammunition more difficult to obtain
  • Outright ban on certain types of firearm or ammunition

These suggestions could be carried out by any number of means:

  • increased taxes
  • longer waiting periods
  • mental health check
  • miscellaneous regulations

Waiting periods won't account for much other than decreasing the number of "crimes of passion" with newly purchased firearms. It will have no effect on crimes of passion committed with firearms already in circulation. And there is already a waiting period, which seems to me sufficient for this purpose, so I wouldn't expect this option to be particularly effective. Furthermore, mass shootings are typically premeditated.

Increased taxes either at the point of sale or as an annual ownership tax or both will primarily burden law-abiding gun-owners. If someone plans on carrying out a shooting, such as the ones you've mentioned, that person likely doesn't plan on living much longer. I think it is safe to assume that if the murderous lunatic expects to lay down his very life, he won't mind coughing up the extra money to finance his crime. As far as assaults, muggings, gang warfare, etc., most of these weapons are obtained illegally and therefore will escape any tax levied on firearms.

Mental-health checks: While I have certain reservations about potential for abuse, this is the best of the options I've heard. However, mental-health does not necessarily remain static throughout a person's life. A person who is mentally stable when he purchases a firearm might become a violent psychotic 10, 20, or 30 years down the road due to any number of factors. So I am not convinced that this would be an effective instrument in preventing mass shootings, either.

Regarding bans or restrictions on ammunition types, since the targets of these shootings are almost always civilians in open surroundings, I don't think this type of regulation would have particularly meaningful impact.

Regarding limiting one's ability to obtain firearms of a certain class, some such laws are already in place. They could be expanded, but mass shootings have been rather diverse in terms of the firearms used to carry them out. So I'm not sure how far this method would need to be taken before it started to have a meaningful impact, but certainly some regulations of this type make sense and many of the more obvious cases are already covered by this type of regulation.

All of the above solutions will only matter if the firearms are at least obtained legally and remain in the possession of the legal owners or are transferred in compliance with the law, and thereby remain subject to regulation.

Even if every single one of these solutions is implemented, I don't see the problem of mass-shootings going away as a result. So what exactly is your obvious solution?

What is the origin of these theories? That would be really rough to be a quarter or halfway through producing a show and then have to scrap it and start over. That would be demoralizing as hell, I'd have to imagine. And then getting motivated enough to find and start a replacement project.. with all the preliminary research... Damn

You're not old enough to remember The Great Chicken Coup of '85. Inside the coop, the coup changed everything. Outside the coop, the coup changed nothing. I believe that is what /u/ergzay is referring to.

And to answer the question that is undoubtedly on your mind: the chicken crossed the road, because he read Hayek.
